Every time I watch recent videos of King and Lombardo giving interviews like they are this great friends, I remember this old video from german tv. It took some time for me to find it, but I finally did.

Absolutely agree, their impact is huuuuge, no need to be great guitarists, but really in the style they're playing, they're probably The Best anyways. Though still the fact that drummers like Dave were hard to find back then, hence I think he's had a bigger impact on the scene than them... he was virtually alone playing the way he had, fast & brutal like no other at the time. Glad to hear Jeff was the reason you'd picked up a guitar, he's my fave guy in Slayer as well, best songs he'd wrote...
@Sweix8811 жыл бұрын
yeah its was very hard to find such a great drummer, but remmember that when they hooked up dave was still doing pizza deliveries and drumming for him was just a hobby. he did an amazing job learning so fast and so good without a teacher , and so did jeff. just look at how many "insane" drummers these days have well know teachers and yet they havent done anything memorable..xd

@@jansandman6983 Well, every band at a certain level is run like a business. As they should, being in a band at that level isn't a hobby anymore. That's how they make a living.
@jansandman69834 ай бұрын
@@Henry0870 I think it depends on the people within the band. Example: Metallica: It is obvious that Kirk, James, and Lars treat each other more than just business partners but have maintained their friendship as well. hence might be the reason for the longevity of their band's success more than other bands could ever wish for.

Um, Paul and Dave are two different drummers. Paul played with brutality, and Dave played with aggressive feel. Listen to the fills on Ghosts of War, Hallowed Point and the coup de grace, the live version of Chemical Warfare. As a drummer myself (and I can prove it if asked) Dave can play the songs slayer did with Paul to the T if he wanted to, but plays them with his own added style to it. Paul is awesome, and when I first heard Divine Intervention, I had a hard on, but Dave>Paul IMO. :)

So true; all of my favorite Slayer songs were written by Jeff. Plus, even though Jeff's solos aren't anything that great in a "technical" way - his solos have some serious intensity whereas Kerry's solos are pretty awful. I don't know if I would even call them "solos" - mostly just wacky noises created by heavy abuse of the Floyd Rose style tremolo.

Said he didnt hear anything until late August, Kerry called up and said Dave we got some big shows show next month you gotta be there!! Thats really fucked up on many levels!!
@metalfiend12412 жыл бұрын
@mcfarlanehunter True, I read his interview and he said he approached the band with a knife actually hidden, if you can believe this, because he wasn't sure of how the band would react. He said they were cool about it, which surprised him. After he quit, he told Modern Drummer magazine he made just as much money as a security guard, but, thankfully he's back. Kerry just has a certain attitude, some people are like that, and won't change. I see them doing interviews together now

Kerry is a nice guy with a bit of ego problem. I'm allmost finished second time of reading Slayer book. And there was written this situation many pages. For those who do not know that Dave has left the band two times. Third time was temporal at the beginning, but things did go well and the rest is history. I could tell more of the book but my english is too bad for that. For this text i had to use dictionary to get some words right.. :) All members have something that Slayer needs to work.
@ELK198961212 жыл бұрын
You are correct on Dittohead, he doesn't really capture the work from Divine that well. Payback and Stain Of Mind is however not played wrong at all, Payback is thrashy and straight-forward and Stain is pretty simple acually. Dave does Disciple in his own way, though I like Bostaph's version better. But Dave plays the old stuff from 83-90 in a whole new ways that sounds fantasic, and I also like new stuff. In the end, I think of Bostaph and Lombardo as equals.

Dave Lombardo is the phenomenon of thrash sound!!! He is THE thrash drummer, it's his simple straight-forward style that became archetypeal & synonymous for thrash & most influencial for all the other extreme metal genres as well. Who needs a technical drummer for thrash & Slayer??? So, he is THE most important member of Slayer, even if fans today don't realize it (anymore). Best drummer of the Big 4 & best thrash drummer in history. (can't say any other guy in Slayer is No.1.)

That depends. Will he allow Slayer to continue recording and touring without Jeff? I'd like to see what he does after the band's current touring commitments and what will happen with the songs they supposedly recorded thus far for a new album. If he goes on like business as usual, it's a slap in the face to Jeff's memory. They're basically a tribute band at this point with only 2 original members. IMO, they should call it quits after all current touring obligations are finished.
