A Good balanced review indeed, slightly strange to hear a bike with nearly 100hp described as down on power, but I'm a Harley rider, so have a different experience. One point I hope you don't mind me making is I found your filtering style a little eye-watering, having also had to do lots of that on the M6 last year between Manchester and Birmingham? Anyway, I did really enjoy your review style so thanks for that!

+sfbdotcom Cheers buddy. It's more torque than power that's lacking and it's certainly quick enough once it's it's up and moving, but with my bulk and full luggage I suspected that it would be a bit sluggish which is why I ended up getting the 1200 Explorer instead. I think the camera in wide angled Superview makes the filtering look a bit dicey, as it really exaggerates the speed towards the edge of the frame and makes it look as if things are really close. I'm actually a very conservative lanes splitter. I'm glad you enjoyed it and cheers for the feedback.

Thanks for the review, it was really helpful. I am presently looking at purchasing this very model in the coming months from my local dealer in Romford. They have a XRx Low demo arriving soon for me to try out and buying British for me is the way forward. Do you believe the screen needs a makeover?
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Nah the screen is okay, and if you're a taller rider like me, then an after market screen extender does the job. Unless you ride bikes like Goldwings or Pan Europeans a bit of wind noise is all part of the motorbike experience. Good luck with your purchase👍

That is nuts man. There is no WAY we could filter here in the states. Folks simply change lanes to much in traffic. You'd get run over.

I've just put an order down on an Explorer XRT, but having second thoughts. The explorer completely removed wind buffeting for me on motorways because I'm quite tall (6"3), how did you find the wind on the 800 XRT? I'll be bringing a pillion and looking to fully load the panniers / top box.
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 8 жыл бұрын
I found that the screen on the 800 wasn't very good for keeping the wind off me, and if I'd have bought it then I would have bought an after market one to improve things. I ended up buying the 2015 1200 Explorer which has a bigger screen, but I had to fit a small extender to the top of the screen to get rid of the last bit of wind buffet
@michaelgray8128

+VeeFour I test rode the two for the last time today and I must say I agree, whilst I assumed all the buffeting had gone - a little existed on the explorer. I may buy an extended for the long distance motorways - but the 1200 is by far a very different beast and in my opinion, just that bit more fun! Thanks for the info, stay safe out there!

Hey veefour ...whats ur opinion on 2014 triumph speed triple or 2014 aprilia tuono v4r abs, they are my bike of choice..but im leaning more for the apriia..but everyone that has 1 wants to sell it ...why?..thanks
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 жыл бұрын
Carlos Madureira Good question. Well I had a 2012 Speed Triple which I think is pretty much the same as the 2014, and it was a fantastic bike. I had no complaints about it, it's engine is superb and it's really smooth, great handling bike and the build quality is top notch. It doesn't have the electronic rider aids that most litre bikes have these days, but it doesn't suffer for the lack of them. However, I traded it in for a brand new 2014 Aprilia Tuono. Why you may ask? Well in a nutshell, the Tuono was the bike I should have bought in the first place. It's a very similar bike to the Triumph, and does everything the S3 does.......only much much better. The Aprilia is considerably and very noticeably more powerful and torquey. It handles like a full blooded super sports bike, but is reasonably comfortable. When revving hard, it's V4 engine makes a noise like the end of the world, and throwing the throttle wide open in 2nd and 3rd gear feels like you're riding the leading edge of the shock wave from a nuclear detonation. It's got all the rider aids to stop you making to much of a mess of things, but they don't get in the way of the enjoyment this bike gives you. All in all the Triumph is a fantastic bike and well worth owning, but the Tuono is (in my opinion) just better in every way. I think the reason that people seem to sell them, is that the fuel mileage is terrible, and they guzzle fuel like there's a hole in the tank. The low speed fuel injection mapping is quite lumpy, which makes the bike a bit difficult to ride at low speed in heavy traffic. I suspect that the Tuono is just a bit to much bike for some people, and I don't say that meaning that I'm a super star rider who can handle such a bike, but more that it's not the kind of bike that you want to ride day in day out as it's a very aggressive machine. Also sometimes all that power can be a bad thing, because you can never use it all on the public highway. If you fully open the taps on one, and this is the same for any super bike really, you'll be going in excess of the safe limits of the road, and the legal speed limits, in seconds. Sometimes lower powered bikes are more fun because you can let loose on them more without fear of getting yourself into something, that you can't get out of with body and bike intact. I only ride my Aprilia at the weekend and on the occasional track day, if I had to use it for day to day transport, it'd get annoying quite quickly. All that aside though, the Tuono is the most awesome machine I've ever ridden, and I love love love it!!!

Thanks, great review! I'll be picking up my new Tiger XRX in a couple weeks. Filtering is illegal where I live, USA, Massachusetts. I've got to say, from where I sit it looks horribly risky... be careful!
@VeeFour
@VeeFour 6 жыл бұрын
Bil Bonanno You've chosen well. The engine is a peach and the XRx has the perfect level of features versus price. The wide angled lens on my camera makes filtering look a lot faster and closer quarters than it actually is. In reality these plenty of room and time to react, plus I've been riding for over 3 decades with a long spell as a notorbike courier, so the ability to filter is almost hardwired into my brain after literally 100s of thousands of miles doing it 😉

MrEnglishman6969 After riding for 30 Years without ear plugs, I've definitely done myself damage, but I think it's the wind noise more than anything that causes the damage. I go everywhere with plugs now, but it's definitely a case of a stable door flapping in the wind whilst the sounds of a horse whinnying over the horizon can be heard 😞

paul teixeira I think I may have covered it in a subsequent video, but in a nutshell when I made this vid I was researching a number of options of various engine sizes and models, but I had narrowed it down to this one and the BMW R1200GS TA, the Triumph 1200 wasn't even on the test list due to its physical size. However, on a subsequent visit to the Triumph dealer I was offered a test ride on the 1200, and I was suprised just how nimble it was for a big tank of a bike and how much more stable and comfortable it was over the 800 on a motorway cruise. The dealer then offered me a brand new zero mileage 1200 at a massive discount because it was an outgoing model (the 2016 electronic suspension model was due out) and this discount was so much that it made the decision easy. For not much more than the 800, I got a brand new 1200 with all the accessories catalogue thrown at it for free, and it's proven to have been the right choice for me

Seriously, every rider should wear ear plugs on anything other than a short trip, or in the long run you will end up with damaged hearing. It's no joke - tinnitus (constant ringing/whistling in the ears) is hell and doesn't go away. So many riders don't realise this, and by the time they do it's too late.

@VeeFour
@VeeFour 9 жыл бұрын
+Carlos Madureira That's not bad advice as the S3 is the comfier bike and is great all round. I thought the same, but I always found myself thinking about the Aprilia, and ultimately that desire never went away. Then one day whilst just wandering around my local dealer, I spied a brand new Tuono on display with a manager's special sticker on it with a big reduction, and before I knew what was going on I was shaking hands with the dealer. I don't regret a thing :)

What isn't so great is the fudging rear foot pegs which will destroy the bike if it tips over. Words fail me to describe the utter contempt I feel and so want to express for the.... I so want to say it, i really do.. who designed the frame.

+sandydenny lives I mentioned this very issue with the dealer as another vlogger brought it up on their review, but the guy said that he's never seen any problems caused by it in all the crash damaged ones that had ended up at their workshop. But then again he would say that wouldn't he :)

Needless to say the English are always going to be biased, so don't take their words seriously. You must test ride one yourself to find out what's really like. However, I think Triumph building this bike with such a low ground clearance they've completely ruined it. I'm only 5'10' I had my legs bent, it's a very weird sensation, it felt like I was seating on a scooter, it's going to hit all sorts of bumps and uneven tarmac and scrape the foot pedals off especially into the bends. It didn't give me any confidence since i was always worried to touch down with that little sort of plate they've fitted under it, I definitely disliked the 19' front wheel, replacing the spokes, they've totally spoiled it, what a waste ! Thanks but no thanks !
