Why indeed? In fact, that price tag is to entice the Oprah Winfreys of the world. The David Lynch Foundation, your local TM center, and wealthy individuals, all conspire to lower the price through grants, scholarships and loans. Additionally, if you are in certain groups, such as students in low-income areas, American Indians on reservations, American Veterans with PTSD, former child-sex-works living in shelters, etc., the DLF works with existing organizations to offer TM instruction for free.

I agree with you, but regardless of that, this kind of thing should be FREE for everyone. If someone wants to pay to have a person visit you and give you all the support you might want, fine, but having to pay more than $1000 for it is absurd.

Indeed, a separate organization was trying to peddle transcendental meditation to me. There are local teachers scattered throughout towns across the country, to whom you pay hundreds of dollars to learn to meditate. Scam.

No, Chris, it's not greed it's the way the world works. How will TM centers pay their rent? No one gives it to them for free. No one makes any money on TM and there are grants and scholarships for people who can't afford the full tuition. Well, if you my dear friend is telling that meditation is something relate to, or made and experience with or by your brain, you have no idea what is meditation, you can experiment really nice feelings, playing with your brain...but that is not meditation. meditation is being, you must turn off your brain, and the awareness of being watching, that IS meditation.....simple and not easy of course. a guy call OSHO can explain it better...in books....

The TM organization is totally non-profit and teaches in 3rd world nations for free. In order to do this funds are needed. But no one is turned away for lack of funds. 1. Grants of $1000 are available for full-time students. 2. Scholarships of $1000 are available for non-students who have need. 3. Citi-Bank's CitiAssist program offers very low interest loans to anyone learning TM, with up to 15 years time to repay. 3. Many companies pay for all or part of the fee for their employees.

Just google "TM Course fee". It's there and it's real. And disappointing.

Done it since 1978 ,its a simple powerful mental technique to transcend the thoughts to the Absolute, The SELF ,your real identity, its beautiful, you are beautiful. Its not religious, no dogma but leads one to a spiritual experience of your true SELF. You are not the personal self at all, thats a fictional character, the story of me is just an idea, you are pure Consciousness and TM will take you there with no effort, Its very subtle and enjoyable, but you must practice every day then get on with your life to equalise the nervous system. I have tried other meditations inc SRF Kriya yoga, Kundalini and they were hard work that led nowhere for myself. I'm an Incubus fan UK and have no connection with the TM movement.
