We're starting off with a simple concept to enhance your chord progressions with that Dave Matthews' Signature Sound. Yes, Dave has some awesome fast riffs, but in reality, it is what we are talking about here, just on the next level. So get this concept down, and in the future we can talk about his more advanced stuff. Hope you enjoy, and remember to try this with your own song.

Finally, someone who demystified Dave's voodoo guitar magic, in a simple but technical language that i could understand. By far the BEST video, and hands down the BEST explanation of what makes the sound unique and how to dig deeper into the theory and application. Finally!!!! You certainly earned my sub on this one, looking forward to digging into your other videos THANK YOU!!!!!

This is one of the best explanations I've ever heard on how he does what he does and demystifies it. Great job showing how to make a good progression great by adding your own flair.

Great stuff as always. Dave was an early guitar hero of mine due to his ability to play percussively, which was very interesting as I didn’t have a band to play with and wanted to fill as much sonic space as possible while playing alone in my room. Some of it gets tricky just due to physical differences - he’s 6’3 or so, has big hands, and leads with his middle and ring fingers. Also, his ability to be that precise while playing so aggressively is amazing. Not easy stuff. He is truly one of the great guitar-playing singers.

been getting back into acoustic playing after over a decade of electric only and naturally that has me revisiting my love for DMB. This video is so great man! I appreciate your knowledge and how you broke this down. I'd considered myself "advanced" at guitar so these "thoughts behind the playing" tips really go a long way.

Second comment ever(Andrea got the first)... I attended Dave and friends in Philly and Trey always looks like he's staring at the sun during solos. James Taylor is the reason I play guitar, but Dave Matthews (17 concerts attended) inspired the practice. That being said, I love Andrea, Sean, KIndred, G.G., Alli, Jaida, and even Justin, But you sir are my favorite part of his channel.

What a fun video! It makes perfect sense after someone explains what is going on coupling the 1 and 3 notes. Nice, too, that even though you showed the simple essence of the technique, you give Dave Matthews full credit and kudos as an entertainer for putting it all together for great songs. Practice time. Thanks! Brad

Good info. I don't understand how saying Dave Matthews writes in the key of D, G and A because they are in his vocal range. D, G, and A -- that would cover everyone's vocal range. E, F#, and B would do the same thing - if you understand melodies and range.

Is there an online video course that teaches how to play like Dave? I am looking all over, but can't find one. I'm in between a beginner and a better than beginner, but would love to do more of this, but don't learn from tab and struggle with fractured teaching song by song.
