Lol I've known Dave since he was about 16 years old. All us locals knew that he was going places! When he comes back in town we all get together for a drink! And he is truly the same dude inside & outside! We all love our Dave!

Amen! do you know I found out about Them Crooked vultures well, I heard the name on a College radio station but I never actually heard their music and I didn't know that it was Josh Homme and Dave Grohl. and I found out about them watching a nandi Bushell video of her accepting the challenge to do the Them Crooked vultures song and I was blown away twice because this girl is so incredibly talented and dedicated and it was just a really amazing moment .it was utterly amazing and to find out that there was more music from Josh Homme and Dave Grohl? Oh yeah! so that was a double whammy and a great day for my musical experience. Iff you don't know about nandi Bushell I strongly suggest you Google that name and be blown away by her, by Dave , by the amazing Dedication that you're going to witness. And a final nod to Josh Homme- Man, you are among the highest echelon of musical creators. You are a Titan, and I thank you for your contribution to my life and music history. EXCELSIOR!

Nathaniel Julius your 100% correct. I saw Dave at a drum clinic with Steve Smith, Dave Weckl and Louie Bellson! He’s a class act! He actually said to the crowd “ why am I here with these great drummers” lol! Dave is very humble he knows he’s not the greatest but really, who cares! He’s great at what he does that’s all that matters!

As far as technique goes you don’t get much better than guys like Dave Weckl and Simon Phillips. That’s measurable. As far as the ability to bring a song to life and make it shine - that contributes to greatness too. But again there’s no such thing as the world’s best drummer. It’s like the world’s best pizza. Who decides? I like mine with pineapple.

I love Kurt as much as the next guy, but Dave really helped out. Kurt was going to go places no matter what because he was a great song writer. A musician to the core; heroin addiction, embarrassment over commercial success, the whole 9 yards. Still there's no denying the drumming in Nirvana was perfect.

Don Beleef If you're a drummer then you would know Dave Grohl isn't the world's best drummer. There is a difference between saying I think he is the best, meaning you just happen to like what Dave does, than to say he IS the best, meaning he is the best in the world. The latter is not so much about liking someone's drumming style, showmanship, etc it is about judgement based on criteria, such as technique. For example, I prefer Gene Krupa over Buddy Rich because Krupa floats my boat with his rhythms and use of toms. However, I have no bother with admitting Rich is superior. You can be a fan, love a drummers work and at the same time not contradict yourself by saying that other drummers have superior technique and skill. Put another way, there is the subjective experience of liking something and the objective judgement using criteria. I love Marc Bolan's vocals over Freddy Mercury's, but Bolan certainly didn't have the vocal range of Freddy Mercury. So what if Mercury is better technically than Bolan as a singer, I still like Bolan! What's the big deal?

But to say Dave grohl didn't bring anything to the music table is completely ignorant. He brought grunge to the table, which ended 80's butt rock hair bands and brought to light a completely new artistic emotion to music. +crustyballs Technically brilliant but not my favourite jazz drummer. I prefer the drummers who came a little later and had more feel Steve Gadd, Steve Smith and Peter Erskine but definitely no doubting Buddy's technique but Buddy did not really groove.

+misfit Buddy's really considered the best so widely because he was so famous, he did a huge amount for drumming in terms of people actually paying attention to drums, he's really nowhere near the best (although he is still one of the greats)
