This is the third time I've watched this trial, and at this part I always have a vivid image in my mind of Chandler, sweating and sick with insomnia, dark rims beneath both eyes, wearing basketball shorts and nothing else, crouched over in that dark and red swelteringly hot room, poking and prodding at the fire and setting up fans while his mother and fathers heads are burning out of control in the fireplace, as his dog is curled up watching all of it nervously and scared.
@dazzlingextremes389 Жыл бұрын
I've said repeatedly I bet you when those fireworks went off those dogs were all the more terrified bc they had heard the shots and knew or saw him kill them and it triggered their anxiety. Horrible horrible evil human.

I’m watching it for the first time and same. It’s so disturbing. I can’t even imagine looking into the face of the parents who gave you life as their head burns and you chop the rest of them into pieces. Sickening that anyone can do this.

Chandler is such a genius. His neighborhood was full of retired cops. He really did think he was smarter than everyone.
@therealz360z710 ай бұрын
But he managed go through life at twenty three nobody noticed there's something about this guy that's off. That's pretty impressive he's probably the only disturbed family innialator that mutilated and burned his own parents and not one teacher or former girlfriend, roommate, neighbor noticed anything till after he does it then they say he was creepy nobody came forward beforehand not one.
@therealz360z710 ай бұрын
If he completed the cremation nobody would have thought to look in the family's fireplace if so it would have taken awhile and only if someone remembered the big bbq on the first. Someone might have thought he's buried them but if he completed that cremation then cleaned out the fireplace good the bodies would gave never been found. And that is pretty scary cause he failed so miserably your thinking he was to incompetent he was never even close to getting away with this ! Oh not so and then when he decided to eliminate Cat in ten years because she's finally outgrow him and tired out his b.s and wants him to get a job after she is working making decent money and he's the beneficiary of her life insurance policy that would tie him over for awhile while he's convincing a dr he has some fake illness so he can get disability benefits and on to his next prey!
@therealz360z710 ай бұрын
If he had finished cremating them he would have gotten away with it! He managed to reduce them to minus there heads, dad's legs and feet and arms and most of mom so it wouldn't have taken much more to reduce them to something he could put in a coffee can and dropped them off in a carwash garbage can or some other place .he was actually alot closer to getting away with this once you think about it that way!

Is it only me or did anyone else have an eerie feeling watching that flickering light! Those poor parents...RIP.
@lynneaiken16472 жыл бұрын
Yes..I sure did. Knowing what he was doing made me a little sick. Then when the fire grew larger, I wondered if he was putting an accelerant on the fire or another body part..and now we know that when a human body burns, it smells like pork..🤢. this boy is pure evil..no emotion whatsoever!!! I think he went to trial wondering in his mind, what all they actually found.. he thought he was sooo smart...but they have proved just the opposite. I also believe he had plans on killing his brother at a later time.. sending him a bullet of all things, to him while he was in the hospital..?? Glad he was arrested before he could hurt anyone else..this whole thing is heartbreaking!!💔

Just terrible. I had four children and just could not fathom this. I lost a child two years ago this weekend in an accident and mostly got interested because of the trial factor and having to go to trial with the truck driver who killed my son but watching that video was horrifying in what looked to me like him rusting around in the room and going back and forth. @gailtrotman52562 жыл бұрын
The "Flickering Window"detective's testimony is fascinating. The meticulous attention to detail gets better every time I watch it - 3 times now. I wrote down the key moments in the video during the process of the 4 hours when the fire was seen mainly in the fireplace window, but right from the beginning at 1218 am both the fireplace window and the tv window are lit up and at times the garage window light is as well. When the blaze dies down then blazes again, it is terrifying to think that is the time he is adding his parents' body parts to be incinerated. As the garage window remains on, this sequence begins at approx 1:14 am. Then the garage light is turned OFF. He did the ghastly dismembering in the garage, put the body parts in the fire, it blazed again and he goes back into the garage and then back into the fireplace room. You can follow his steps and trace each time he adds his parents' body parts by the flickering to raging fire that at times glows in every window close to the fireplace room. At 2:10 am the fire rages; it seems out of control. At 3:00 am the kitchen window, kitchen door,fireplace window and tv window are ALL ablaze from the power of the fire! Did he want to set the house on fire? The grand finale is at 4:15 am for just a brief minute. Mr. Lynch is the hero here for noticing the flickering fire in the windows on his security camera. I can't imagine being in that courtroom with this monster. Diabolical!

To be fair, their dysfunctional parenting is partly responsible. I would never want to see anyone murdered and of course they didn't deserve it, but it took many years for him to end up this way. He was coddled and catered to his whole life. This was not the first time he lied to them, but they made excuses. It is not healthy for children to think they can do no wrong and to not suffer the consequences of their actions in life. In addition, parents who baby their adult children like that are showing a lot about themselves. For his mom to say he made her day by waving goodbye to him speaks volumes. His reply? Buy me some soda in the way home. She knew what he was like, but was likely enmeshed and codependent. Unfortunately, the parents paid the ultimate price.

The judge said in his closing statement that this investigation and trial put Dane County on the map. He was right. I'm from Europe, a random true crime fan, having watched a host of trial videos (mostly I skip through large parts of them 🤫), and I'm subbed to a few true crime channels. Then of course I the Halderson case got covered by my favorites, and I began to be quite interested in the background of the murders - Chandler's character from a psychological point of view. (I'm a behavioral therapist by occupation) So one thing led to another, and I ended up watching the Halderson trial recently. Sounds strange, as this is a murder trial after all, but I must say I'm blown away. The judge, the prosecutor, the investigators, the expert witnesses, the structure of the trial and the presentation of evidence and witness testimonies, the whole thing in general - world class. I got so invested in all this that I googled the judge, the deputy D.A., the D.A. (saw his statement on Row v Wade❤), the County Sheriff, etc. What a diverse, competent, smart, knowledgeable group of people! Wisconsin (or, at least Madison Co) seems like an amazing, progressive part of America. (Another detail that shouldn't even be something that's worth mentioning, and yet unfortunately it is, that one of the local news channels' reporter was a lady wearing a hijab. You don't experience that in today's America too often.) Anyway, kudos to Madison DaneCo, WI 💜 You're definitely on the map

I already knew that Chandler had murdered his parents and dismembered them and burned parts of them in the fireplace but seeing this grisly proof of that action makes me think CH is nothing less than a monster or he could never have done that to ANYONE much less his own parents. I cannot imagine how disturbing some of these testimonies were to members of the Halderson family who were sitting in the courtroom listening to all of these horrifying details of the deaths of their loved ones. In her victim impact statement, his grandmother begged the judge to allow Chandler to apply for parole somewhere down the line, but Mitchell's fiancée said just the opposite in her VIS. She asked the judge to NEVER let him out because she said she would never feel safe if he were let out. I hope this difference in opinion does not cause an irreparable rift in the Halderson family. They need each other more now than they ever have before, and I hope they do not let the behavior of this one defective and EVIL human being tear their family apart. I pray they all join together even stronger and can find some peace and contentment in the future.

Wonder how his gaming friend from the military feels now knowing that he gave him that firearm as a gift. He even gave him an ammo box full of rounds too. I guess you could say that Chandler befriended him and knew what he was going to do once his lies were found out by his dad. For a 23 year old, Chandler always wanted people to do things for him to include his mom, girlfriend and others. Cat should have known something was wrong when he stated he was grounded; come on... Most still living at home with their parents in their 20s would come out and say they lied about something but Chandler wasn't mature enough to manage those come clean talks. He had to have other reasons for killing his parents or his IQ was minimal; maybe both.

This trial is so professional almost too good to be true. Everyone is so well prepared, respectful. The state and the defense are even cordial towards each other almost like we are working for justice here. I have watched so many trials as it’s almost like my guilty pleasure. I just love the law, especially when done correctly. This is almost perfect. Did not expect this in Wisconsin. I simply do not know enough about the state. My condolences to the families all affected due to the most heinous crime, they seems like great and loving parents. If I were a psychiatrist specializing in psychopathy, this would be the perfect case. I almost feel like this could not have been the first and only incident. In my humble opinion. He picked a vulnerable girl friend with self esteem or self value issues. Mexican ethnicity was a sense of shame. Chandler had no real friends to speak of but for the one online friend. Whose gift upon meeting in person for the first time was a rifle? There is no way he manipulated and lied his way through life unrecognized. His father was a CPA and his mother was a helicopter or doting mom. Parents know their children and denial was easier then taking action.

I can't figure out why he went through the trouble of burning up their heads! He still had their bodies to contend with. Wouldn't it have been less troublesome to go dig a hole someplace in the woods and bury their heads? In any case, I think he had somewhat of a plan ever since he was given the weapon and was giving his girlfriend the impression that she was not welcome without express permission from his parents. He was setting her up as his timeline alibi. I'm watching this a year after the ruling so there's much I may have missed.

Someone mentioned in chat how disengaged Chandler and his lawyers are. Joel Guy jr had a similar non-existing defense but he did communicate politely with his lawyers and a few times was whispering with them and telling them what to ask or not like when they cross-examined his roommate/boyfriend. Now Chandler seems to have zero communication with his counsel. He does seem to follow proceedings closely albeit stoically though. And seems to note stuff. Maybe they asked him to write down anything he deemed to be important. I remember Grant Amato seemed to often be scribbling or drawing stuff randomly inbetween. At least it looked like that. He will be convicted, he'll file an appeal like everyone does, it won't get overturned, and he'll still be appealing it when he's 80. But this case has the best chance I've seen in years of an appeal succeeding, leading to a new trial. Not because of his council, they're still on cross-examination so we haven't even seen them present their case yet. But Chandler testing positive for Covid means he can claim he unable to focus. If he can't aid in his own defense, or focus on what's happening, the trial should not be happening.
