Robert Durst stands trial for the 2000 murder of friend Susan Berman. The trial began just before the pandemic in early 2020 and was halted two weeks in. The restart happened on May 17, 2021, with the same jury panel.
The defendant’s wife Kathleen McCormack Durst went missing in 1982. Evidence and testimony would show that Robert Durst killed her, the prosecutor said. The defendant allegedly told Berman it was an accident and asked her for help. She served as his alibi.
Berman, 55, was shot execution-style at her Beverly Hills home in 2000, and the prosecution suggested that it was because of what she knew about Kathleen’s death and disappearance. As defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin would have it, however, Durst is innocent. His client only came across the body, panicked, and fled, he maintained.

It's insane how people watch this trial and come to conclusion about Durst based on their emotions. Before he's a "frail old man", he's a serial killer! You don't get a free pass because you got away with murder for 40 years and now trialled in your 70's. Every victim deserves justice regardless of the criminal's age! The law does not care about your feeling but about facts and evidence! That's the "lens" we should all be watching this trial!

Hmmm I guess his ex wife and friend would disagree,he's a killer,how many years has he left on this earth 5 maybe,he should tell the victim's families where their dead bodies are to give em closure but no,don't let his act fool you,he's a stone cold killer and he'd do the same again in a heartbeat,he reminds me of columbo,dithering and scruffy appearance but underneath he's sharper intellectually than most....

Why didn’t he take the plea deal? If he was willing to admit to killing Susan “and” Kathi in trade for say 15 years why wasn’t this talked about? It would have assured he never saw the light of day again and saved millions.

Lewin let him know what he needed to provide for a plea deal. Durst might have been willing, but his lawyers shut that down. He keeps claiming he was trying to make a plea, but there wouldn’t be one on the table without his FULL confession. His lawyers were gambling on getting him acquitted - again.

On top of Durst arrogantly giving interviews to the Prosecution, he made "hundreds of phone calls" on jail phones, all of which are recorded, meticulously analyzed, snd used against you. His attorneys must've warned him. There are warning signs on jail phones.

Durst did not followed the rule, "Never talk to the police." He could've had an attorney present. Bizarre guy. Could've let an attorney work a plea bargain. Thinks he's smarter than everyone?

At this point, this trial has raised the bar and set a new standard regarding annoyance. This has gone on for so long and become a circus of sorts. I wouldn't be surprised that in 10 years his corpse will be on the witness stand after the jury is forced to watch 30 days of video of this 2021 trial.

There is a very disturbing video of Durst urinating on a section of candy below the CVS checkout counter after paying for items. Very bizarre person. Diagnosed Aspergers as a adult, but schizophrenia as a youth.

He acts so frail, but at 5:45 he becomes very detailed, specific, bit of know-it-all braggart, betraying his frailty. The jury must have picked that up as inconsistent.

Chesnoff is right in that Lewin sounds incredulous most of the time. But frankly, I can’t fault him for it. Durst is laughably unbelievable.

These jurors won’t spend the time on trying to agree! They will go behind doors and quickly decide to make it a hung jury so they can get OUT!

You think this will be a hung jury?? Do you think someone has been paid to hang the jury?? Or how do you come to this conclusion?? Besides that they can not “quickly decide to make it a hung jury”. Especially after a trial of this considerable length, the judge will tell them to go back and continue to deliberate until a verdict is reached. The state has spent millions of dollars getting this case to trial and they don’t intend to do it all over again. The jury has no incentive to come back without a verdict. It’s not in anyone’s best interests. Unless you are assuming some corruption.

Every juror has a LEGAL obligation to deliberate according to the facts and evidence presented to them. To "quickly" reach a verdict without taking everything in consideration is criminal. I doubt they'd be foolish enough to do that! There's serious consequences for mocking the justice system.

Sometimes I worry that the jury will feel Lewin is too hard on a feeble old man in their eyes. They may not see through RD’s evil charade.

This trial is an absolute joke. Lewin has completely made a total disgrace of the judge and DA. I actually hope he has annoyed the jury so bad they come back in 5 min with not guilty.

It is absolutely criminal that Durst has been able to walk around living his life and killing 2 additional people after killing Kathie. Lewin is doing an amazing job considering we are talking about 4 decades of evidence and 3 murders. If they had done their jobs and prosecuted him in 1982 as they should have we wouldn’t be sitting here today. The only reason it has been so long and drawn out is because Durst the narcissist is a contrarian and a pathological liar so Lewin has to go through everything. If he answered truthfully and didn’t put on this old man show (I have to read every question on my screen (to buy himself some time to think up a new lie)) we would have been done weeks ago!! Years ago if he hadn’t held up the process so long from the very beginning!! Lewin deserves a medal for his extraordinary attention to detail and patience for this defendant and the incompetent opposing counsel!

@@wordsleuth992 The DA doesn't have to go through EVERYTHING ad nauseum to prove Durst is a liar. It makes him look like a bully. I understand it's decades of information and that Durst is likely a sociopathic killer but fighting fire with fire is ineffective. It needs to be streamlined to have impact for the jury. Plus, proving he is a liar doesn't mean he's a killer. Not having any physical evidence is a problem in terms of beyond a reasonable doubt. (Also, I'm not defending Durst but the judicial process).

@@wordsleuth992 The only reason Durst is on trial now is because the LAPD were forced to do something when it was discovered that the last episode of The Jinx might have incriminating evidence (the handwritten envelope and the open Mic). The cops didn't want to arrest him because they knew they didn't have the evidence to convict him of killing Susan! If they did, they would have arrested him years ago! But if they didn't do something (because of the Jinx) then they look bad so...now you have Lewin scraping for anything he can use to discredit Durst, but he has scant proof of guilt. If the jury does their job properly, Durst will walk.
