David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

How very true. Bowie is amazing here, as just about always. It also helps that the project was directed by Julien Temple, the prolific music video director for the Sex Pistols, Judas Priest, Culture Club and so many other prominent artists.

+Kimberly Anderson Agreed! I was always astonished that this never seem to catch fire the way that say Michael Jackson's long-form Thriller video did. Though the short (song only) version of this video got some play in the day, this long version was quickly and unjustifiably forgotten. The performance was outstanding here. Showcases everything there is to love about Bowie - the acting, the music, the charm, the fashion. All in one showcase.

@jenniferschillig3768
@jenniferschillig3768 8 жыл бұрын
+Levine2001 Yep, I always felt David was underrated as an actor--just look at The Prestige. If I hadn't known going in that this was David Bowie playing Tesla, I wouldn't have recognized him--he disappeared into the role that perfectly. Then there was that run onstage as The Elephant Man (which, unfortunately, was never completely recorded), and this--where he's so convincing both as the rock star who's a parody of himself, and the awkward everyman. If he'd chosen to focus on acting and not singing, we might be mourning Sir David Bowie of the Royal Shakespeare Company, every bit as respected as Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

Holy crap this is amazing. I've seen long storytelling music videos before, but to see a pioneering one from the great David Bowie makes you see how he really had an impact in the music industry. He was so innovative! I loved both his characters. The awkward David was such a sweetheart, and Screaming Lord Byron was dazzling (but you also had a soft spot for him since you could see how troubled he was offstage). Then we had awkward David breaking the fourth wall and that bit just made me laugh. Bowie is a treasure.
@acidBONEZ
@acidBONEZ 10 ай бұрын
Not trying to argue but while Bowie did a lot of innovative shit I fail to see why this is one of them. This isn't even a longform music video, it's literally a short film with a extended music sequence that was later edited out to be used as a music video. This was also like '84 when Michael Nesmith did it 5 years before and did it bigger/better with his elephant video album.... ...he also kinda invented MTV but since the media tells everyone The Monkeees are a joke stuft like that gets ignored

I remember MTV playing this short film a few times. I haven't seen it in 30+ years. Thanks to David Bowie for providing a creative and diverse soundtrack to my life, to-date. Cheers and Rest In Peace!

The end of this video is ironically funny. I've always wonder who the girl is that David Bowie's character was chasing. RIP Thin White Duke. There is another star shining brightly in the heavens. Shine your electric eye on us.

I've only seen the video of Blue Jean where's he's just singing as the genie and now I know what the whole deal with him and the girl sitting at the table is all about, lol. This is great and a tad funny as well. Thank you for uploading it for us :)

I haven't seen this since the '80s, when MTV would show this regularly. Back when MTV was something you wanted to watch. I recalled this was bloody brilliant.

What a flood of memories! I recall the controversy when this came out - Bowie wanted music stations to pay to show the full video - MuchMusic in Canada refused! He gave in shortly after. Bloody hell I loved this!

Not just a musician but actor as well. To say David Bowie isn't talented is saying Bruce Lee can't fight or Michael Jordon can't slam dunk.
