This is a fairly beginner friendly explanation on how to simply midi clock/sync external synths and an audio interface with the MPC Live 2 in standalone mode. Its purely to help if anyone is trying to do a similar thing. I've only had the MPC a few days, so just scratching the surface with the routing possibilities, but as a basic setup - I'm really enjoying it.

Yooo!!!! AWESOME BRO!!!!! I'm looking for videos that show external synth USB MIDI connections for MPC X (same functions as yours, I also have the Live 1st Edition) , But I'm looking for someone who used Bank LSB/MSB options with the Program Change features as well...I Loved that track tho!!! Thanks for sharing! I did learn about those additional screens and functionality you were using... I appreciate You! #Salute

Im trying to connect three synths to the mpc live. BUT, I wamt to use each synth as its own controller. In otherwords, play each synths keybed and knobs and have the mpc play all three synths back. But I dont want to use midi thru, because i dont want to use one synth as a controller, i wamt to play each synth and overdub each synth at a time. So mpc i program drums and percussion And each synth I can play and record into the mpc. Then play it all back. Is this possible?

I am looking for the same kind of configuration, i would MPC midi seq could control 4 synths at the same times separately without midi through. Maybe using usb / Midi as others 2 midi out? In this video usb/midi is a specific connection that is read by minifreak. I didn't understand if we could use usb out / midi in to a synth with just midi in/out.

I own an MPC one with multiple external synths. Sounds like you want to play each synths own keybed (notes), then you want the MPC to receive those notes and record them on a track. Once the bar repeats, the MPC plays back your notes, you stop playing yourself or go overdub some new notes? Correct? It’s MIDI into the MPC in that case. Create 3 MIDI tracks. Select your synths MIDI channel inside the MPC MIDI track an hit record. You can play your synth, the MPC will record notes. BUT the key is, where is your audio going to? This video shows an audio interface that sends the Audio i back into the Mpc. On audio tracks. So you turn your MPC into an audio mixer as well. I don’t, I Connect each synths audio Out into an external mixer. So my MPC use is only MIDI notes and start stop for the synths. I personally choose to control my synths with the MPC keypads, to get more creative outcomes (note repeats, chords, grid offsets, random rhythms etc) m With USB you can go both ways I guess. But synth needs to be USB equipped. 🌪️👍 hope this helps! 12 Month ago I was clueless myself…

@@TheStaubzauger The problem is, I need THREE midi outs and THREE MIDI ins for that configuration I mentioned. And Mpc Live doesn't have three.. Yes, I also use an analog external mixer. But I just want to play each of my keybeds and record into the sampler a couple bars and then go to the other keyboard and do the same. And then go to the other keyboard and do the same. Seems like such an easier way to write a song, if I can figure out how to hook it all up.

Would you say the live 2 and an 88 key midi keyboard would be a better setup than just a 88 key digital piano? I want something I can play like a piano but also have access to a lot more sounds than a digital piano can provide.

Is there a specific reason to chose the MPC as the master clock?

mint setup, i am looking at an mpc to do the same.. the bit i don't quite follow is the routing of the audio to the mpc.. what interface do you use and how is it connected and how many audio channels do you get control of going in to the mpc.. if you don't mind me asking.. currently i have a virus ti2, digitakt, digitone, peak and a Yamaha rm1x i was hoping to go dawless with .. cheers

Thanks! No worries - I don’t mind at all. For the dawless video I did, I use a Motu 828es interface connected to the Mpc. That then gives me access to the Motu i/o and the Mpc then uses that as its interface rather than its own internal one. The external interface also needs to be set to 44.1khz and 128 buffer - but apparently not all work. I’ve also tried a powered usb hub in the back of the Mpc and connected my synths via usb for midi control which the Mpc automatically recognises. I’m really quite impressed by it. In terms of channels - in standalone and using audio tracks in the Mpc (not drum programmes triggering audio samples - but recording audio into a channel) I believe it’s a max of 8 inputs via an external interface. So when I added my Motu, I could choose an audio track and have say input 6, which my drum machine is connected to, have its own channel on the Mpc. Then another audio track have for example inputs 3 and 4 which my pro 3 is connected to, also have its own channel. You can also arm all channels and have them record to separate tracks at the same time. I haven’t used this feature as much as I thought I would, as I’m generally hooked up to Ableton and do a bit of a hybrid type setup. So I tend to use the Mpc stand-alone with its own interface, but triggered by the Digitakt and then my synths and the Digitakt using the Motu via Ableton. Hope that helps in some way! This video by Akai helps explain it a bit too: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJ-UZcl4rtqsY3U.html Feel free to ask though

@@JohnnyCrump wow, that just bows me away, just watched the video and this makes the mpc defiantly the next item on the list to get.. i currently have a Scarlett 18/20 so make sense to go this route. thank you so much you have filled in so many gaps.. as I was looking at the mpc-x and older ones as I wanted to get 8 outs of the mpc but now i can use the mpc live 2 ( which looks a beast ) .. mint.. thanx \o/
