Carter Beauford is the best drummer on the planet! I have seen them live 8 or so times and you should check your listing because they are touring now. Don't pass up a chance to see them! Carter goes NUTS on the drums on Two Step outro AND Carter Beauford Drum Solo - Dave Matthews Band (Two Step) These last two are KZfaq videos.

Chod, you gotta listen to "The Stone." The music wavers between ominous and elation. It's about Dave's sister who was murdered (in South Africa where Dave and his family are from) by her husband and then husband killed himself. If you listen to the lyrics, it's sorta written from the husband's perspective. The outro is just beautiful.. brings me to tears every time. Powerful song when you know why he wrote it. (From Listener Supported album). I'd love to see your reaction to it.

Carter Beauford (drums) is a very talented musician. As are others in the band. Dave Matthews himself can be kind of polarizing, people love him or they don't. I used to be really into them, not as much anymore. But listening to this song again after a while, it rekindled what I liked about them in the first place. Each of the 6 shows i saw of them were special.

There's so many versions of these songs. Ive heard them completely dismantle stuff they have done live and reform it on the fly, completely in the moment. They are not a band afraid to really go for it and as a result have stumbled, but only rarely. I have never heard a band have such sonic variance and range so the live experience really changes things and that cant be fully replaced by listening to live recordings but it does help. I believe ANTS MARCHING is perhaps their most unique song that defines them, and the live intro can at times be so enticing with how the violin and clarinet weave in out around and together through the song.

The violin player is no longer in the band, and the original saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist passed away. Current lineup includes an electric guitar, a different sax player / multi-instrumentalist and a keyboard player. Carter Beauford is an amazing drummer and well worth watching live videos of. Their live versions surpass the studio ones, many including this one stretched beyond 10 minutes with jams.

I felt pretty sure that I was one of the few people in my state to hear them before 'What Would You Say' even hit the airwaves lol. Their first major album was more subdued than their other albums so it was always cool to listen to it on a rainy day.
