Bowie reinventing himself was part of his genius. Even changing the tone of his voice. It is higher and not as defined in Space Oddesy as in say, Let's Dance. I've always loved Labyrinth and made sure to have a copy on whatever system is current.

David Bowie was a genius, and this song epitomised the feelings we all had about the Moon landings at the time, especially the heroism of those brave American Astronauts who operated on computer resources that are miniscule to what we now use in everyday life. Again, thank you for being so appreciative and so open to music which is new to you.

Bowie had an amazing voice, but think about all the technology that we have today when it comes to recording music and the fact that this was recorded in the late 60s or early 70s the quality of this sound stands up to any thing we have today, Bowie took his music in many different directions he rarely stuck with one sound, Star Man and Ziggy Played Guitar are a couple more I liked by him R.I.P David Bowie

Lazarus (his goodbye song) I think that those songs are the best for introduce Bowie to people. To truly enjoy his less popular songs you need to know more about Bowie's history and whats he's been going through writing some of his masterpieces. They are great, but sometimes weird. The Bowie song "Ashes to Ashes" contains the line "We know Major Tom was a junkie"...which kind of gives away what this song was really about.
@kristijanEX
@kristijanEX 4 жыл бұрын
That's not really the vibe I got from the song, not that I want to dictate to the creator what the song should be about. But in my opinion, whilst it does make sense that he's a junkie in retrospect, but it kind of lowers thr value of the song to me. To me Major Tom is a spaceman who loved his wife very much and knew that he meet his end ("His circuit's dead, there's something wrong) and that combined with the tonal shift gave me a very different feeling. It was a very emotional song to me that represented space travel well. Making this song about a junkie and how he was high off his kite just doesn't feed the narrative. But that's just my opinion.

@almostfm
@almostfm 4 жыл бұрын
The reason you heard stuff just on one side and then the other came in was that when the song was recorded, they had only 8 or maybe even 4 tracks to work with so it was common to have multiple parts on one track. When they'd do the stereo mixes, they'd often pan things hard left or hard right, partly because it was the style, and partly because they had so few "slots" to put things. It wasn't nearly as noticeable on vinyl as it is on a CD or other digitial formats, because the separation between right and left is so much better than it is on a turntable.
@user-ng2rb5ob9z

David is my favorite male singer. 💥 He co-wrote & sung on the track Under Pressure with 👑. You need to check out his Live Aid performance, he didn’t have his own band. 💥 Bowie was called the Chameleon of rock, because he was always changing. He was very funny & very smart. This song came out when we were all consumed with the space race, landing on the moon first. (USA did). 🌛 He did over 30 albums. Was cast in many movies, Labyrinth is my favorite. The muppets & Bowie together. 😂 A few songs, Changes, Hero’s, Blue Jean, Jean Genie, Lets Dance, Life on Mars, Star Man ( he played Ziggy Stardust). He liked to make up characters because he was shy on stage. Aladdin Sain, The Thin White Duke.✨He died in 2016 of liver cancer. 2 days before his death his last album Blackstar came out. It was his way of saying goodbye to his fans. 💫

Chris Hadfields version has me in tears every time. May be because I've always wanted to go up there, but am too stupid and poor to go.

I love seeing you enjoy new music! David Bowie was the first person in movies I ever saw with the style and weirdness I wanted to exude. I straight up took a day off work the day he passed away. I can't believe you had never experienced him lol! He was a bright light, I love that still is to people who haven't been exposed ❤
