This is the character that got me drawing ! I always loved Spawn by Todd Mc Farlane and i was obsessed by this style of drawing. I remember spending days and months and years drawing Spawn its so nice to see this drawing session.. reminds me that i should re-draw Spawn someday. Love all your drawings David, i always been a fan ever since i saw your art and i remember old marvel comic book that i used to own and you were in the spotlight with Marc Silvestri and the artist of Fathom ..Alex ross and many more of my fav artists i grew up watching in my books. I also remember Ascension the first time i saw that angel character i was blown away! I Would learn later that you were the artist and i guess i grew up with your style and ton more without even knowing it. So its thanks to you i been drawing for 30yrs now. Without knowing you forged my legend. So big thanks to you. Keep up the legendary work.

Watching david makes me really inspired in art, because especially in beggining of learning this hobby, i often want to drop it all and feel myself unskilled , but David says "C'mon... just get fun and learning shouldn't be painfull", then i take pencil again... Thank you David, you are cool.

That is so great to hear! It can be painful sometimes, and self doubt is a strong negative pull against all of us, but it really should be fun. And it's one lightbulb moment at a time, even small ones, that get us there. It's so easy to enjoy the journey when you relax and draw for the love of the craft.

I asked Jim Lee about his style. He did mention that he pretty much takes from everywhere. The most interesting part was how much CURRENT artists influenced him. On Action Comics 1000 he did a profile that struck me as very Marc Silvestri. He said, well, yeah. We kinda all influenced each other. It made sense, but looking back, he REALLY just took his influences from everywhere on what he thought looked cool and dynamic and incorporated it all. I was looking at some of his X-Men stuff--and you can even see Leifeld (for better or worse) in his work from that time period as well. Dude was just a sponge for influence. Truly amazing. As big of a fan as I was of the 80s and 90s comics, I really think Jim Lee found his stride somewhere in the HUSH era with DC. When he started doing washes in his work...he just took such an amazing leap as an artist imho.

I know this stream has nothing to do with hands but with David Finch's tutorial, I find that drawing Thing from the Addams Family is a perfect way for you to practice drawing hands since he's been cut off from the bottom part of the arm leading to the wrist soo if you want to practice finger gestures, how the wrist rotates, and the general form and movement of the hands, start with Thing
