I’m returning to the song after a few years of turmoil, grief, growth and now liberation. Used to listen to this song to not feel so alone in my self sabotage and trauma. The lyrics “if you’re still breathing, you’re the lucky ones, ‘cause most of us are breathing through corrupted lungs,” used to resonate bc I felt as though every day it was hard to breathe, hard to live, but now, I am on the other side of the lyrics and have found happiness…but only after bleeding. It was worth it. I’m still here. I’m alive, I’m free, and I’m definitely one of the lucky ones.

All 3 of my roommates I was locked down for COVID with died within 14 months of each other. One was my best friend, one was my lover and one became my fiancee... This song means something so different than it did when I first heard it years ago. Seen a lot of comments mentioning not wanting to grow up/ being scared of the responsibility of being an adult....as a 21 yr old that had the same thoughts 5 years ago... I promise it's not as bad as it looks. It's rough I won't lie to you... but there's still so much good that outweighs the bad. Just take in the little things. Make memories. Trust that you will find your place in this world. And don't be afraid to stay young at heart and have a wild spirit... being an "adult" doesn't mean instantly becoming boring, responsible, and independent. You don't have to have your whole life planned the moment you turn 18 or even 21. My 45-year-old parents told me they still don't know what they want to be when they "grow up" and they have good jobs and all kids out of the house. Even "adults" don't have it all figured out. We're all just learning. It's just another door you walk through in life at your own pace. Never take a single moment for granted. God bless your beautiful souls.
