I first heard We Shall Behold Him when the legendary Sandi Patty sang it in concert when I was just a kid. It was in the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas. It was such a cool vibe - in the round and on a rotating stage. It was a jaw-dropping moment for everyone in the room. I was immediately in love with her unparalleled talent and warm spirit. That’s why, when the songwriter, Dottie Rambo, asked me to record the song, it took me a while to come around to the idea. After a few years of mulling it over and a little prodding I eventually - and humbly - agreed. I gathered a group of incredible musicians at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville and, while I was doing some hand-wringing, explained the arrangement I had been working on. Everyone threw their ideas in and we finally ended up with a recording that I hope not only honors Dottie’s creation but also the indelible stamp that Sandi left on the song. The hope of one day seeing our savior face to face is what keeps us going as we journey through this troubled world. And not only does it comfort us concerning what happens after we take our final breath on this earth, but it gives meaning to our existence right now. This life is only Chapter 1 of your incredible story. Today, I hope your moments are filled with the joy of knowing that one day…the sky shall unfold…

I heard Sandi Patti sing this years ago and didn’t think anyone could sing it better until I just heard you sing it! God has truly anointed you in blessing us as you sing flawlessly and paint a heavenly picture. I believe your voice is what heaven sounds like. David, you’re simply the best!

Sometimes it is like that - the first person you hear sing a song is the one you think does the best. But you... you just knocked it out of the park!! Great job!! I've watched this clip many times, but tonight, the Holy Spirit showed me that he was there on that night. My guess is it's there whenever David sings. God loves music, and David Phelps is the best performer and has been for a long time.

On July 24,2015 my wonderful mom was called home to be in the presence of OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR!!! When I left the hospital in uncontrollable tears this is the first song I heard David Phelps sing. I thought that is exactly what my mom was doing. She was beholding him. Thank David Phelps for always being there for me in the sad times and the great times. David Phelps is the ONLY singer I listen to and it's every day on my phone, on my DVD player which I have over 50 dvd's of the Gaither Homecoming and of course David's dvd's. I listen to David Phelps in my car too. An I play him singing as loud as it possibly can be. One of your biggest fans in Central Pennsylvania

If I ever need a lift in my spirit, I just pull up this song by David. As a musician, composer and singer, I am stunned each time I listen to this. The first time I ever heard you sing was on the Gaither Homecoming and have loved you ever since. Dottie Rambo knew who she was writing songs about. She knew her Lord and Savior. I have only heard three soloists who sing this song the way Dottie Rambo meant for this song to be sung, you, Sandi Patti and a lady here in Lexington, KY, Elsie Speed, sings this song like you know that one day WE SHALL BEHOLD HIM...🙌🏾

Many times I've heard David sing different songs others sing. This one is as golden as it gets‼️🙏 God's wonderful choice giving David this magnificent voice to sing and give others a taste of glory is outstanding. Lol- that's called a cover song and is one of the biggest parts of the music industry!!! Silent Night, White Christmas, Amazing Grace - all done by thousands of artists. We Shall Behold Him has been done by hundreds of artists, I may sing it myself - - - in the shower heh heh.

If Sister Dottie was still with us, David, she'd be shouting PRAISE louder than any other voice! It's often said that Heaven has windows and balconies. If that is indeed true, Miss Dottie & Our Savior are watching! If there were tears in Heaven, Dottie would weep in humble adoration to Jesus! I thank God for blessing you with your powerful gift! Until we reach Glory, and behold our Savior, songs like this will help us!🙌Times are so hard on earth, even for the Saved. But when we EXPERIENCE songs like this, God motivates us to keep running the race, witnessing to others, and KEEP THE FAITH THAT WE CAN MAKE IT UNTIL HE CALLS US AND WE FINALLY BEHOLD HIM! David, my first memory of you singing was while watching Gaither Homecoming Hour on TV. You sang "The Lifeboat" with Sister Vestal! WOW!!! It became one of my favorite songs! Every word is true and anointed! And until the Lord gathers His jewels HOME🙌I am a fan! When we get to Glory, I want to sing with you & Vestal, and raise my voice to our Savior and sing a new song to Him!✝️ I have gradually lost my ability to sing, due to inflammation in my vocal cords from RA & other medical issues. But, that's OK because I know I'm going to sing for ETERNITY 🤗 God bless and keep you 🙏!

Beautifully done!!! Sandi Patty is who I first heard do this wondrous song--and excellently!!! David has a way of making every song he sings--his own. His love for his Savior comes through above all else. God gave him such an amazing gift in his voice and it transcends so many boundaries!!!! He has been blessed in communicating songs of faith to anyone listening and opening the way for the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of those listening!!! “Beyond stunning” Wonderful choice of words. “Incredible” is unimaginative and is in fact wrongly used. It means “not to be believed,” such as when Paul asked, “Why think ye it incredible that God should raise the dead” Billy Graham wrote a book called, “Our Incredible God.” Who knew he was an atheist? “Super” is also on the don’t use list, as are “cool” and “neat.” Here are some superlatives with meaning: exquisite, magnificent, marvelous, out of this world, other-worldly, superb, incomparable, stupendous and many, many more. David’s singing is all of those things. His voice and his performance are inimitably spectacular!

Love your reaction to David Phelps! I have been fortunate to see him in person and will be going to another concert in one month ( 3-2-23}. He is funny,charming and so sincere and sweet. There will be an enormously LONG Line of people who want to see him, take pictures have him sign something they have and whatever! After a 2 to 3 hour concert, he will still stand up and greet EVERY in line who wants something signed or take pictures! Just a truly sweet, easy going, calm, gentle and kind hearted person! I LOVE THIS MAN!! He does not drink a Coholic drinks and nd does not smoke either! I know no one is perfect down here, but I would say “He is close!!”

It sounds so lame, but I have no words. With all sincerity I say - Stunning! I wish I could have been there for that concert, but at the time I didn't even know who David was. Thank God I can see these videos. Besides David's voice, the strings and choir were perfect, too. All was just so superior.

Literally can not believe I got to see you sing live. I wish I could take classes from you so freaking bad. Praise be to the glory of god and his creations. Such as his children. I have literally had your music on none stop play for half a year now. I don’t listen to anyone else. There is no one else with the understanding of music that you have and no one else I would rather imitate/learn from.
