Creality Sermoon V1 Pro: the good, the weird, and the ugly

Welcome to the Advanced Geekery project lab, where I’m testing 3D printers for your entertainment and edification. Today, we’ll be looking at the Creality Sermoon V1 Pro, an interesting new printer from 3D printing giant Creality.
My name is David Gewirtz and you’re watching the Advanced Geekery channel. In addition to testing 3D printers, we also explore maker and smart home technology, stress-test servers, fly drones, and regularly dive deep into advanced geekery for fun and profit.
Here’s how this review is going to work. Like with most 3D printers, the Sermoon V1 Pro has lot to like, but it also includes its fair share of head-scratchers and genuine annoyances. As I go through the review, I’ll be giving everything I like a Good, everything that’s just plain odd a rating of Weird, and everything that I just don’t like a point for Ugly. Think of Weird as a measure of “What were they thinking?” and Ugly as a measure of “Uh-oh, that’s bad.”

Thank you for sharing your experience, I bought it for me because it’s for beginners, as he said it’s really noisy when you keep it in your bedroom , also the company still living in 2005 with SD CARDS,USB and i have problem with the WIFI CANNOT CONNECT , it’s too damn slow imagine 18 hours for printing Spaceman only… ,but it’s strong structured ,If someone ask my opinion about it, I wouldn’t recommend it .

The handful of CR10 models we have had in the space had that same fan noise on their power supplies on startup.

Thanks for the through review. I ended up buying one and I did find that there is a network port inside the case which you can use to directly connect to the printer, avoiding the cloud or using sd cards, wish they'd put it on the outside. I'm now looking for something faster, larger print volume and quieter (if thats even possible).

Does this printer have an all metal hotend or can it be shaped for one.

No, and it's all very custom. There doesn't appear to be any modding possible, unlike the CR-10s.

I don't know I just can't see paying $500 to make plastic toys if a kid is really into legos then maybe if the quality is there to interface with the existing real legos the kid already has. Too much for too little.

@Floyd, I think you're being a bit more reductive than necessary. You can do a LOT more with a 3D printer (including this one) than make plastic toys for kids. Some vendors pitch their devices in that direction, which I think is a mistake. I've done a ton of work and home enhancement projects with 3D printers, and with the exception of my Yoda test print, haven't made any plastic toys. But don't sell this printer short. It does a lot right, and it is very much capable of producing useful prints, especially since it can print ABS for really robust objects and even flexible filaments.
