www.davidgodman.org I was asked by a Russian interviewer why Papaji was cremated rather than buried. In my response I outlined all the various factors that contributed to this decision..

Hello David, Thank you so much for all of these videos. The manner in which you share the stories and retell the many interactions Papaji had with others and the natural way in which he assisted others in direct seeing and experiencing as well as the numerous anecdotes are wonderful.

In Indian tradition , people are either cremated or buried according to his identification with the physical body, the sage doesn't need to be cremated because he has no more identification with the body and so after death it will be very easy for his subtle body (mind-intellect) to be absorbed to the source. In case of a householder with his market place mind-intellect, he will be cremated so that the subtle body doesn't try to get back into the body since there is no other plane to satisfy their tendencies.

Hey David I was trying to figure out how to message you. Anyway you expressed some doubts towards Mooji in a sort of non-direct way but i felt it was implied. I guess my question is what leads you to skepticism about Mooji? Is he really implying he is teaching "for" Papaji? I don't necessarily see him doing that.. Is he really playing up the lineage idea? Or is he just holding up Papaji as his master... Also with the charging money thing. Is that really an issue? I thought that could only be called "bad" if there was an attachment to the money.. Isn't it meaningless whether money is involved as that's only the superficial layer anyway? Thanks

In India there used to be a tradition where students renounce everything in quest to find their teacher, they never take ladoos (indian sweet meat) or money with them, but only neem twigs so that master could brush his teeth. This is the kind of reverence that students had because they know that he doesn't need anything else.

Indian spirituality in its purest form is ever based on the Upanishads and they never teach to eat human flesh to make you aware of the higher consciousness, infact they condemn even the idea of having the sense of doership- that is - they ask how can a finite action bring about an infinite result? No teacher however enlightened he may be is not good enough if he cannot direct the seeker to the right path, that is self-enquiry, self-effort.

The word Satsang means being attached to the Sat (Existence) or the higher self and doesn't mean sitting near your teacher.

I guess David didn't answer. I'll put in my two cents. First of all Papaji isn't even teaching "for" Ramana. (there was no lineage, and Papaji infamously broke with Ramana on effort) Ramanashram itself have ZERO Papaji books... not one. Mooji is "playing up the lineage idea" to ridiculous lengths. Listen to this from his “Vaster than space” book: “Mooji is a direct disciple in the lineage of Advaita Vedanta master Sri H.W.L. Poonja and the great sage Sri Ramana Maharshi.” The joke is Poonja is not an "Advaita Vedanta master", he is the undisputed father of "do nothing" Neo Advaita. He began "teaching" when he had not even read the classic Advaita Vedanta scriptures.

Morning is a filthy rich false prophet, cashing in on some superficial knowledge he has. Lacking any charisma and profound knowledge. Just like Sadhguru. Cheap fake impostors building wealth.

everyone listen up and send some compassion david's way. Why? Because here he is---having close association with the top spiritual masters of all time (well....sort of) and of course having all of us seekers so jealous of that fact and what if---just What If? david is not enlightened. What if david has vrittis coming out of his ears? What if david still is seeking and asking "who the hell am i?" Just saying! HA!.....C'mon folks---humor is one of the keys...my favorite....and there is just too much seriousness out there on the path up and down the mountain! Love you david and keep on keeping on. damudra

All joking aside, it’s a serious question for David if he could answer. I was with someone who claimed he had Papaji’s ashes and recently wrote David about this experience but I forgot to ask him was that even possible? Here is hoping David will respond.

Why keep papaji's ashes. I am not the body. The body got burnt. It means nothing. Many still don't understand yet doing meaningless things

Most people who are regarded as being Hindu saints during their lifetime are buried when they die, after which a samadhi shrine is erected over their remains. However, there are different traditions and regional variations in India. Nisargadatta Maharshi was cremated, Ramana Maharshi was buried.
