Lyrics:
Well, Annie's pretty neat, she always eats her meat
Joe is awful strong, bet your life he's putting us on
Oh lordy, oh lordy, you know I need some loving
Oh move me, touch me
John, I'm only dancing
She turns me on, but I'm only dancing
She turns me on, don't get me wrong
I'm only dancing
Oh shadow love was quick and clean, life's a well-thumbed machine
I saw you watching from the stairs, you're everyone that ever cared
Oh lordy, oh lordy, you know I need some loving
Move me, touch me
John, I'm only dancing
She turns me on, but I'm only dancing
She turns me on, don't get me wrong
I'm only dancing
John, I'm only dancing
She turns me on, but I'm only dancing
She turns me on, don't get me wrong
I'm only dancing
Dancing
Won't someone dance with me?
Touch me, ohh

David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

What I like about this is the sinister element. They look like a gang. Bowie looking like an alien but maybe an evil alien? And the anchor tattoo. Mick Rock is brilliant. He knew how to get across an image and atmosphere. No need for a bunch of colored lights and stage effects. Shadows are vital. There is little mystique in modern music.

He could always see and react to what was to come - musically and in the arts and trend scene. He invested vast amounts in the internet at its earliest stages of development and made an absolute fortune way beyond his musical incomes.

An orgasmic climatic beast of a song, the 4 note rundown from Ronson in the chorus (when he says "Oh Lordy"). Well quite simply "OH LORDY"!

This is about a homosexual relationship. After dancing with a girl, David Bowie reassures his male partner that he’s “only dancing” with her, nothing more. Months prior to the song’s original release as a non-album single in 1972, Bowie had claimed to be bisexual. The piece’s gay connotations meant it was overlooked in America until its inclusion on the “ChangesOneBowie” LP (1976). There were two versions of “John, I’m Only Dancing” : one with and one without a saxophone solo. The official video featured dancers from Lindsay Kemp’s mime troupe (Kemp trained Bowie and Kate Bush in dance). Directed by Mick Rock, it was a precursor to the kind of videos MTV aired many, many years later, with studio footage of the performance intercut with quick, eye-catching shots. UNQUESTIONABLY AHEAD OF ITS TIME❕ David Bowie revisited the tune in 1979, in a soul vein, as “John, I’m Only Dancing Again.” 💚🎶💜 Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed will you remain, David Robert Jones, a.k.a. David Bowie (1947 - 2016)… 🌹

I was a Bowie fan without even knowing it! From the age of 5-7 it seems I had a range of Bowie songs. I was looking through his songs and saw this one and I thought I remember this title. Photographic memory helps

They did a gorg thing with the lighting on Bowie's face, and the Winehouse eyeliner, and the bare collarbones, like, pure aesthetic appeal.
