👉 The world stands still for this moment and everyone holds their breath. A singing teacher calls them the two musical titans...yes, yes, yes! This duet was Dimash's dream and it is coming true. What an honor for our beloved Dimash and a great joy for Maestro Domingo…. And I was bathed in tears of joy. I'm sooo happy. Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the competition for young classical musicians... and then... he gave us dear ones this wonderful jewel. Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and besides, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more clearly in the second song at the end of the concert.) Dimash would never act recklessly towards his duet partners. With good manners and respect, he would never drown out Maestro Domingo (then still 82) with his voice. He even adapts to Maestro Domingo's vocal color. Dimash opens a new world to many Dears... the world of classical music. The two empty seats at the judges' panel table are Placido's and Dimash's as both were also judges for the Virtuoso contest geared towards young classical musicians. This performance is a gift from Mr Domingo who upon meeting Dimash for the first time told him he'd like to sing with him. I'm sure Dimash must taken it as quite the honor to be asked by one of the world's most renowned tenor of his generation and a professional singer he had always looked up to since he was a child.

Dimash and Placido were both judges for a televised competition for young classical musicians called The Virtuosos. When they met before the filming Placido asked Dimash to perform a duet with him. Although Placido was renowned as one of The Three Tenors along with Pavarotti and Jose Carreras he explained that he no longer has the tenor range due to his age so in this he performed the baritone role while Dimash took on the tenor role. This show is broadcast across 4 European countries and filmed in Hungary. Dimash is already contracted to return as a judge next year when he will be joined by Jose Carreras as a new judge. There is a possibility that it may be broadcast across 20 countries next year and the show director stated that they are also in negotiations with Sir Elton John to also judge next year too. Elton was a judge in this show in 2015 when it first started.

This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that, at the age of 5, he had a VHC of a concert of Maestro Domingo and dreamed of meeting and working with him from that time. I am sure Dimash appreciated the opportunity to support young classical artists as a judge of the Virtuoso program at the invitation of Maestro Domingo. We will continue to support Dimash as he reaches for his dreams. Thank you for your reaction.

Dimash was invited to sit as a judge on the Young Virtuosos competition in Budapest. As he arrived, he met Placido Domingo who headed the panel. There’s a clip of that meeting where both stated how the admired each other. Placido then said, We must sing a duet together! And so they did, in between judging the contestants.

I suspect that this was a once in a lifetime duet. Placido has been one the world's top Opera singers for 50 years. In case you did not know, the Pearl Fishers Duet is 2 good buddies singing about how their shared love for a beautiful local Priestess shall never come between their friendship for each other. There was no audience except for the television crews behind the judges table (and friends and sponsors). This was the Virtuosos Talent Show for very young classical musicians being recorded for the Danube Hungarian tv channel and the ending was this special performance of the duet with Placido and Dimash was a delight. Placido and Hans Zimmer (who is a sponsor also) invited Dimash to be a judge at this event. Rumors are circulating that Placido is trying to get Jose Carreras (one of the Three Tenors with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo) to be a judge for the next Virtuosos show along with Dimash (if he can make it). Now that would be truly historic if true and if it could be made to happen. The new Three Tenors with Placido, Jose and Dimash. 🥰 Would love to see and hear it.

This was part of the Virtuoso competition held in Eastern Europe to identify promising young classical artists which was started by Maestro Domingo. The others you see were part of the judging panel, of which Maestro Domingo and Dimash were also a part. It was Maestro Domingo's suggestion to sing the duet. Dimash had 1 day to prepare and they had 1 rehearsal. Magical.

Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”!
