A really great and insightful interview. David's father, the late Jim Twohig must be proud. Jim was a great car affectionado from Mayfield Cork City Ireland. I remember meeting him with his Ford Model T, several times at vintage rallies. I have no doubts where David caught the car bug and great to see his outstanding success in his career.

Unbelievable story for someone from my own Uni. So inspirational. I currently drive a qashqai but I'm 100% getting a fancy-ass valet tomorrow : )

The Qashqai would be the perfect car in the NZ market if only we got the option of a Manual. The CVT transmissions are awful and the biggest let down for Nissan

The problem is more about how the CVT works as a concept. Japanese car manufacturers do love CVT for the compactness and the different flavours that it can offer on their relatively small cars, as well as roads that aren’t that high speed. But if you put CVT into other markets with faster flowing traffic, and short run ups to merge into highways, then CVT is a big no no

Here's my take: I bought a 2009 in 2019 with 154k on and now it's got 233. Yes I drop about 1k each year on repairs, but who doesn't. It's got so many new parts, it's practically new. 1.5d silver. There are aspects of the exterior design that I still find beautiful and remind me of the size practical reasons I bought it to begin with. Getting a valet tomorrow. Best of luck!

@geansai333 Hullo , How it goes ? Well. Is 2 years time, with the coming February , since I bought it. I'll have about 40.000 KM more Anyway I found it as an ..economic vehicle. The last 6-7 months, I have my air back light, on on a full time, flashing. Went wrong. Need to be change ,the part on the steering wheel.

As a USA viewer, every time I hear Renault and alliance mentioned together I flinch a little bit as that was one terrible car

The 1.5 diesel engine produced by renault is definitely not terrible, and one of the most successful engines of all time. I do think Renault still suffers a lot of the reputation it had when we were boys (that's a thing), but that's not just confined to renault I guess.

As a car lover the Cashcow, sorry Qashqai is a hideous car. It is completely devoid of performance, comfort, economy, design, tech, handling, or reliability. It literally is the Poundland white t-shirt of the car world. The cheapest plastics and cheapest metals, it gives the driver not even an ounce of pride or feel good. It is purely a disposable tool. You can guess the guys at Nissan talking. A "Hey lets have a crappy hatchback and stick long shocks on it!" B "Why?" A "We can sell it as a cross over and charge five or ten grand more for it!" B "Nobody would be stupid enough to fall for it!" And now we know there are enough people that do not care about performance or comfort or economy or design or tech or handling or reliability when purchasing a car.

Harsh. I agree in part, but remember there are a lot of people who don't give a shit what they drive, and just want it to be practical. Thumbs up in that regard. I'll spend the aesthetic cash I'm saving on a new floor. But that's just me.
