Yes its a light tent and I know as I have the Duplex. I find this tent fills with condensation and the bottom of my Quilt would get wet from touching the single wall layer. I also find this tent cold as the door doesn't really close to the bottom. In order to reduce condensation I would have one entrance way open. I am selling the Zpacks and now have a double wall where the floor and outside is Dyneema and the inside is screen or mesh. Tarptent has the Notch Li and its fantastic so far. My quilt is dry and it's warmer in the tent. I highly recommend anything Henry Shires from Tarptent designs. No I am Canadian and am not being sponsored or work for them and I'm from Vancouver. I know a good tent when I use one.The Altaplex would not at all be my thing. Sheila

Zip up your rain coat and stick your quilts foot box into it. Extra warm layer, and no condensation worries.

The huge gap between the vestibule door and the ground exactly puts me off from buying any zpacks tent. I tried free duo and it’s so drafty that I don’t it will prevent flying rain from coming in.
@natea1042
@natea1042 2 жыл бұрын
You can get the Zpacks pretty low by dropping your trekking poles and adjusting your stake points. I'm fairly certain most of the Justins decision behind buying the Altaplex was weight. Its ~100g lighter than a Notch Li and has significantly more floor space. The Notch also has one bothersome downside in that the struts limit it to being strapped to the outside of small packs like the Zerk40. Not sure I'd want to bushwhack with a DCF tent on my pack exterior. Other than that I do agree the Notch is a nicer tent in terms of construction. All tents will be bad with condensation in cold wet environments when completely closed. The Notch will just do a bit better in terms of what actually ends up on you. The one aspect to the Zpacks tents I cant really get over is they still havent refined the door zipper and the way it opens. They all open so they drop on the ground. $600+ US and you're trampling your door mesh because they're too lazy to change it to a T or L shaped door. Kind of boggles my mind.

@@JustinOutdoors that's right..the Scottish climbers acknowledged that.. and developed the Buffalo Systems approach to storms and wetness by having more breathable Pertex and furry fleece and driving the moisture outward thermally..the US military adopted the concept with their ECWCS system... I have both systems and really like both very much..

I guess new rain pants are on the Santa list for this coming Christmas. Question: why where those vehicles parked in side the fenced area?
@stevegoad4133
@stevegoad4133 2 жыл бұрын
The fence is to keep porcupines away from parked cars because they tend to chew on things like brake lines. This is probably the parking lot for a nearby mountain lodge.

To be selfish a moment, you really should hike this again. Even if it's in 1 or 2 sections a year. This little video diary has been really quite good but it's also evident there could be so much more. Plus a better camera resolution to do some of these sceneries more justice. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing these vids were longer and more detailed but I'm also sure you're getting pretty damn exhausted with such long days. I'm actually hoping we get a giant GDT Redux at the end of this making use of a bunch of un-used footage. Just a friendly request to consider. I've always been the same with regards to breakfast. It's probably psychological/nerves but I could never wake up and sit down to "the most important meal of the day". I'd just assume get some progress going.

Giant GDT video will be happening for sure! Probably with more of the b-roll footage I shot incorporated with music.
