SUMMARY

1:57 - Why upgrade from points?
If your using points these days, you are limiting yourself as RPM climbs the time the points give the coil to do its job reduces.
5:00 - Stage 1 upgrade
This is what I would consider the bare bones minimum upgrade from a points distributor. I recommend swapping to electronic points, remove the ballast resistor and a 12V ignition coil. Some options below:

An ECU is required to control the spark. Typically the inputs required are RPM and a measure of engine load eg. MAP or TPS. There is a variety of options ranging from very budget DIY units through to professional units. Be sure to consider tuning when selecting an ECU.

22:16 - [BONUS] low vacuum carb mech advance option
Triple carbs do not always provide sufficient vacuum for the vacuum advance to function. Without vacuum advance there is two things you can do:
1. Set your initial advance higher to compensate for the loss of vacuum advance so that your peak advance is where it needs to be.
2. Swap out the advance plate for a different model that allows for more mechanical advance or modify your current plate so that you do not need a high initial advance but still achieve your peak advance.
3. Find a specialist to recurve your distributor.
