I mean, she was six. "In January 2001, when he was 14, Tate was convicted of first-degree murder for the 1999 battering death of six-year-old Tiffany Eunick in Broward County, Florida." "Tate was left alone with Eunick, who was being babysat by Tate's mother, Kathleen Grossett-Tate. While the children were downstairs playing, Tate's mother called to them to be quiet. Tate came up 45 minutes later to say that Eunick was not breathing. He said that while they were wrestling, he had her in a headlock and the child's head hit a table. Only Eunick and Grossete-Tate were present when this occurred." EDIT: And then I read about the injuries. It's literally everytime with you people. "Tate was convicted of killing Eunick by stomping on her so forcefully that her liver was lacerated. Her legs, feet, and neck all had serious bruises; an example of the amount of force used on her was similar to bruises from that of a speeding car.[4] Her other injuries included a fractured skull, fractured rib, and swollen brain. These injuries were characterized by the prosecution as "similar to those she would have sustained by falling from a three-story building."[5] In sentencing Tate to life imprisonment, Judge Joel T. Lazarus of Broward County Circuit Court said that "The acts of Lionel Tate were not the playful acts of a child [...] The acts of Lionel Tate were cold, callous and indescribably cruel." Practicing wrestling. "100% true." Fuck.

@tyroneloki5131
@tyroneloki5131 3 жыл бұрын
What racial inequality are you talking about? About the 7 year old girls that was not a national story? Or the black 15 year old who brutally beat a 7 year old kid. Fact it was no "he accidentally killed a kid while practicing a wrestling move"....the playmate was brutally beaten and he showed no remorse...read and see the case file, then you will understand why they gave him life. Ergo it had nothing to do with the skin color. So put down the Critical race theory book and open your eyes to the reality of the world
@NelleBear
@NelleBear 2 жыл бұрын
So the issue racial inequality can definitely be argued for here.....but Chappelle ignored the main reason why the news kept running the story about Elizabeth Smart....bc she was still missing. The other girl escaped and was safe. The local news wanted to keep reminding the community to keep an eye out for Elizabeth, showing her picture all the time. Plus the fact that her kidnapping was so strange and intriguing; the cops didn't even have a clue on who did it. And it was a wake up call for American parents that anyone's kids could be snatched from their beds, even in a locked house in a nice neighborhood.

@@thezu9250 She was 6....he lacerated her liver, broke a rib and cracked her skull then lied about what happened. Medical examiners are familiar with what is likely to happen by accident. Trust the science, as they say. When I see people pretending like all of the evidence does not point substantially towards his guilt, I know they have some underlying agenda or simply don't know the evidence. Regarding him being tried as an adult, it was almost certainly a result of the heinousness of his crime. That doesn't make it right. I actually happen to agree with Chappelle, we are inconsistent when claiming someone is or isn't an adult and we need to do better. It seems to me that adult changes definition in whatever way suits the state. Lower for the purposes of incarceration and higher outside of that so they have more say-so over your life.

@@thezu9250 It may be true that it was too early to have a sound opinion on the case but the point still is that people react emotionally AND based on race. There is no talk on the media of THIS sort of rampant bias, of course. This bit is from his special "For What It's Worth", filmed in 2004. This is 3 years after the conviction, he had the information available to him. Celebrities are human and dave is running off of emotions and bias on this issue. A boy killed a girl and all he can see is race, so he knows what side is "his". He cares more about black people, which I actually have no issue with. (both those things) Might have had something to do with the fact that Lionel Tate (the black kid's name) was determined to be developmentally challenged and suffering from mental issues. You might want to include that little bit of factoid next time you decide to go on a 'clarification' tour. Oh, and none of this detracts from Dave Chappelle's point that it's morally wrong to lock up a 15 year old child - even for murder - for life. Developmentally challenged or not (worse so if he is).
@aaronhoy3410

Well first of all who is the they you are referring to? So, one thing that is relevant here is that the fact that he was initially given life in prison was due to a quirk in Florida's law that due to his age resulted in the only way he could've been charged was as an adult & the courts had no discretion in deciding whether to try as an adult or juvenile, which they would've had if he had been just 1 year. After initial trial was over at least 3 of jurors [possibly more, the 3 are the only ones I happen to know about,] spoke on the record in the media about not agreeing with the fact that he was tried as an adult & not a juvenile. With one of them specifically saying, "I don't think anybody there thought that Lionel intended to kill her, but the state didn't have to prove that. I think it was too easy for them." He mentions the state not having to prove that because they didn't have to, the charge was under the felony murder rule with the underlying felony alleged to be aggravated child abuse. The sentencing order of the initial trial also mentioned that although he may not have willfully inflicted physical injury to the girl, he had knowingly done so on the basis that he should have reasonably expected that his acts would result in her physical injury [which is why the denial by the initial court of a competency hearing was why the appeal court remanded the case back to trial *after* a competency hearing.] They also knew each other somewhat well because Tate's uncle was engaged to the girl's mother.

Tate was convicted of killing Eunick by stomping on her so forcefully that her liver was lacerated. Lazarus of Broward County Circuit Court said that "The acts of Lionel Tate were not the playful acts of a child [...] The acts of Lionel Tate were cold, callous and indescribably cruel."[6]

To me it’s not even dark stories because he’s literally so honest and is just speaking the truth. He literally makes me question things. Other comedians I laugh and can relate to some of the jokes so I laugh even more. But with Dave Chapelle I laugh while also getting to learn stuff. I remember hearing adults call him crazy for giving up his show. At the time since I was young, I believed he was crazy too because in my adolescent mind, who would give up money ? Now as an adult, I wholeheartedly understand why he gave up what he did. His even having the courage & self-awareness to know that it’s not working for him makes me respect him 100x more. He’s my favorite comedian now. He literally makes me think deeper with some of the content he brings up in his specials! You guys should check out some of his Netflix specials in your free time!

Yes that really happened to the 15 year old boy. This was a really sad story because he accidentally killed a 9 year old girl. His mental capacity was not of a 15 year old. He thought it was ok to try out moves he had seen on wrestling. My heart was heavy for both families. 😥

You should read the case. The little girl, who was 60 lbs btw, the boy was 166 lbs, suffered a broken rib, organ damage, and a fractured skull. This wasn't a single move that killed her. He beat her to death, and I'm sure she was crying out for help the whole time too. Now look at you, feeling sorry for a worthless murderer.

@@ethanbarnes8423 I did read and saw the whole case. Just like I said, I feel sorry for both families. My heart ached for what had happened to the little girl and YES I have a little empathy for the boy because I don't think around that age your mental status is clear . Do I feel that consequences that he needs to to take responsibility for ? Yes. You have your opinion and I have mind. God bless.

What Chapelle does brilliantly is tackle a topic where you first think "Yeah but Dave..." and then he turns it around and then you think "Damn, Dave haven't thought about it like that.". Because he's right. On the one hand you think 'she's only 15' and on the other hand society says '15 is old enough to get put away for life".

I looked in to the case. They say that 15 year old black kid did it deliberately and killed another younger kid. But... Chapelle says it best, "if a deliberate attack by a 15 yo makes him an adult, then a 15 yo can also be considered an adult for other things (eg., age of consent)". Don't have double standards.
