Dave is funny but historically incorrect. The first cowboys were Mexicans known as vaqueros from the Spanish word 'vaca' meaning cow. Early English speaking settlers adopted the vaquero way of life and eventually intertwined their own cultural aspects in to the trade. Blacks were actually the last culture to get in on being cowboys.
