Pavarotti was always my incomparable Opera favorite and this song in particular. However, Pavarotti's trained voice and ability NEVER gave me instant and thrilling goose-bumps like I experienced when hearing David Phelps God-given voice sing: "Nessun Dorma" for the first time! Astonishing and incredibly beautiful! Thank you, Brother! ❤️

Ok, I'm feeling very older sisterly over here.....y'all better stop with the insults/negative critique!!! David's God-given vocal tone and delivery style(s) are unique to him! He sounds like NO ONE ELSE---completely and wonderfully unduplicatable, so put that in your smipe and poke it!!!

How good is David? Only he can get away with pulling off this mix without being lambasted. Fantastic performance as usual. This guy could sing the phonebook and make it special!

Saw David perform this live. The venue was in our southern town of about 30,000 and most had never even heard opera much less an aria. He appeared with the Gaithersburg Vocal Band. The audience was mesmerized. I remember my mom was with me and she never having heard a performer sing on this level, began to cry and applaud.

I just noticed at the end (3:09), there is a woman in the audience with dark hair showing the goosebumps on her left arm to the woman next to her. In fairness, they are both members of the Gaither singing “family” ...if we get goosebumps listening to this on a web site, I can only imagine how it must have been in person. If you think about it, this is a great tribute to David Phelps’ talent...they have heard him dozens of times or more...concerts, recording sessions, practices, etc. And he still gives his peers goosebumps with his performance. Personally, this isn’t my favorite rendition of Nessun Dorma that he does, but still....

I’ve come across an interview of DP by Tony Cummings of Cross Rhythms way back 2013, and he was asked why this pop style interpretation of Puccini’s aria masterpiece. After all with his calibre he can excellently deliver the classical way as it should be performed and can stand at par with the classical greats for he is classically trained as a voice and performance grad from Baylor University. Yet being as an eclectic artist, when he told his voice teacher to record this particular song and didn’t want to compete with Pavarotti but instead do it in his special way, his teacher was quoted to say”great! do it the way you intend it to be”.That has become a permission to go all the way. According to him, he has a wide range of audience, not all are classically inclined, most don’t have knowledge about opera and what a way to share such beautiful piece, not necessarily as a classical entity but as a love song any ordinary listeners can relate to. We may not understand the lyrics for it is in italian, but the clarity, beauty and the passion of the voice are enough to make one find its meaning. The rest is history, he performed and recorded it and the response is just overwhelming. His audience and listeners love it to the moon and back. I myself can’t get enough of it, I could listen to it over and over again. Just AWESOME God-given voice that touches the heart and lifts up the soul.

I could just listen to this on a constant loop all day. God bless David Phelps and his God-given voice.

Every once in a while I go on a search for the new Pavarotti or better than Pavarotti binge watch. This guy sounds nice but he ain't no Pavarotti. I've found no one better, yet and I have been doing these all day searches at least twice a year since he passed away.
