Im from West Philly. When I was younger I wanted to play basketball. My mother wouldn't let me because she was scared I may become a"lesbian"🤦🏾‍♀️. But she knew I loved Dawn, so when Dawn had a basketball camp at the Browns rec center in North Philly she let me go and O.M.G I had an amazing time. Dawn worked with me on all my moves. Till this day I have a better jump shot than all 3 of my sons and my husband! I'm so proud of her, just an amazing person 💗

But Dawn was more facilitator, A.I. more scorer. You could argue Dawn was exactly what you look for in a PG while A.I. was a two in a one’s body.

Dawn Staley is one of the baddest women's basketball players to do it. Sheryl Swoopes and Lisa Leslie got a lot of attention during her time. I never understood why she didnt get the recognition they did. She's like AI or Gary Payton on the court. She played with guys growing up. She had mad handles in the 90s. Untouchable. I always wondered what happened to her. I am so glad she found success in her sport as a coach. So happy she is getting her flowers now. 💐 👏👏

Congratulations Coach Staley…One of my heroes and I’m a few years older than her..Folks forget that Dawn was a playground Philly legend who played in the parks with Hank Gathers. Correction!! Coach Staley is the first two time NCAA D1 black coach. Legendary Coach John McClendon the man who learned from James Naismith..Mentored the likes of Clarence Big House Gaines and Dean Smith..he won three straight national titles in the NAIA. The first coach to do this. Dawn Staley is an inspiration to both me as coach and many others. I love it that she built a new basketball powerhouse in South Carolina and didn’t go to a traditional power to build on their successes. Continued success and blessings to both her and the Gamecocks.

I played 2 whole games in Dawn’s league here in Philly. Basketball wasn’t my thing but I remember wanting to go into sports therapy after seeing her and the Temple U women’s team

She is brilliant, that's why! Every person in Philly that I have ever asked about her says that she is phenomenal! Love watching her team and the love they have for her and each other!♥

My All Time favorite WNBA player is Cynthia Cooper BUT Dawn Staley is a cold piece of work - I’m so happy to be able to witness all her success as a coach!
