My submission to the L'Oreal summer intern blog: / loreal-interns -- a fun creative side project while working on my official summer prompt. While maybe not the best-timed upload, I'm sharing this as a resource for those interested in the internship in the upcoming summers.

Q: How did you get this internship?
A: L'Oreal actively recruits on campus @ Cornell so I applied through Handshake (our internship/job platform) and went through two rounds of interviews.

Q: Interview tips?
A: Do as much research about the internship and company culture as possible. You can do this through online research and by reaching out to people on LinkedIn (try to find any school alumni through your network). For the interview, prepare answers for the basic behavioral questions and look on Glassdoor for examples/advice. Be prepared with a pitch and story as to why you want to work at L'Oreal and why you're passionate about the industry. Be sure to use the STAR format to incorporate your experiences in your answers.

Q: When can I apply?
A: Check back frequently on the L'Oreal careers/summer internship page to see when applications open. I believe it is around September/October and they go through the process on a ROLLING basis so the sooner you apply the better.

Great to hear! In terms of the interview, I would check glassdoor for tips/questions - it's super helpful and also reach out to people on LinkedIn for career conversations/advice. You might hear this a lot but prepare for basic behavioral questions and definitely know your resume and have stories to tell in the STAR format. Overall, the interview process was pretty chill compared to other experiences I've had! If you're looking to apply for 2021, the applications just opened.

hey! exciting 😊 wish you the best of luck during your process. Unfortunately I don’t have enough experience to answer that question especially because the school I went to most people stuck to the traditional resume format (that being said, most people were going into finance/consulting). I imagine the content of the resume matters the most so I don’t think you could go wrong either way! If it helps, I used a traditional resume format as well.

Madison Buatte thanks Madison!! The office is beautiful 😊. I am actually working there full time now and this video is from summer 2019 so I was not affected by the pandemic - just a late post.

I tried emailing them recently to see the progress on my internship a week ago but they still haven’t gotten back to me. I made it passed the follow up questions but I’m just waiting to see if I can get an interview now. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE an internship like this, but it’s so hard just to get them to look at you. I only go to San Diego State. It’s not exactly Cornell :/

Wishing you the best in the application process! While school might help in terms of the target schools that L’Oreal goes to for on-campus recruiting, it is definitely not the end all be all. Do not be discouraged - I just happened to go to Cornell but what will help you stand out is your experience/passion!

Hi Narhee! My name is Anna Vonderhaar! I’m a marketing student at the University of Iowa and I am heavily interested in this position and have been doing some research for the last week! I was wondering at what point in your schooling did you have this internship! Was it between your junior and senior year? is that the typical time undergraduates apply for this position? Thanks for watching 🥰 Yes this was between my junior and senior year - L’Oreal offers junior summer internships because like many companies they look to hire/offer return offers to rising seniors. I believe the application should be open by October, if not earlier. You can find it on their jobs website when the time comes!

@@rahuldas6777 no worries, I think I waited a month in between my first and second round interview! If it has passed the amount of time HR said it would take for them to get back to you, feel free to follow up with them! (I'm pretty sure I had to follow up twice)

unfortunately no free food :( I was the only intern on my team because they spread out all the interns but in a given intern class they usually take ~50% back

hi! It shouldn’t be too late, they probably have just started with their interview process. I applied when on-campus recruitment was happening and I believe that was early-mid October! You can find the application on their careers site.

Hey! First of all, congrats! Not sure what your first interview was like but I imagine it will be quite similar. Just be prepared with the common behavioral questions and answer them in the STAR format (situation, task, answer, result). Be sure to know your resume and have stories to share from those experiences! My second round was very chill so I wouldn’t worry too much 😊 best of luck!!

Hi! Hm, are you asking specifically for the internship? Either way, I think the best tip I have is to reach out to people through LinkedIn to get insight into the company and bring that information to your interview. In terms of getting stuck earlier, I would work on making sure your resume has relevant experience and key qualities that the job/internship requires

hi Esther! I recommend doing as much research about the internship as possible and reaching out to any school alumni that may be working there already for advice. Look on Glassdoor for example interview questions and be sure to have a good pitch/story as to why you want to intern/work there. Thank you so much! I am not too sure about the other countries part, I believe it might be available only for those who are legally authorized to work in the US. I would check the website/job description to make sure. Even if you aren’t in the US, there might be a L’Oreal in the country you live in which case you could apply to a program there 😊. Making friends was quite easy! To be honest, most of the day was busy with work but we had intern pod rooms and I got closer to those I saw on a daily basis.

great question! not at all! while MBAs may be necessary/helpful for more executive roles, there are plenty of opportunities that don’t require MBAs.

Is marketing job good career?

Marketing is a great career, but I think how people define “good” is pretty subjective 😊 and everyone will give you different answers. As long as you’re passionate about what you do, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be good for you! Every company needs some aspect of marketing so I would say there are a lot of opportunities & roads for growth out there.
