No they don’t. Dave signed a contract he didn’t complete. He would have gotten 50 million for season 2 and 3, but he walked away, not fulfilling the terms of his contract. Now he’s having remorse 15 years later. He put himself in this situation. Of course it’s unfair that he didn’t get paid, but he would have walked away with 50 million had he just done his part. He’s emotional about it, so his version of the story is a bit distorted vs reality.

I think it should be interpreted within the context of comedy. I tend to side with the comedians justifying what they say because they are making jokes. This wasn't that... He's not trying to be funny. He wants me to take his requests literally and act. I will say one of the things I've noticed is that because Dave gets so serious during some comedy specials the audience isn't always sure when to laugh/cheer/applaud and if you should or shouldn't, but no matter how serious Dave gets he never says or does anything to make the audience feel bad or guilty for doing so at the wrong times. Sometimes when they applaud too early he'll say things like "well wait hold on" but it always sounds like a friend talking to another friend. Its really cool that he can get serious without actually killing the mood, it's one of his greatest strengths imo

That's a little unfair to say. The old Dave Chappelle was about social commentary, the new Dave Chappelle is about social justice, his new stuff is very intense and in your face, it's not really a comedy show but more talking to the audience about morality from his point of view whilst keeping it funny and light hearted at times. A lot of the topics he speaks about now are social taboos (transgenders, LGBT, police violence towards blacks, an unfair system in America towards ethnics and minorities etc.) In a political climate where the Liberals are trying to sweep the dirt under the rug and pretending these issues don't exist and act shocked when they do, he's cutting through the crap with a sharp knife and reminding us that nothing has changed, things are nice now, but systematically there is still disproportionate racism that still exists in this country. Now what does that have to do with the audience? Well they came for a comedy show and instead they have a man speaking very passionately about subject matters that are close to him, therefore it's hard for them to find an "opening" to clap and laugh since a lot of Dave's jokes are hidden in passes and disguised as jokes which is what we are familiar with, but when he doesn't give the audience a time to breathe during his rants, it can seem like it's "awkward timing". Just my analysis on it and as a long time fan of Dave Chappelle, great mind but even he can be caught up in his own bullshit sometimes to see the world around him, which is ironic coming from the guy who used to run social commentary as his main act (mainly focused towards the unfair treatment of black people). He's trying to come across as more prophetic and wiser but at the risk of sounding naïve and ignorant to the new world we live in. Still love what he does but he need to get back to the jokes and talk about the world around us, that's what we loved about him in the first place.

However Dave I think has got to the point he doesn't care at all anymore and that itself is scary to any industry. Facebook and social media can't silence everything. It was never about control. It’s clear Comedy Central let him do whatever he wanted from the very beginning. He was under too much pressure to produce content at the level the network and, really, the world had come to expect. He was being called the funniest man ever and stuff like that, and CC wanted 12 episodes a year. If you go back to season 1, it’s legendary. But by season 2 they were having a hard time coming up with written content and it shows. The pressure to meet the high standard was too great and Dave split to Africa.
