David Platt is such an underrated soap character. He has had so many "moments" over the years it's hard to list them all! 06/07 was definitely the peak of his teenage terror phase. He was so evil! (and all the more a compelling character because of it!). The Platt family feuds are enough for a spinoff series in their own right! 😃
@simonzonenblick395 Жыл бұрын
I find it very disappointing that he has ended up a sort of "everyman" and suppose its what happens when a character passes through the hands of many different teams of writers over the years. If he was a character in a film or series written by one person I think he would definitely have continued on his malevolent downward spiral. Then again I suppose it is quite realistic, as lots of people do go from being quite twisted and nasty when young, then slowly plateau out into normality. I knew loads of people in schooldays who were absolute terrors, but are now boringly ordinary. The original novel of A Clockwork Orange ends more or less this way - a vile character who goes through life hurting others who just gets bored of it and decides to become normal.

Jamie Vardy I’ve been watching Corrie since I was little, and I’d say 1999-2006 was it’s peak. I think it’s gotten quite tired since then. Jack P Shepherd, though, has remained a fantastic actor from the second he came into the street to the present.
@leicestercity22705 жыл бұрын
Corrie Platt Fan I agree with that. David is my favourite character ever on Corrie. He can do comedy but also serious storylines for example when Kylie died & Josh raped him etc. I love the Platt at the moment David & Shona are brilliant together. Loved David & Nick’s feud & now it will be Sarah & Nick’s feud. ++ you’ve still got the icons Gail & Audrey. The Platt family holiday & when Audrey got hit by that thing was very funny.

@julz3tt3 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. David got the sympathy and loving concern because of his suicide attempt and then everything was back to "He's my baby boy, my golden boy" he didn't poison Bethany, try to kill Jason, ruin Sarah's Wedding day.. have everyone turn on Sarah. Little asshole. Yeah he's a great actor and his character can be dead funny but he can dupe Gail and Audrey because they're dim and Jason isn't very Smart so he automatically feels sorry for David while he's hobbling on crutches that David put him in
@4wheal7 ай бұрын
@@julz3tt3David was never the golden boy that was Nick and its also clear that Gail will almost always take Sarah side over David as well. Like its clear he has always at the bottom of the lader when it comes to Gail and even his own father thats part of the reason he alwasy acts out as its the only way he gets attention. Sarah was the golden child who always got her way and couldn't do no wrong dispute the fact she got pregnant at 13 and was just as spiteful as David and even more spolied. Also David never posied Bethany or tried to kill Jason both of those were accidents caused by David that he clearly regretted and didn’t want anyone hurt.
@gracepuckey3090Ай бұрын
@@4whealyou have got to be joking, did you watch this compilation! David nearly killed his niece, tried to kill Jason and ruin Sarah's wedding and then plant texts to make it look like she was having an affair. That's not to mention threatening to kill his family, and David is just forgiven and everyone takes his side and Gail then throws Sarah out. I'm surprised Sarah waited as long as she did. If it was me, I'd of cut off all my family and ran away abraod a lot quicker.
@4whealАй бұрын
@@gracepuckey3090 Gail doesn't forgive David she constantly brings up his faults and sees him as a constant failure. The actual reason she takes him back is because she doesn't want to admit her own failures. Also, David never meant to hurt Bethany and hated himself for what happened and did try to kill himself during Sarah wedding. He only claimed he did it to ruin her wedding because of how she was acting. Gail reacted so negatively to Sarah because she had put her on a pedestal and was shocked that she could do something bad dispute the fact Sarah heralef is a terrible child.
@philipdalton1000s Жыл бұрын
That trick that Sarah played on David with those E's is just downright cruel, spiteful and despicable. She is a horrible person in my estimation. I know his actions almost led to the death of her daughter, but David was trying to reform himself and turn over a new leaf. Why couldn't she just support him in that instead of just continually rubbing salt in the wound?
@RosieOleanderDallinger11 ай бұрын
It’s so odd how people just excuse David continuously. He emotionally abused his own sister over and over again.
@NonBinaryGit11 ай бұрын
Sarah could be a cow sometimes. She's a bit stuck-up and snobbish, and looks down on people she doesn't understand and deems less than. She is a selfish bitch, wanting to be the centre of attention when a family crisis was happening - her brother has a lot of issues. It's annoying, the way the scriptwriters tried to make her "perfect" despite getting pregnant at 12 and having kids by 3 different people. Just because she's middle-class, doesn’t mean she's better than chavs; like most chavs of the female kind, she has no life goal other than to reproduce as much as possible.

I've watched David Platt over the years, and I *think* I've finally cracked it: the reason why David is the way he is. First is the obvious factor: age. David was only 12 when Richard Hillman drove him into the canal, so it likely affected him more than others (as opposed to Gail who was an adult, Sarah who was 16, and Beth who was 2 so she didn't really understand what was going on). But now here's my *theory* on how it all began: on 26 August 1991 (when David was only eight months old), Nick accidentally hit David really hard on the head with a cricket bat. That probably caused a personality change within David and likely made him much more susceptible to later traumas than other people. He became vile and dangerous as the years went on. All his later traumas were just the icing on the cake. It also explains how he "never felt better" after what he had gone through. At one point, David even tried to kill Macca after the trauma he had undergone. It also explains why David *still* has recurring nightmares of Richard Hillman driving him into the canal, despite it being so many years ago. I don't think this was even the writer's intention, and I know I may be reaching, but I roll with it because it makes the most sense. He is, in my opinion, the greatest and most interesting character in Corrie. It's indisputable for me.

it was mostly down to the richard hillman ordeal and his dad leaving straight after and starting a new family. then his mum got a new fella and his sister was occupied by jason, he felt ignored so he acted out for attention, or it was just because he was miffed about it. there’s no other reason, either that or David’s a plain old little shit.
