Thank you for this video. I already made a usb boot kali live but no option to save data. unfortunately many problems with kali linux in wsl2 so wait for the official gui release from microsoft. Have Kali linux running in the virtualbox and that works fine. But very happy with this kali linux usb boot with persistence. Thank you for your videos greetings from Amsterdam.

Seeing you've made this video, or if you do an update, it's nice to know I can send it to people I know so they can easily setup everything to carry Kali with them, as it's hard for me to just try to explain the steps off memory when I don't have the time to guide them through it, or they just want something they can easily watch and take at their own pace, as this does a *really* good job at covering everything that needs to be done!

-Great content. -I usually use the Linux GUI tools to create my installation images and live USBs. -But nowadays I am using a system called Ventoy that has for Windows it creates USB drive with persistence, but that is really cool because it creates a USB disk with MULTIPLAS Lives or Install USBs in a single USB disk with menu of choice. -Perfect for making a single USB with several different tools (Kali, Ubuntu, Mint, Disk partitioners, Rescue images, etc ...). -Thanks for the knowledge Professor David ... !!!

I use one of these a lot, when making IT house calls. I can boot it and quickly determine if the computer has a real hardware problem, or if windows is just simulating one. smartctl is awesome for looking at hard drives to see how many hours they've been on (lifetime) and if bad sectors have been detected, long before windows complains about it. Most people are in shock at how many hours. My record is something like 65,000 hours of on time in a PC used in a business, that was never turned off for 8 years. That's quite a lot. ;) The most amazing thing was that it was a WD Blue drive, generally not the most reliable hard drive made. Bootable live Linux is great for extracting customer files from a failing drive, without unnecessary io operations being performed.

Very good video. I've been booting Kali-persistence from USB for years. I see several help web pagers that use either Rufus or Win32diskimager. We should know the differences between how Rufus and Win32Diisk Imager partitions the USB drive. Win32 Disk Imager will make the entire partition read only and you cannot create a persistence partition. This new Rufus release has persistence option that makes this feature very easy. Before, I had to resize the primary partition to 4GB and add a second partition for persistence. I also edit grub.cfg and add nouveau-mode=0 (for Nvidia GPU) and add a timer to automatically boot persistence. set default=3 set timeout=2 I do not set USB as my primary boot drive. I press F12 (Boot options at boot logo) to select USB boot.

First of all, I would like to thank this very good understandable tutorial. My English is very pure (I'm better in Hungarian & German), yet I could understand about 90 % on first listen. Truth is that I tried to create persistent USB-drive earlier, but never successeeded. Perhaps it does not work with Linux Mint. No problem, it's time to beginn to know how Kali works. Thank You again Yorgos

Nice video! Thanks for it! One question: I noticed that when I opened the file explorer after this setup, the free space under the /home/Desktop, for instance, was of only 3.8 GiB not equivalent of the 32 GiB encrypted persistence partition that I have created. Should my home environment not have 32 GiB of free space? Thanks for the help in advance!
