LIVE COVERAGE: Robert Durst Testifies Live For The Murder of Friend Susan Berman
Robert Durst stands trial for the 2000 murder of friend Susan Berman. The trial began just before the pandemic in early 2020 and was halted two weeks in. The restart happened on May 17, 2021, with the same jury panel.
The defendant’s wife Kathleen McCormack Durst went missing in 1982. Evidence and testimony would show that Robert Durst killed her, the prosecutor said. The defendant allegedly told Berman it was an accident and asked her for help. She served as his alibi.
Berman, 55, was shot execution-style at her Beverly Hills home in 2000, and the prosecution suggested that it was because of what she knew about Kathleen’s death and disappearance. As defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin would have it, however, Durst is innocent. His client only came across the body, panicked, and fled, he maintained.

Imagine the logistical nightmare it must be to get ALL the witnesses to lie in their testimony’s, which happen to contradict Durst’s testimony . 🙄 Maybe Andrew Jarecki got everyone to lie to make this trial more exciting!! 😳

Did anyone follow up on his alibi to anything he said. Even in 1982 does police check alibis?

The only alibi he offered was that he was having drinks w/his neighbors. And yes the police checked on that & discovered it was a complete lie. No body homicide cases were not common in the early 80’s.

Durst is accused of murdering his ex-wife (I think) many years ago. The trial is not proceeding smoothly. Your best bet is to search for a news report covering the case.

If you can, watch a copy of "The Jinx," where he is being interviewed over a long period of time about the three deaths he is associated with. If you cannot find that, there was a fictional movie made about it called "All Good Things." Although it is fictional, Durst himself declared it pretty close to the truth.

You have two choices: 1. Everyone else has conspired to lie in order to convict Durst, knowing he is innocent; 2. Durst is the liar, and has confessed to lying. Use Occam's razor.

Mr. Lewin asking for the question to be repeated back to him helps everyone to get back on track in remembering what that original question was. Himself included yes. All Mr.Durst answers are twisted in a web of lies and sometimes doesn’t even make sense. It causes some people to get lost in what the point of the question actually is. Mr. Durst continues in trying to manipulate Mr. Lewin. Mr. Lewin has all the evidence to catch him in his lies and manipulation and he has to proves it before he even gets an answer. Every question takes an extremely long time due to this reason. Just my observation of his entire testimony.

@@joyciejd9673 The motive to kill his lifelong very best friend is because she helped him cover up in Kathy's case and was telling him police were asking her about it again. Without that motive, the case is not nearly as strong.

@@lindyhawthorne2164 impeachment is the process of attacking the accuracy of witness testimony. Examples of impeachment are when the prosecutor asks Durst a question, and Durst answers it but then that answer is compared to prior statements, answers or testimony Durst has given. When the answers differ, the credibility or truthfulness of Durst can be determined. In other words, if you can show that a witness lied, you are impeaching that testimony. I hope that was not too convoluted

Over the years he has strongly denied being in Shipbottom after Kathy disappeared, it's very sensitive for him so I think this is where Kathy ended up.

Also in the Jinx when confronted with this by Jarecki, he switches to 3rd person mode, "Bob didn't make those calls, Bob wasn't in Ship Bottom." He is truthful in that he doesn't want to think about dismembering his victims, so he disassociates when it comes up bu switching to 3rd person and viewing himself from a distance. I think he's torn. He is running away from the consequences so hard because if he had to confront his actions it would be too much to bear for him. In essence he believes his own BS and his money affords him the luxury of maintaining that fantasy for himself. A few times in this cross exam he's referred to himself in the 3rd person and I think it's definitely something to take note of.

I watched for about 30mins and got sick of this. He kept badgering him. And trying to trip him up. Why did he keep asking him to assume 😒 that he did or didn't do certain things? The judge also seems to keep responding to the defenses objections in a negative way...or is that just me??

You couldn’t make Mr.Durst life up. It involves the rich and just how evil money can make you. I also love Mr. Lewin. He catches Mr. Durst in every lie and is doing a great job in stopping Mr. Durst from trying to manipulate his answers and this court. Mr. Durst has finally met his match. This will definitely helps Mr. Lewin’s career. He doesn’t let anything stop him from getting his answers. If anything, I would stop watching because Mr.Durst is aggravating.

The point is, whether he is or is not on the spectrum, Durst himself said it has nothing to do with Kathy's disappearance. To continue to have Durst talk about that is a distraction and unduly influential on the jury.

The defense attorney intentionally let the prosecutor beat up the defendant with annoying questions. Durst gets the jury in his side now. The prosecutor is falling in the Durst trap and losing eventually.
