No no. This is the real Finnick. Before this, he's had to keep up a front and the movies do go into why that is.

He was a sex slave with the threat of death to everyone he loves if he didn't go along. He was only 14 when he was forced into that life. How do you think you would be mentally after a decade of that.
@clover2739

I don’t know if you picked up on what Finnick was saying during his propo but what he went through was really messed up, of course what the capitol does is already messed up but the fact that they prostitute attractive victors is even more sick. It’s worse because Finnick was treated the worse this way and he was also the youngest victor at 14 as well… and the people who would ‘buy’ him were rich adults. The movie had it in the background but in the book it was a big thing that everyone paid attention to every word. Haymitch actually got mad at Plutarch for even suggesting for finnick to tell everyone if he isn’t comfortable and told Finnick he doesn’t need to. When Katniss hears this she feels sick and feels terrible about how she judged Finnick at the beginning, what you’re seeing now is his true personality. His arrogance and flirty nature is the act he needs to put on because he needs to keep up that image and when Katniss made fun of his outfit that was just a net tied around him but he was basically naked otherwise she realised they were doing that to ‘show him off’ since the captiol see him as a toy. The reason why finnick seems to weak here is because he does everything he can to protect people he loves, which is why he did what the capitol told him to and the fact he lost mags who basically raised him and that he found out the person he loves Annie was taken hostage that completely broke him down. He was affected badly mentally and very delirious in the book so he was often in hospital and they wouldn’t let him do much, he was always crying or completely out of it to the point that you’d have to speak multiple times for him to hear and understand what was being said. I think the book shows his and katniss’ friendship better because he’s the only one who understands what she’s going through because katniss was also very delirious and in hospital a lot as well.

Yesss!!!! Thank you for including this in the comments, @Clover. That was an editing "Sophie's Choice moment" for me.. due to copyright and only being able to include so much footage from the movie, I basically had to include either that part about the prostitution OR the part about Snow poisoning, but not both. I went with poisoning, but I'm glad you mentioned this and gave me a chance to comment back about it. Thank you thank you

One thing that the movies did so well here though was that they had two - not really hints, more like references to this before, that many reactors picked up upon but didn't really know what to make of at first. Those were the guy touching Katniss' shoulder at the party at Snows mansion, and then Johanna saying she had noone left to lose. Then when Finnick gives his speech, it is so much more powerful when you connect the dots to those former scenes, when you realize now that Katniss was being evaluated by some potential 'customer', and that of course Johanna had been punished for not playing along. This whole business of prostituting children (because of course all victors are under 18, even though Finnick was the youngest ever) is so very extra sick and disgusting, but from a movie watching perspective it was dealt with brilliantly.

Finnick is the best character, followed closely by Haymitch. I had something bad happen to me a few years ago, really bad. And every time I wanted to just give up, I would remember what he tells Katniss, about how it takes longer to put yourself back together than it does to fall apart, and I would get up one more time, I would take one more step, no matter how much it hurt. I cried my eyes out when I read the book. I cried so much I had to stop for a while. Sam protrays him so perfectly. He did an Amazing job as Finnick

Plus she tells him at least once, but I think in the books it's several times, that she is not interested in a romantic relationship right now. That she can't, what with all the trauma, plus all the acting in love she's had to do, and several games, etc etc. Gale wants her to make a choice she wasn't free to make after the games, and she can't even think about with a war and everything she's going through at the moment.

It's worth mentioning that Katniss isn't intentionally stringing Gale along with the whole romance thing. She's really not good at understanding her own feelings, so it's more of a matter of internal conflict rather than an intentional act of malice. Hell, she was in straight-up denial about her feelings for Peeta in least the first two books.

In the books, it said that the Capitol and District 13 had kind of a mutual agreement for cease-fire, but the Capitol sealed off the border and kept the propaganda going to the other Districts that District 13 had been wiped out. Also in the books, you didn't see Effie again until the end of the Mockingjay 2, but the author liked Elizabeth Banks' portrayal of Effie so much, she requested having Effie in District 13. Jennifer Lawrence said that she had to sing that Hanging Tree song for so many takes that she was sick of it by the end of the day. Jennifer also said that she and Josh Hutcherson were laughing and having a blast throwing each other around during that scene where Peeta was trying to kill Katniss.

One thing that isn't really mentioned so much in the movie and is explained more in the books, is that Finnick has been prostituted out to the richer members of the Capitol. If you remember from the last movie, Katniss asks how people pay for his 'pleasure' to which he responds with 'secrets.' He figures that if they're going to use his body, he's gonna get as much dirt on them as he can. That's how he knows about Snow and the poison. In addition, he deals with a lot of anxiety attacks in the book. There's a quote from Finnick in Mockingjay that I love, but I don't remember if it made it into the movie or not: "It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart.” All the bravado from Catching Fire is a front that he puts on, not only for his own protection, but for Anni's as well, because she suffers severe PTSD from her time in the games. His words on Caesar's stage were directed to Anni. Mags also volunteered to take Anni's place in the Quarter Quell to spare both Anni and Finnick.

Finnick and Katniss developed a friendship that I loved. There were many Finnick moments we didn't get in the movies (for those who know: Finnick in his underwear). He started to replace Gale in terms of who she leaned on for emotional support, and sometimes the movies don't show just how annoying Gale can get at times. He was even jealous of Finnick, which honestly made me mad (as well as Katniss). My favorite Finnick-Katniss interaction in the books was when he gave her his rope. He was a mess and always in and out of the hospital for his mental state, so they gave him a rope. District 4 is known for its fishing, so Finnick can tie many complex knots, and they felt it would keep his hands and mind busy. At one point (I believe in the bunker), Finnick gives Katniss his little piece of rope because she was worried about Peeta, and he thought she needed it more than he did. I always tear up reading that part because it was just so wholesome, and she recognizes he was the only one at that point who truly understood what she was going through.

She doesn't string Gail along. She feels guilty that she doesn't feel like that for him, but she feels she should reciprocate. In last part one can see why Gail is in the end not good for her, as he's the same if not more angry as her. Peeta is strength, and sunshine and her bedrock.

I love that Jennifer Lawrence is such an amazing actress, but also did well in “bad acting” for the propos. Also, the thing with her and Gale is like she feels she should be with Gale because he has been her best friend and he’s handsome, while she’s been thrown together with Peta and so attempts to ignore her feelings for him thinking they’re fake. I think the book does a great job in showing this, but I’m glad to see that it translates similarly in the film to those who haven’t read the books, so far. I understand the Gale shippers, but Peta will always make the most sense to me.

Here's the thing with Katniss and her relationship to Peeta and Gale. I think it's made more clear in the books but yes she has feelings for both. But there's so much else going on that 'picking' one isn't a priority. She doesn't have the time or energy to really sort through her feelings right now. She really has more important things on her mind. But Katniss will seek comfort where it is available. She's going through a lot right now. Gale is there, Peeta is not. And Gale knows her well enough to realize that she hasn't 'chosen' him, she just needs someone to lean on.
@AnnekeOosterink
@AnnekeOosterink Жыл бұрын
She's also told Gale at least once that with the hungergames she's really not interested in romantic relationships at all (that's before she's even picked), after the games she doesn't have the option to even choose, she must be very in love with Peeta and what she actually feels is irrelevant, and now she's still dealing with the many many traumas and ongoing trauma and war that's going on. I get her, she doesn't have the space and energy to sort her feelings, and yeah, totally valid tbh.

Hey David! Hey Marc! Finally, this is just the beginning of the end!!! I'm waiting for your reactions to the Part 2, to me is the most intense and heartbreaking movie of the entire saga, hope you enjoy it a lot!! Just a fact: District 13, was in charge of nuclear technology (and mining graphite, to public knowledge), so at the First Rebellion, they supported the rebels, and at the end they threatened to attack the Capitol with nukes, so they negotiated a peace treaty: By allowing District 13 to quietly secede from Panem and become an independent state, the citizens would withdraw all support for the rebels in the other districts and pretend to have been completely destroyed. So, the Capitol always knew about District 13, but they kept it a secret. PS: FIRST!!🥇

This movie gets flack because it’s really hard to follow Catching Fire 🔥 “I’d hate to follow that act!”-Drop Dead Gorgeous- But, it’s one of my favorites. For a book it was awesome to explore a whole new setting/world of district 13. For the movie they added so many scenes you dont actually get to “see” because the book is written in first person. I loved seeing the actual rebellion of other districts. And learning Finnick’s background when he did the propos solidified him as one of my favorite characters ever. To image the capital used him as a sex slave🤯 Then the end with Peeta. 😭 He told Katniss from the very first games that he didn’t want the Capital to change him and make him something he’s not. This movie/book series turns very political. It was always political, but it was covered up with survival in the games. Now it’s just “moves and counter moves”. Very political. I understand why the mockingjay movies might be less than what some people were hoping for but the progression makes sense to me (as an adult). I was in my early 20s when these books came out, still in college.. so my mindset was still fairly immature (i realize in ny advanced age how stupid and smug i was!). I didn’t lobe the mockingjay book as much as the first two.. at first. I had to grow up and think about it a but before i realized how amazingly well it was written. I can’t imagine that writing a complex, realistic portrayal of political machinations for teens is easy. And it is done so well. The transition of tyranny to all out persecution to kinetic war is very well done and seems a logical escalation.

"I can’t imagine that writing a complex, realistic portrayal of political machinations /*for teens*/ is easy." So as someone who works in a bookstore, I'm going to share a little known fact. 'Children's books' are the only books written for target *age* demographics. HOWEVER, 'Teen' and "Young Adult' books are not neccesarily written *for* that target age demographic. They are written *about* that age demographic. In much the same way 'Mystery books' are about a mystery, and 'Romance books' are about a romance; 'Teen books' are *about* teens; and 'Young Adult books' are *about* young adults. And why that is, is essentially about reading comprehension level.

7:59 I know it was a joke but the real reason is because the mom is heavily traumatized by the death of her husband. After he died, she basically never spoke again or tried to take care of her daughters. Katniss is really angry with her mom because of this and they don't have a good relationship

Finnick said he couldn't move to go for Peeta and Johanna bc he was just like Katniss then (she couldn't move either, she even was barely conscious when they picked her up) but then after some treatment she wakes up in the ship and walks around and even screams and tries to fight Haymitch, that's way more than Finnick just standing there in the table. Then, in that scene he was in the bed hospital all destroyed bc, again, he's just as Katniss, his mental health is completely bad and he can't even sleep so he needs medical attention and medicines.

People might have already told you or you might have already look it up but Katnis and Finnick condition is alot worse than what is shown in the movie. We get the scene of how ptsd and depresseing affect katnis and him but in the book, you almost kind of choked when you read them.. But this movie is still done really good, tho. I agree that catching fire is still the best out of all films in this franchise but i personally love the first part of mockingjay the best. Also, would you guys like to consider to react to korean movie? I will not recommend you 'train to busan' or 'parasite' since all people have done this. But please react to 'The Battleship Island' instead. This movie was set by the time around wprld war II. You'll see from history that Korea was colonized by Japan. And this movie is about a korean spy who was sent to Japan to rescue a korean figure who was jailed in isolated island in Japan, where korean people was forced to work in slavery to mine oil in the dept of the sea. I don't think i can say much about this movie since i'm afraid to spoil you. It was a really good movie, i notice that you guys love this type of movie and you might like it too since this movie is really entertaining and always keep you on edge from your seat. Nice reaction as always. Just a note: there wasn't a hunger games in this one because this was split in two. That's what I hate about all these recent final movies split in two: they mess with the rhythm of a series. For example, in harry potter they are at the school in every movie except 7 part 1, because 7 was split in two. So movie 7 feels weird until we get to movie 8 and finally see them back at the school. Same here with hunger games. There is indeed a hunger games in each book, but we won't get to see it until the last half as always, which means movie 4. I won't spoil what this hunger games will be, but you will see. Anyways, there's my rant about this recent 2010s trend of splitting final movies into two uneven pieces. Twilight deals with it as well. And yes, that often means we get a slower paced setup movie, followed by a faster paced payoff. That also makes these movie series’ feel uneven.
@tmm4195
@tmm4195 Жыл бұрын
I agree with Twilight not needing to be split, but I think it was necessary for Hunger Games and Harry Potter. I don't feel like Mockingjay could've been done in one movie. I honestly feel like this series needed a slower paced movie to see all the trauma people in war experience. Plus, it's nice to see behind the scenes and propaganda that take place for war rather than just seeing the war. Like people hate on this movie, but it's necessary for the story and I never felt bored watching part 1. I just feel like it would've been too long of a movie to make the mockingjay book into one movie without it feeling rushed. Especially with the whole Peeta situation.

Finnick was in the hospital more for a mental breakdown - he knew the capital was torturing annie and pita and joanna. Thats why he said he wished they were dead...it would have been more merciful. Youll get it when you see pita!! Finnack was forced to play a part just lije katniss was forced to be juliet to pitas romeo. Finnick was the pretty playboy who was leathal but cared about nothing. But we see thats not true in his relationship with mags. In his keeping pita alive to keep katniss close so they could get her out. But hes kind of broken at this point. Then we realuze its even worse than we know when he does his tell all promo. Turns out the capital pimped out the victors, especially the young and desireable ones and if you caused trouble they killed your family. Pita and katniss just hadnt got that far yet. But poor finnick was only 14 when he won and he was very popular and he had to play the part of the playboy to protect mags and his true love annie. And poor katniss - dad died in a cave in - child of a miner - trapoed underground during bombing!!
