This is how my large family does laundry. -Everyone is assigned their own day. -Everyone has their own basket. We do not mix with other peoples laundry! -On the assigned day the person washes their clothes and bedding/towel. We do not sort the clothes by color or anything. -Start at breakfast, switch at lunch (and start bedding/towel), fold and put away at dinner time (switch bedding/towel to dryer) bedding is done and put on when it’s time to start bedtime routine. Kitchen towels and throw blankets just go in as needed with whoever’s day it is! Hope this helps

Love seeing the images covered with the Passiontide veils! Purple ended up being our wedding color, and my grandmother made us napkins for our wedding party during the wedding meal. These have been the best passiontide veils for our home for almost 10 years now!

Laundry! This used to be a huge issue for me and we finally worked out a system that functions for our large/homesteading/homeschool family. I have 5 kids and one on the way. We used to do the one load a day and I remember the point where it stopped working and the overwhelm that came with it as well. Not only do I have messy farm clothes as a constant but my husband also works a manual labor job that generates a lot of dirty clothes and because he works outside year round, he wears a lot of layers. Add to it the kitchen towels, milking rags, regular towels, cloth diapers when I feel up for it and its just a lot! What was a game changer for us was a family closet of sorts. We don't actually have space to devote to a family closet in our little 1100 sq ft house but next to the washer and dryer in the basement my husband built a shelf and each child has 2 bins. One for pants and shirts and one for underwear and pajamas. We don't fold any laundry anymore, its just stuck in the bins and since they're mostly play/farm clothes anyways it really doesn't matter if there are a few wrinkles (though they surprisingly aren't that bad!). My husband has 4 bins- shirts, pants, long underwear/sweatshirts and socks/underwear. My clothes are hung on a small rod along with the kids few "nice" outfits that would be like special occasions/ church clothes. Everyone has about 4/5 regular clothing options and 2 nice options. I also have one basket for upstairs things (towels, the 1 and 3 year olds clothes since I like those to be on the main level, etc). Each morning i have one child in charge of the first load of laundry. Their job is to switch any laundry in the washer to the dryer, start a new load of clothes and put away any baskets that are sitting and waiting. Because they don't have to fold, this isn't a huge task and my 7, 9, and 11 year olds all have times where they are in charge of this. I use powder laundry soap because it is easy for them to scoop when starting a load. Then after lunch it is another childs chore to go down and switch loads, put away anything dry and start a load if there is enough to do so. At night my husband and I will often start another load if needed and any ready to be folded loads will sit in a basket for the morning child to put away. Often my husband and I are starting the diaper or towel loads. I wash all clothing and bath towels together without sorting but kitchen and cow rags get bleached so the adults handle starting those loads. Then once or twice a week I'll bring the "upstairs basket" up and put those items away. Laundry is always caught up within maybe a 1 load buffer and even when I was down and out with morning sickness things stayed on track which is how I knew we had "arrived" for this season. Another amazing upgrade is that my husband cut in a laundry shoot from our main floor that drops clothes right near the washer. Its so convenient but this system still worked before we had it. We just had a single laundry basket in the hallway before and when it was each childs chore time they brought the basket downstairs. I hope this all makes sense typed out. It would be so much easier to show you haha, but maybe something in this set up will help you get a new system on track. I love your videos, I can relate to them so much and I hope the channel continues to grow!!

Thank you so much for all the tips, I really appreciate it. This sounds exactly like our scenario including the work clothes from your husband (my husband works in trades too and his laundry is so bulky with multiple layers). I’m for sure going to give this a shot!

You asked for suggestions about the abundance of laundry……I had six children and I had a basket for each child in which I’d toss in their clean clothes and the older ones had to fold theirs and put them away…….every time the did a siblings basket because they were younger they’d earn a star…..six stars they could pick their movie choice, more stars then it would be a game they wanted to play, or cookies we’d make, saving a lot of stars it would be something special such as art supply item or an item for their hobby. If I needed help with premade meals so I’d have more time…before bed I’d get a casserole prepped for breakfast or sheet pan pancakes, overnite oatmeal, smoothies in a jar for each, a container or eggs beaten and ingredients ready for an omelet . Pre cooking bacon, sausage or hamburger and portioning it out for the week saved time…..making bread with fillings rolled into it makes fast lunches with a side of fruit. One glass with a colored band marking their container to use all day saves dish chores. Precut veggies for snacks and recipes. Instead of one recipe I double and freeze the extra for another meal. Swirl jam into peanut butter which makes less mess and the older siblings can make Sammie’s for lunch…. Check out Three Rivers Homestead that has many she cooks for and how she makes out her plan for the week on Sunday.

You are a wonderful mother and wife, such a hardworker. Im a momma to 8 , my youngest is 7. For laundry I only wash 6 peoples clothing at this point older children do their own washing now. The biggest game changer throughout the years was to keep decreasing their items of clothing , so each person has only 7- 10 complete outfits and we use a family closet for the youngest so that all clothing is staying in one room dirty and clean. I have also heard other tips that I do not use but could be helpful for you , like no longer folding and everyone has a clean bin labeled and you just throw their clothes in . Seasons change so quickly in life you are doing great!

I do 1 or 2 loads a day. I wash, dry, and sort. My kids help me fold and everyone puts their own clothes away. The kids also put away rags and towels. My laundry hamper is my washer. I wash a load every night and toss it in the dryer first thing in the morning. If I have another load, or it’s sheet day, I start another kid. Same for dishes. Dishwasher gets started after dinner and I put away in the morning. Floors also get sept every night before bed. If I do this Bedford bed, I have a jump start to the next day.

Hi Justine, are you traditional Catholics? Do you prefer the 1962 daily missal? Is it in English and Latin? Im looking for a missal but most are N/O and since we don’t have the Latin mass here I was thinking the latest edition daily misssal but I do appreciate tradition! Thank you!!

Yes I do attend an FSSP parish which follows the Latin mass. This is the missal I use angeluspress.org/products/1962-roman-catholic-daily-missal but they also have N/O missals.

It’s definitely their ages. As they get older they will naturally start being more interested in spending time doing their own things. My little ones who are 2 and 7 months old are still with me all the time. I try to set them up with activities but mostly I get them to help me with whatever I’m doing. It does slow me down but I try to remember that these days will pass and eventually they won’t want to be with me all day long. You are in the hardest season of motherhood with all little ones, I promise you it does get easier ☺️
