Nice to not start off frozen. I will be welcoming cool starts, since I won't hit Springer until May. I will be dealing with heat, bugs, very active bears, and a snake or two for sure. If you think of your thruhike as a series of section hikes, you won't find it so daunting (or, so I've been told, since I am a section hiker 😊). Nice pizza! 👍

I love following your journey. I watch every morning while I eat my breakfast. I live in WA state so have no plans to do the AT. So it is fun to see what it is like. Shelters are not something I am used to. Am sectioning the PCT this summer in WA. Keep posting your videos and can not wait to see you in Maine!

I was so disappointed when the lockdowns took you off trail and in a bittersweet way, also relieved because we knew so little about the disease and there weren't any precautions to eliminate; Safety First while on trail. These days we know a little more and take the appropriate precautions. And now, you'll be beginning a whole new journey with new sights and terrain. Happy Trails!

I agree- Hot Springs is neat - don't know if you got a Fresh Ground meal - he went from there back to Max Patch then skipped ahead to Allen Gap which should be about the time you pass by there on the way up Viking Mountain and the absolutely section of Black Stack Cliffs - the trail builders did an amazing job through there - absolutely gorgeous rock work.

Are you eating enough fresh fruit? Make sure you include some oranges and apples as your snacks.

Awesome video, question how is the zpaks rain gear ??? Thinking about buying but wanted to make sure it was worth it.

I like Hot Springs, in fact it was my first trail head heading north in 1995, my first experience with the AT. I really like Damascus, Va. Even better. It's a bit closer to my home in central NC. Either town is hiker friendly.

Surprisingly empty the shelters, the hostels not many people doing the trail this year.

Really nice-looking hostel. Off to new territory now.
