I don't care how Mr. Williams died, I care how he lived. He was funny & generous & kind. He worked tirelessly with the charities he held dear to him. His films made me laugh, think and cry. There are unbelievable stories of the things he did for his friends: like helping Letterman out early in his career or being the one who finally made Christopher Reeves laugh after his horseback riding accident or snapping Spielberg out of his depressed state while he was directing Schindler's List. That's how I'll remember Robin Williams because that's how he deserves to be remembered. RIP, Captain My Captain.

It's 6/12/2023 and I've watched David Letterman's show(s) ever since he started performing. I'm now 74 years old now, dealing with a couple of health issues, including prostate cancer and a sort of early Alzheimers.. I've loved all of Dave's show and so miss Robin Williams in every thing he did, on TV and in movies. Thanks, KZfaq for offering posts such as this one.

Umm... if you're refering to Robin Williams, sure that's fair.. But David Letterman is a terrible, awful human. Please understand thiis.. He has harassed so many women. Many of whom were supposed to be protected by him, under his wing. Sexually violated Jennifer Anniston live on his show in front of millions of people. Harassed Lindsey Lohan. Violated child visitors and r***d his female staff members. Forced young male staff to show him their bodies. He is a terrible, horrible person. Why do any of you adore him? He is so, so awful. Even the laziest background Google searches would reveal to you how terrible he is. Please stop supporting this pedophilic, monstrous creep.

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Mr. Williams where he even did a little mini comedy bit at my expense (but it was worth it). We were at an exhibit of the amazing artist Yamagata I at an art store located at what was at the time the Sherman Oaks Galleria mall, circa 1984. I used to repair electronics for people and had a little flyer that I had with me (which I gave out as a business card) and I actually gave one to Robin Williams (thinking how cool it would be to repair electronics for this legend - remember I was very young). This was right around the time when his GREAT film "Moscow on the Hudson" had just come out and his costar, comedian/Actor Elya Baskin was also at the reception. Robin took my flyer and went up to Elya and pitched himself basically like I did, handing him the flyer asking if he might need any electronic repairs done in a very Robin-Williams high-energy way. Now looking back, I realize, as I write this, actually that I was part of an act by the great Robin Williams. I do remember a few people laughed including Elya 🙂

Crazy to think it's been over seven years now. You just don't know what pain others are going through, sometimes until it's too late. He was a beautiful, sweet, talented and hilarious human being who had too much to bear with behind all that. I lost a close friend and former supervisor three years ago this upcoming September to suicide. Like Robin, he was such a sweet guy but I never knew what he was struggling with until his passing. You just never know. Keep all the wonderful memories inside and know that someone who was hurting so badly is free from that hurt.

Well done David! There will only be one Robin Williams. He could use a pencil as a prop for a half hour and have you rolling on the floor laughing. Jim Carrey tries. The biggest differences between Robin and Jim is that Robin was genuine, cared about everyone he came in contact with, visited the troops, visited children hospitals, all without batting an eye. We were lucky to experience this comic genius. Thank you Robin for making us laugh while you suffered behind the scenes. What a guy!!

One of the really tough parts in this entire story is the fact that Lewy Body Dementia is only diagnosable post-mortem. Until some very bright people who have adequate funding and can develop the necessary diagnostic tools come along to turn that around, there are going to be more untimely deaths of otherwise healthy people. It really pains me to hear people say things like what Dave said at the very end. The hard truth is that no one could have known what Robin was going through. Other than trying to address and treat the symptoms (extreme depression, memory loss etc…), there is just no way to “cure” the disease at this time. Some day, that will no longer be the case.

Robin Williams is one of the few famous people I truly felt sad for their passing. I was a very young boy when M and M came out, so soe of the jokes were on the "old" side, but his antics were funny. "All of life is a coming home. All the restless hearts of the world, all trying to find a way home. It's hard to describe what I felt like then. Picture yourself walking for days in the driving snow; you don't even know you're walking in circles. The heaviness of your legs in the drifts, your shouts disappearing into the wind. How small you can feel, and how far away home can be. Home. The dictionary defines it as both a place of origin and a goal or destination. And the storm? The storm was all in my mind. Or as the poet Dante put it: In the middle of the journey of my life, I found myself in a dark wood, for I had lost the right path. Eventually I would find the right path, but in the most unlikely place." Robin Williams from 'Patch Adams' I hope you found your way home, friend... ♥️

Robin was one of only 4 comedians (that i know of) that had the RAREST ability to make you gasp for breath from laughing in one moment and have you sobbing a moment later. The 2nd one was the Greek comedy legend Thanasis Vegos (obviously i dont expect non-Greeks to know him, but he was the most universally beloved Greek actor ever), the 3rd one was Charlie Chaplin and the 4th one is Roberto Benigni. @@ronniestar8762 me too. Thats one of my biggest concerns is that mind would go. I've worked with older people who have had dementia or Alzheimers. And for Robin as brilliant as he was it had to be torture. I'm grateful we have his movies videos and can still laugh or cry whatever emotion he could inspire in us. 💙😢😤🤣🙏😊💙💙✌️

I so miss David Letterman. People like Dave make one wish that they would be young & live forever...same with Robin Williams, but his suicide was a shock though I think he knew why he was taking his own life. May God take Mr Williams into His keeping...

10 years...where has that time gone? A complete original. There never has been and probably never will be anyone like this guy. Could do a 1 1/2 hr concert and ad-lib the whole thing. Genius comic...

This is the best way to remember people. Sitting there, maybe rolling around on the floor, rolling around in total hysterics!!! That’s the way I hope I am remembered by people laughing!! Probably won’t be, but just the thought of this brings me a little happiness!!

A true genius. And, everything he did showed he was a good soul. A touching tribute. It should be added that Robin also worked tirelessly to entertain the troops and raise millions, along with Billy Crystal, for the needy. And like a true gentleman and man he never let on that he was suffering. He is sorely missed.

so much pain is in humor and vice versa. poor guy. i met him once at an open market in SF. We had two mutual friends and he was with one of them. The three of us spent a couple of hours together, walking around and getting food, etc. He was really a remarkable dude---

I had a good friend who ran a comedy open mic at a tiny coffee shop in San Francisco (The Marsh) and I would go support him. Often there would only be five or six people there, all fledgling stand ups except me, the only actual audience member. One night I went and nobody showed up. Just my friend and me. And Robin Williams. He asked if he could have some stage time and we were completely star struck. So of course! He proceeded to get on stage and talk to us for an hour, making jokes about our answers to his questions and putting on a master class of comedy. The next week he showed up again, this time with a person who recorded his routine. There were a few more people in the audience. The third week he showed up again (!) and by then the word had got out. He did an hour each time. Sadly he never came back. But he was so kind and above all else he was incredibly funny just riffing on me and and my buddy Mike being goofy kids sitting in front of him.
