Revelation Song offers a glimpse into the throne room of heaven and the ceaseless worship of the angels and saints. The song has such a deceptively simple structure - just the same 4 chords repeating over and over. But within that structure is so much room for experimentation, wonder and surprise. I can't think of a better way to worship the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever but whose mercies are new every morning!
Virtual Choir #12 is a joint effort of 120 singers and ASL signers from 29 countries. In there you'll find kindergartners, great-grandparents, and everything in between! I'm so grateful for the chance to work with such a fantastic (and diverse) musical community over the last 5 years. Thanks to the newcomers and veterans alike!
Joining us on cello is 16-year-old Elijah de la Motte. Elijah is a pre-college student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and appeared on America's Got Talent. He's #3 in a musical family of 10 kids (and very busy mom and dad). I wrote 24 loops of 4 bars each for Elijah to record, with nothing but a metronome as a guide. I was able to mix and match these 24 loops to create the highs and lows that give the performance its shape (and breaks through all the repetition). I hope you were as blown away by Elijah's passionate performance as I was!

David, This is an inspired arrangement which has brought the song to life :) This is not an easy song to arrange as the repetitive chord structure can result in a very monotonous 5 minutes, yet you have managed to create musical interest, build up a climax and hold the audience's attention to the end. Appreciate your efforts and that of the choir, ASL signers and Elijah. May this song inspire the worship of people from every nation, tongue and tribe! :)

"This choir, robed in white, is just a foretaste of what it will be like to sing with brothers and sisters from every tribe, tongue, and nation as we worship the lamb who was slain" AMEN, I think of your words when I listen to these songs. Can't tell you enough how much I appreciate what you do. Our lives down here help prepare us for eternity up there, praising our Lord and Savior. What amazing music you and others are able to produce, I can't imagine what new songs we will learn when we reach our heavenly home with our new, perfect bodies all able to sing as beautifully as you and your choir. I love that in sign language you usually have to spell out names with the letters, but there is a sign Name for Jesus by itself.

Actually, people do have shorthand names in ASL, but you generally spell it out the first time you meet. I was given an ASL name which combines the letter D with the sign for singing.

I’ve sung in one of your projects (would’ve done more, but somehow there are often scheduling conflicts 😏) and have followed all the rest, but THIS is my favorite, so far. I’ve always loved the song, but your arrangement is quite stellar. That, coupled with Elijah’s amazing virtuosity (I’m a former cellist myself), makes this piece “soar to the heavens!” Thank you for this Easter gift, David!

This is a masterpiece. Including Pablo Casals, I have never heard cello this beautiful. The composition is a masterpiece--the Lamb is worthy of this. This is most remarkable quality of choir I've heard on any of David's efforts. I had no idea he was a composer with this degree of talent. But it's not showy, it's sincere. Tears in my eyes and hand lifted to heaven. May God continue to bless you as you serve him in this way. I'm running out of adjective to try to communicate how good this particular production is. Wish radio stations would pick this up--many would be blessed. All glory to the Father, who created us to be able to sing, play, and compose, and invent technology to do things like virtual choirs. Also, shout-out to whoever did the editing of the video. Wow. To Him who sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb, be glory, and honor, and power, and praise and thannksgving--for ever. Amen

What I find interesting about this video, that though right now it is beneficial to have a sign language interpreter, one won't be needed in Heaven.

Do you remember a song from some years ago that was another absolutely beautiful song...I cannot find it anywhere....I can remember the refrain...they sang King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Forever!" And it seems like it began with a lyric that included the phrase "whispering wind" or some thing like that... Revelation Song reminds me of it: majestic, lifting up the greatness of the Lord. I think it was the one and only hit song of the group that did it. I wish you or somebody could find that song!

I’ve long known of this song, where the lyrics come from, and where they will one day be sung anew. But in all this time I’ve never heard it sung with so many voices, and I wept for the longing of that day. The wonderful, glorious thing about the songs our generation writes out of lyrics from scripture, is that other generations will be doing the same, and have been for thousands of years. How many other Revelation Songs will there be? I wonder what new versions I will learn. I wonder if I will get to teach this one to someone from the past or future. I wonder which one, if any, John himself heard.
