I get sick of these whiny conservatives trying to terrify people about immigrants. I work with immigrants from latin America from east Africa from Algeria from Iran and I am the minority (black btw) and we happily share the hard work and I see it as an pportunity to learn about their cultures their languages and their hopes to become citizens and take care of their families. These people are making this country a better place and I support them

Those people directly take jobs that for example, your group, black Americans could have used as stepping stones to more wealth. They also use government welfare for their children and families. They depress the labor market and decrease the value of labor. This show never reports on that for some reason

It’s also crazy because even when “legally” immigrating, it is incredibly hard to stay in the US through work sponsorship (incredibly expensive, limited sponsorships, specializing in certain fields, etc). The illegal immigration part comes in when the path to legal immigration and citizenship is made to be nearly impossible for most immigrants depending on where they’re from.

Illegal is illegal! This not about race you are being baited to think its about race. It's about low wage workers, which is indentured servitude. If you're not willing to work for low wages illegal immigrants are happy to!

Could illegal immıgrants even afford to stay in the USA without work, when they can't access whatever meager socialised safety nets that are only available to citizens? Why aren't conservatives going after the registered companies & their owners illegally hiring these workers, and making it feasible for them to stay in the first place, with whatever parsimonious pay-packet they're trickling down over them? Or am I asking stupid questions about the American 'party of law and order', that I can guess the answers to because it fits with their ethos of whataboutism, hypocrisy, and stagnation/regression?

Showed up at Ellis with legitimate claims for asylum, got off the boats and filed into the immigration center to begin the process to obtain citizenship? As opposed to swimming across the Rio Grande with no legitimate asylum claim other than looking to make a buck and getting free stuff, sneaking into Texas and trying to disappear? Yea...thats pretty similar.

Restrictions on immigration (especially people from certain countries) didn't even begin until the end of the 19th Century and it escalated severely in the middle of the 20th Century. So, it's funny how often these clowns want to both claim their relatives "followed the (non-existent) immigration laws" but also that they've laid roots in America for at least a century... I mean, it's not like anything they've ever had to argue on this topic needed to be based in truth anyway.

Conservatives reject a fundamental piece of his identity beyond his control (gay) while liberals reject something that he chooses to be (racist). If you are thinking "which of these is more moral" then it makes sense to be confused. You correctly conclude that it is more moral to judge someone for their character (the way liberals judge him for his character) rather than for their identity (the way conservatives judge him by his identity). You in your daily life evaluate things by what is more moral so it is natural for you to assume that Dave would do the same. There is a flaw in your reasoning, however. The flaw is in assuming that Dave is making an incorrect moral evaluation. He is not. In reality he is not making any moral evaluation but instead evaluating which group would be easier for him to live with. If he chooses to live with liberals they will confront him on his racism. If the chooses to live with conservatives they will confront him on being gay. He would rather be hated for being gay because then at least he can comfort himself by saying "well being gay is beyond my control so no use feeling bad about that" whereas he does not have that coping mechanism available when being confronted on his racism as being racist is well within his control. If he was constantly confronted on that he would have to feel bad about being racist and he does not want to feel bad. What at first appears to be hypocrisy is instead a logical extension of having different fundamental frameworks of thought. This is the case for many other "conservative hypocrisies" as well. They are not being inconsistent but rather they are instead being consistent within different frameworks.

They don’t want pathways to citizenship because the undocumented are a precarious, easily exploitable group. No, he surrounds himself with libertarians. Most libertarians believe that Europeans didn't steal North America because Native Americans didn't adequately "homestead" the land to the point where they could claim ownership. So the land was only officially owned (by the magical official universal law of property rights) when Europeans claimed ownership. It's all BS but that's their excuse. Basically it's their way of saying "my white ancestors owned their property legitimately and government has no right to challenge that right in any way and indigenous people have no legitimate claim so I'm not a hypocrite."

It’s steeped in racism with a twist of jealousy. “Why should they have a better future when we’re struggling to keep the power on?” I’ve had numerous conversations with these family members and they’re so stuck in that mindset 😔 Rubin’s rhetoric sounds like he’s trying to tap into that fear.

A Democrat plot to bring in folks they believe will vote for them because they aren't popular amongst the domestic population.....except for the fact the GOP has only won a single popular vote in my whole life. So that one is bunk. Unless you argue that the Democrats have been doing this successfully for 35+ years. Only folks arguing great replacement back that far was the KKK....so not sure if u want to make that argument. But yea u get the point

"these" people would be the first hint. the second would be assuming that they didnt have as much of a right to be here as anyone else. the third would be the unwillingness to create solutions to the issue of illegality that doesnt involve either keeping them out completely, or deporting them when they are found to be illegal. most of the undocumented people in this country DID come here legally via work visas; they just never renewed them. now tell me whats wrong with just giving people citizenship with no hoops to jump through; the only qualification being that you arent part of a criminal organization?

I was born here in California to Mexican parents. I was taken to a small Pueblo in Michoacan Mexico when I was 2 years old. You have no idea how right you are about this topic. I lived almost every thing you’ve described. My dad became a legal resident through amnesty which allowed him to work a good job, or any job for that matter. Which then allowed him to save money and get the whole family back to U.S soil. Now my mom and my brothers are all citizens to this already great country. People forget about the blood that has spilled from our heroes in battle, to protect our democracy and freedoms. But more than the blood that has poured into the earth; are the tears of those left behind. Let’s not fuck this up.

one more thing you can do, let their countries prosper. STOP TRYING TO CONTAIN "XYZ", let other countries have their version of Facebook, KZfaq and other companies instead of having to rely on American companies, let them ban American companies so they can raise theirs to the point where they can compete. You have a choice, either they live and wok there happily at the cost of having real competition for American companies, or you let them in here. The third choice is they come to desperation and either try to come here illegally when their countries have been strip mined or develop an intense hate of America and they will make more Putins, more Xi and Imran Khan types.
