Worked on this exact press for years in the 1980's. I miss those days and the people. Every part of that machine was a hands on experience.

You web guys are a different breed. I can't imagine setting keys manually on a press that's running that fast. Lots of waste.

One of the first presses I worked on was almost exactly like this. Had some interesting times on that old Goss. I believe it's still in operation nearly 30 years later.

I run a 4 color Didde ML offset web press, It's mostly manual but I have a control panel where i can control the register in each unit, I got 3 weeks of training and was thrown on night shift by myself, I print rolls of advertisements on thermal receipt paper which then goes through a slitting machine to cut it to customer specs....it's a fun job but it's quite challenging learning it on my own....luckily there's all sorts of information and troubleshooting guides on the interwebs...

I run an old early 70s goss community, my father owns the paper (its the family business) so when the lead pressman retired i had to take his place, almost run it for a year now, started when i had just turned 15

Started on a goss metro. Then the plant brought a community over and started to learn how to run that. What a nice little press, couldn’t web it up but I could still set ink.

I’m from Australia and I print on the same Goss machines as well as the Goss Community 4 high colour CMYK, love these machines and everything you’ve said in this video is 100% true from listening and all about the feel! I wonder if this bloke is still in the printing industry?

Exactly! Too many people think you can teach every aspect of it. You can't. We can show you how to core the rolls up, web up, dip ink, put the plates on, and a few other things, but the rest of it is all run time experience. Been on a 5 unit King web for 18 years. Took over lead when the guy ahead of me retired a couple years ago. Best and only job I've had.

I started in 76 right after lead. And it was very rewarding after 40 years.

O work with a giss urbanites press at The Alexandria Gazette in Alexsndria Virginis and it was titled and error ir call it adjust by feel to get the inck and water right so that the printed newspaper had a good contrast . That involved flicking water in the water trays on to the roating printing plates to increase the water applied over the aluminum plates . People may have to rush to the output conveyor best to remove screwed up copies before the conveyor sent the papers to the lower floor circulation dept where the papers were bundled . So yes there was a lot of waste . On large jobs requiring multi hour runs of the press we would fill up a 8 cubic yard dumpster with spoiled newspapers

Lol...thats a cute little press. Goss Metro and Manroland Uniset are the way to go for bragging rights. But it is cute, careful not to break the little guy.

I work on a Heidelberg Sunday 2000 web press--a little more technology than this one, but still a fun machine to work on. It really is an art, and what this guy does is what makes a pressman a pressman.

Lol it's hard. Dude that's a simple yet beautiful machine. I'd kill to work on a mechanical press again. It's way easier if you know the craft
