In 2018, the British anthropologist David Graeber released a book on his theory of "Bullshit jobs": jobs that people themselves identified as pointless and unnecessary. The book was based off an earlier article he'd written for Strike magazine.
Responding to this earlier article, I wrote a piece that combined his theory of jobs with his theory about "Flying Cars": how technological progress did not lead to the outcomes we had initially expected. He enjoyed my article and we had a brief correspondence at the time.
Graeber passed away last year and will be sorely missed as someone who tried to understand where our society was heading, and the future we should be striving to avoid.
