The two people Dave mentions at the end are Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones, they were attending a university prisoner rehabilitation event when they were stabbed to death on December of 2019 during the London Bridge attacks. Dave praised Jack for his dedication to prison reform. He also mentioned the Grenfell Tower fire and the Windrush generation, which is very interesting and worth looking it up. And if you want to continue on the theme, i would recommend "Rapsody - Nina", it's mad underrated. Short and powerfull, always gives me chills :)

Dave released this song originally in his Psychodrama album but the original song only contained the first two verses, the third verse was totally unexpected and first heard in this performance. The two people he mentions are Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones, were Cambridge University students who dedicated themselves to prison reform and rehabilitation. They were both course co-ordinators of a learning together scheme which brought people in higher education and offenders to 'learn together'. They were both attending a 'Learning Together' event where Usman Khan entered with a fake suicide vest, threatened to detonate it and then knifed several people. Jack Merritt and Dave knew each other because Dave's older brother, Christopher, was undergoing prisoner rehabilitation after being involved in the 2010 murder of Soften Belamouadden. Dave also refers to Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle of the British Royal Family, and how differently Meghan was treated in the media, in comparison to Kate, with Meghan being the first mixed race member of a Royal Family that presided over centuries of colonialism and slavery. The Grenfell Tower was an incident in 2017 where a tower block in West London broke out and killed 72 people. This happened because safety standards were skimped on so companies could save around £13,000 on safety cladding. The tower was located in a conservative (right-wing) council also house some of the most expensive housing. The council were accused of neglecting the minority-ethnic poorer residents. The hundreds of victims who lost their houses were not given long-term accommodation, and this incident has been used to highlight the neglect and inequality that is prevalent in the UK. The Windrush scandal was when many Caribbean people boarded ships that were set for Britain (the Caribbean was part of the Commonwealth) between 1948-1973. When they arrived, they were given British Citizenship and were free to permanently work and live in the UK. However, in 2012, UK government and non-gov sectors were tasked with ramping up the enforcement of Immigration controls. This 'Hostile Environment' legislation that was announced by the Government in 2012, made the UK unlivable for those without proper documentation. Many of the commonwealth citizens that arrived between 1948-1973 came on their parents passports and weren't given proper documentation, despite being given the right to live and work in the UK permanently. This lead to many Commonwealth citizens, who would've grown up in the UK for several decades, to be falsely deemed as 'Illegal Immigrants'' and the government restricted their access to housing, healthcare, bank accounts and driving licenses. This caused widespread condemnation for the Government and the Home Office. Victims of this scandal were promised compensation however, after three years, the Government compensation scheme has only made a handful of payments. However, this 'Hostile Environment' legislation that caused this scandal is still in place in 2020, even during the COVID-19 crisis. Independent reports have found that the Windrush scandal was not an accident, but the inevitable result of policies designed to make life impossible for those without the right papers. At the start of the third verse, Dave also described the PM, Boris Johnson as racist. This due to Boris Johnson writing columns for the Daily Telegraph in the 2000's, where he made many racist, homophobic, Islamophobic and sexist comments. Some comments include, and are not limited to: In a 2018 column for The Daily Telegraph relating to a burqa ban, he wrote that was "absolutely ridiculous" that "people should choose to go around looking like letter boxes" and that "If a constituent came to my MP’s surgery with her face obscured, I should feel fully entitled… to ask her to remove it so that I could talk to her properly. If a female student turned up at school or at a university lecture looking like a bank robber then ditto: those in authority should be allowed to converse openly with those that they are being asked to instruct." When he found out that 68% of Malaysian women are attending University, he stated "[Female students went to university because they] have got to find men to marry. " "It is said that the Queen has come to love the Commonwealth, partly because it supplies her with regular cheering crowds of flag-waving piccaninnies. " The word "Piccaninnies" is an extremely derogatory term. "No doubt the AK47s will fall silent, and the pangas will stop their hacking of human flesh, and the tribal warriors will all break out in watermelon smiles to see the big white chief touch down in his big white British taxpayer-funded bird. " He wrote this when Tony Blair, the then UK PM, visited the Democratic Republic of Congo, describing men of the DRC as having "watermelon smiles", when asked about this in his 2019 election campaign, he dismissed it as "satire", which it obviously isn't. ((Regaring Barack Obama)) "The part-Kenyan president [has an] ancestral dislike of the British empire - of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender. " The only evidence for this statement was the colour of Obama's skin. Using the word Nigerian as an insult, which racism was a by-product of offending young people "All the young people I know - ie those under 30 - are just as avaricious as we flinty Thatcherite yuppies of the 1980s in fact, they have an almost Nigerian interest in money and gadgets of all kinds. " Here, he is wanting to bring back colonisation of the whole of Africa, which was responsible for slavery "The best fate for Africa would be if the old colonial powers, or their citizens, scrambled once again in her direction; on the understanding that this time they will not be asked to feel guilty. " In 2000, Johnson said that a "bunch of black kids" made him “turn a hair”, and added: "If that is racial prejudice, then I am guilty." The outstanding thing though is that he, a blatant racist, was elected as Mayor of London (London being an extremely diverse city of the UK), Foreign Secretary (being responsible for UK foreign affairs, even though he is pro-colonialism) and is now the most powerful person in the UK, despite being a racist, islamophobic, sexist, pro-colonisation leader, which is all fact and quoted.

I've recently been going into a lot of American reactions to this track, and I've got used to many people trying to explain and give perspective to that last verse to an American audience. This is hands down the best I've seen fam. Touches everything important and then goes deep on Boris. Nuff respect.

I was so impressed by your take on Daves Black. It caused a shit storm because the Brits is our version of the Grammies. I wish you could have watched it from start to finish. I stood up in my living room and cheered. There's a link about Jack Merrit, he was a London stabbing victim. The Grenville accommodation was about the Tower block that caught fire and there is a link to Wikipedia about it. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I have been following the catastrophic goings on over in your world and I feel connected somehow. I have been a major fan of the history and culture of the US all of my working life (a long one). I watched as George Floyd's breath went and something hit me about the 8 minutes and 46 seconds because it was something I heard before but I couldn't place it, then I remembered. On the news in New York there was an announcement " 8:46 am a passenger plane has struck one of the 2 towers of the world trade centre" that was another day I will never forget. I apologise apologise for rambling on but I am saddened by the whole situation and tend to get carried away by it all. Hope you watch more British video and more of Dave he is on sick rapper. Stay safe. To do with Jack and Saskia they were criminology students who were killed in a terrorist attack in London. But jack was also helping Daves brother with a case against him. He wanted to help people with things such as rehabilitation etc instead of just long sentences for their crimes if not too severe. Then The Grenfell was a apartment/flats building that wasn’t cladded properly and a fire burned the building severely and lots of people died. If you search it up there is more around it to understand.

Btw the part at the end is a freestyle, and the part where he says about how the news treats Kate vs how they treat Meghan is about the royal family as Kate is white and the news loves her, but Meghan is African American and the news belittles her as much as they could and always brought her race into each new title.

Thank you so much for doing this one in not sure if Dave the British rapper does grime or drill but the song was deep . Also on Grenfell tower it's about a flat or apartment that caught fire in London and burnt down to the ground there was mainly minority groups that lived in it and the government did not care at all our last and current governments are racists and do not care about minorities at all so many people lost family and friends

man I've watched a lot of reactions to this but yours tops the lot, loved it .. other people have explained the references of the extra verse he added so won't go in to that, but thanks for doing this .. only line I think you missed out on other than the strictly UK references is "equality is a right it doesn't deserve credit" .. think about it

So a little context from the UK for American listeners: 1. 'how the news treated Kate vs how they treated Meghan' - this refers to how the press have always glamorised Kate (Prince William's white wife), whereas Meghan, Prince Harry's wife who they have attacked and persecuted in the media. 2. 'Jack Merritt' - I was less than 100m away from this when it happened - in November 2019 there was a terrorist attack on London Bridge. Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones were at a conference to talk about and help the rehabilitation of offenders. They were ultimately murdered by one of the courses' attendees, Usman Khan, who was out of prison on licence, and had received special permission to travel to London for the day to take part in workshops. Jack Merritt had also worked with Dave's (Dave the singer in this video) brother who is in prison. 3. 'Grenfell victims still need accommodation' - in 2017 a tower block fire killed over 70 people who were mostly from ethnic minorities. They had put cladding on the outer side of a 'council owned flat' to make it look better to residents nearby. The material they chose was cheaper and highly flammable. Almost 100 people were killed and most victims are still to receive accommodation in 2020, over 3 years after the devastating fire. 4. 'we still need support for the Windrush generation' - The 'Windrush generation' happened between 1948 and 1970, where nearly half a million people moved from the Caribbean to Britain, which in 1948 faced severe labour shortages in the wake of the Second World War. These people were INVITED here to make up for the labour shortages, and as they were brought here legally, they weren't given documentation. And now, these people are being treated as illegal immigrants. I'm white British and this performance gives me goosebumps every time. If it doesn't have the same effect on you, I think you're part of the problem. Also - when he talks about our Prime Minister as being a 'real racist' - all you need to do is google 'boris johnson racist comments'
