The guitar riffs from Ziggy is Mick Ronson. Mick was the guitar riff master. Mick is one of the many guitar players who took a backseat to the artist yet created the guitar hooks that are key parts of those early Bowie albums. Mick is well known for his catchy guitar riffs but hardly anyone knows his name. His well known riffs are on recordings that include: Ziggy, Cracked Actor, The Jean Genie etc. Check out his great guitar lead part on the bonus version of Madman Across the Water on the Elton John album Tumbleweed Connection. Mick Ronson was also a producer of many great songs. Mick should be recognized!

“Ziggy” one of David’s numerous personas he adopted over the years. Hard to believe this came out in ‘72 when I was just 11 y/o, thankfully I had an older sister who introduced me to a lot of great music at that time.

My favorite Bowie era, rocking out with Mick Ronson and the Spiders From Mars. That entire era deserves full reactions, he will mess with your mind and leave you freaking thrilled! From the same album do Moonage Daydream, an all time glam-rock classic with Bowie giving Mick a chance to really shine. This song is also incredible live, my jaw dropped when I saw the Ziggy Stardust Concert movie, some of the best rock you will ever hear along with Bowie in eclectic theatrical mode. Bowie was a Genre on his own. So many styles & characters. He always sang as his character until he recorded Wild is the Wind. This was a tribute to Nina Simone who recorded the song in 1966. This was the first time Bowie sang as himself. ♥️ Love him & miss him! 💔

Level of musicianship is second to the sheer genius of his songwriting and progression as an artist. In his body of work, every single song wasn't the best but it was all part of the growth of a musician that we will never see again. Keep killin it gentlemen, thanks as always.

This is one of my top Bowie tracks of all time.

The first Bowie song I recall hearing was "Fame," circa 1974 (I was 14). I loved it but didn't do a deep dive into his music until my daughter turned me on to the album "Hunky Dory." I would describe Bowie as a chameleon who took on many personas, all of them special in their own way. Fast forward to 2007. I took my daughter Melissa to see him in Atlanta at Chastain Park; he played for 3 straight hours. The thing that I call "an unforgettable concert experience" came when he sang Suffragette City when 10,000 people in unison called out "Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am." He also performed my favorite song, "Ashes to Ashes," which was what I especially wanted to hear. "I'm Afraid of Americans" is another banger. Another is the Christmas song he sang with Bing Crosby, a duet of the songs "Peace On Earth" and "The Little Drummer Boy." God bless you guys. Keep up the good work.

When this album came out my roommate worked at a high-end stereo store. We'd go in after hours and listen to this, among others, in the high-end room through Crown amps and Klipsch corner horn speakers. The experience was transcendental

I've loved David Bowie since childhood when my aunt gave me the album David Live when I was 10 years old. The record was recorded at the Tower Theater (Upper Darby, PA right outside West Philadelphia), and my aunt saw all 6 nights Bowie was in town during the Diamond Dogs tour. I feel privileged to have seen him live 4 times, and he didn't disappoint. Even the night I got arrested for underage drinking in the Spectrum parking lot. Good times back then 😌

I have probably listened to this album a thousand times over the last four decades and it never gets old. Never.

Bowie was one of those artists who only improved with age. He was doing some of his most jaw-dropping work just before his untimely passing. I'd suggest looking at some of his later work, including 'The Stars are Out Tonight' and "Blackstar', which is the culmination of the Major Tom saga that began with 'Space Oddity'.

David Bowie to me is another shining example of the music scene in this era that we were so fortunate to enjoy. Nobody sounded anything like him, completely unique, but loaded with talent and incredible songwriting skill. What a great time to be growing up and seeking new music at the record store and on the radio as one of the few forms of entertainment available. Magic

I've said it for decades, and never heard anyone say it before, but hard to say I'm wrong.....I would have done anything possible to get Bowie and Prince together for a collab. Nothing they couldn't do individually, so collectively impossible to contemplate beyond a dream. Too late even for A.I. which they could outwit even dead.

Glad you loved the vocals! According to Tony Visconti his producer 100% of Bowies vocals were first takes during the 1970's! He'd put down the music first and then and come and sing his vocal; always first take. I checked again when he died and even by then, with various illnesses, he still had managed 95% of his vocals as first takes. That is just one ridiculously talented singer ;)

This album and tour really put Bowie on the map. Ziggy is a classic album, and really Ziggy was the first character persona Bowie adopted. I would add that you should not miss the importance of Mick Ronson on guitar. He also did arrangements for some of the instrumentation, strings and horns. Strong, strong album. If you think it sounds futuristic today, imagine what it sounded like in 1972. His appearance, stage show, and music was completely different and utterly unexpected.

This album is one of the all time best ever made. Have owned some sort of copy of it for over 50 years.

For me personally I have a vivid memory from about 50 years ago listening to this album on an 8-track tape cassette in my friends 1966 Impala!! The car was filled with smoke like Cheech and Chong because we were smoking weed and listening to David Bowie!! I don't think I will ever forget it!!❤

I was 12 when this came out.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩and had a box seat for a decade. I played Five Years from this LP a lot, at the start of the CV-19 pandemic, as it fitted the panicky zeitgeist at the time. Top tier talent. Art and versatility and a *GREAT* voice.

I stumbled upon a KZfaq video of Bowie and his band( year ❓ Performing where❓ with 4 backup singers) doing a COVER of " I Feel Free" by CREAM. WOW❗ He even plays Saxophone 🎷 at the end. He loved the song so much they would often perform the song as an ENCORE. His deep voice was like butter on this performance. If you are a Bowie fan...look this up. 🎵😊🎵😊

Being in high school in the 70's, there were a few special albums. This was one of them.

I had this album. See in my day you had your vinyls. The adults controlled tbe 3 station TV so youwere just up in your room learning these songs so you can sing them perfectly decades later!

A symphony in one short jam. Bowie was a genius.

The man knows how to make a record. And that’s not faint praise. Some artists can write and sing and play but have no particular talent for what to do in the studio to create the best recorded version of what they just wrote. (Bowie produced Lou Reed’s “Transformer” and you can clearly hear the Bowie touch.)

The voice is subjective, but he performed every word, and colored it with music.

A complete album sweep of this would be great. All are good tracks.

Yeah, good reaction guys! In junior high at fourteen years old I was a huge Bowie fan, along with Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, The Doors, Foghat, and quite a few others as well, And I still am! I turned 13 in October of 1977, great music is universal.

I was fortunate to be able to see Bowie play a festival in Germany back in 1987 when I was stationed over there in the Air Force. He put on an incredible show.

One of the most influential rock tunes in history. Right up there with Elvis' "HoundDog" , the Stones' "Satisfaction" and the Doobie Bros' 'What a Fool Believes".

The first music I ever received was the single for space oddity by Bowie. Mono on the Phillips label. So I took the whole journey as he sang it. We were poor then, so I always played the B side in those vinyl days, and there lurking on that first single was "the wild eyed boy from free cloud". I had no idea that you could do a song like that, and I was all in. Not just with Bowie either, it was a musical exploration. In an interview Bowie was asked what he attributed his success to. "I just got lucky with the songs" he replied. Humble. He was giving to his fans, whom he never took for granted. There is evidence on you tube of the end of a show where he invites those who remain to stay, and for a post encore he would perform and entire album for them. The fact that he would also explore music and innovate kept him relevant for his whole life. A unique song writer, a chameleon creating characters like Ziggy Stardust, the Thin Duke, Aladdin Sane et al, and a gifted musical voice. There was an occasional cover, "Sorrow" which had "Amsterdam" on the B side. He sings Sorrow with emotion, but Amsterdam is a performance. Listen to both to see what I mean. Pop, Jazz, Funk, and Rock (and Roll), were all accessed by Bowie, and though he's gone now, I still enjoy it all. A fine reaction guys. Hoping you and yours are, and remain well.

I looked but did not see Heroes as having been viewed by Bowie. I had the great experience of having seen him in his prime 8/1987. I highly recommend a live concert video of Heroes. I've attended concerts for most all of the greats, Bowie's set was as close to perfect as it can get. The audience was very much into the whole thing.

Hell of an album.

I’d agree 100% his vocals aren’t the strongest facet in his arsenal but, like you say - it fits. His voice works with his songs. Then you get performances like Young Americans and much of Aladdin Sane and it’s just banging! Perfect.

Sweet little Deep-cut banger from Bowie - "Bombers" - a catchy condemnation of nuclear weapons by the poet that is Bowie.

Bowie put songs and bands together like no other. He put out something like 28 studio albums, all different from each other. He created styles and culture and characters- some of which nearly killed him. But he always bounced back surprising everyone even his most ardent fans. Genius, legend, pioneer....and that is not overstating his achievements and place in history.

A Concept album. There's so much more to hear!
