This video just saved me from quitting training to become a countertenor. I sound just like the guy in this video and with similar problems only that i don't have a Vocal teacher who is as patient and experienced as David Lowe is. I just began singing 7 months ago (I just turned 18 and i use to have a female speaking and singing voice till i was 16 although the female speaking voice kicks in once in a while 😂) and it's really difficult most times to even find my countertenor voice and it most cases it's cracking (because it's weak and I'm scared or unsure of the quality of sound i produce) . Just like the boy in this video most people will say "use your male voice" but then what the voice teacher said in this video touched me deeply he said " you choose the voice that you feel most expressive in" and that's exactly how i feel when i use my falsetto/headvoice. Kudos to the young lad in this video i understand how difficult this was for him and I'm thankful that he had a wonderful teacher who is not only helping him in whichever way he (the young boy) chooses but is also encouraging him.

If I had the money to fly out to Denmark from the U.S., I would for sure visit this school in hopes that some of the vocal talent would rub off on an aspiring countertenor! Bravo!

Here on Latino-America there is a school called "Lantino-american vocal school" and is they bigest school for contretenors. It recives students from all along they world; Google it, it's director is Daniel Guzmán (and he is also a very famous ópera singer all along América)

That’s falsetto thou, I thought countertenor use mix voice or head voice

This is a confusing question you're asking. In classical training, non-chest voices for men are all falsetto. Going by this definition, countertenors do sing with their falsetto. The problem with this young man is the fact that it's airy. In my case, I can produce this sound with high larynx. To get a fuller sound that you hear from most well trained countertenors, I would have to drop my larynx. Hope my answer helps.

@Devon Hawkins-Anderson Hi! Thank you for sharing. I think I call what you’re describing a mixed voice, but I can’t be sure without hearing it, unfortunately. I posted my comment a long time ago, but I believe my actual point was the fact that the term falsetto is problematic at best. It’s used to mean different things by different people. That’s all.
