Ecossaise in E flat is probably the most difficult piece I've played so far. It really has felt like a step up regarding how my hands are literally flying all over the place. When I started it I thought there was no way I would be able to play it, but it has come together nicely.
It was a good piece for learning and I've picked up some good practice methods that I will take forward into future pieces.
This recording is as good as I am going to get for now. It's a bit sloppy in places and that's probably due to the speed. I hadn't realised I was playing it quite this fast now. I recorded another slower version that was tighter but it lacked the energy, so I went with this one.

Ah. This resonates with me so much as a beginner. When I first practised this piece, I find it to be technically challenging, the learning gap is huge while transitioning from Grade2 pieces to Grade3 pieces. Kudos to you, you’re doing great!

Thanks William. How long ago did you work on this one? What are you working on now?

@@DanielLearnsPiano it took me 3 weeks to a month, still isn’t as smooth as yours and this video is absolutely encouraging. Have been physically away from piano for few months but when I reunite with my piano next week I plan to work on this piece again!

@@williamng5031 I’ve spent over 10 hours on this piece. That’s just the time that is logged while I have the score open in my app. I played this piece quite often without the app as well just in passing the piano. Then it took 28 attempts to get this recording. I’m planning to make a little follow up to this about how I went about practicing this piece to with because it’s quite different to the other pieces I’ve played.

The hard work has paid off, well done. Your comment about a piece seeming insurmountable, but then later discovering you CAN play it, is the same thought process I go through with pieces.

Thanks. What got me over the hump with this piece was definitely the blocking I did early on. I’m going to make a follow up explaining what I did. (Hopefully)

Hi Daniel! When I was hesitating to purchase a piano and start learning, I searched what google thought about starting at 40 and it got me to your videos. 5 weeks in, progression is fast and exciting, the effort is hard, and I still like your videos. Thank you for sharing your progression, you are doing great! You showed me that it was possible to reach an honorable and enjoyable level in a realistic time (given practice and focus and, I suppose, it's like a hike: to each their own pace), thanks a lot, Daniel :) (I also like the way you are taking your learning very strategically, by regularly challenging yourself and investing in your skills for future projets)

Hi, thanks. That’s really great to hear. I can’t say there is anything strategic about my progress. I just let my teacher guide me and largely defer what I learn to her. Once I’m more proficient I’m sure I’ll start selecting the pieces I want to play. Keep at it!

Very nice. This is one of my picks. Will be getting around to doing some video's soon but still not quite ready for the exams. I am taking my time with grade 3.

It’s a fun piece, for sure. I’m not sure I’d want to play it for an exam though. I rarely get through it without messing it up somewhere.

@@DanielLearnsPiano Yeh it is a little tricky. I find my fingers being stretched apart after the first part playing those chords. This is just one part of a set of six I think. They all start with a different melody but finish the same as this one.

Very fun piece, nicely played ! 28 attempts ? That's quite fast, i often do more than that for recording :D

There’s no rush. I feel like I’m super slow. But I’m ok with that.
