[20 September 2021] I must admit he doesn't come off well here. Half-alive, talkin' cocaine jive...Thank goodness he resolved to get sober a little while after this interview was filmed. But I do think he was right to say that he didn't care if other people didn't dig his work. If you're an artist who cares too much about what audiences think of your work - if you're an artist who only really cares about *PLEASING* an audience, as opposed to challenging an audience - you're not going to take any risks or break any ground as an artist. And David Bowie was always an artist who took risks in his work, and who strove to break new ground as a pop artist. That's why I respect him. That's why, even at his most drug-sick and desperate, he was still worth listening to.

As an artist it doesn’t matter if people don’t like our work it’s up for them to decide

this is the only interview I watched (and I have a lot of them I'm a Bowie collector) where he was out of his mind and it's a pity because Cavett was good and it could have been a very interesting interview.

Wouldn't it make sense in these situations to just RELOCATE the art? Lots of museums just have a pillar or gargoyle from a no longe standing structure on display, it's not radical

I have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like the other Dick Cavett ones.

Cavett always liked to come off as the smartest kid in the class, he would compete with his guests for attention - here Bowie is not standing for any of it - Cavett is not a good listener
