Thanks for the video! Would love to hear your anecdotal insights/thoughts on the current job market for entry level data analysts. Seems like a very popular destination for people transitioning from other careers (myself included), and I've heard a lot of mixed things. Thanks again!
@agathakang
@agathakang 9 ай бұрын
The job market is tough right now for pretty much any industry but if you're considering a career change into data I say it's definitely worth it. There are many ways to make yourself stand out even in a tough market for entry level data analyst roles. For example, if you are transitioning from a different career, you may have soft skills such as communication and problem solving that you can highlight on your resume. Data analysis is more than just the technical skills and a skill worth learning that is very transferable to other career paths as well. My recommendation is if you're interested, start learning and invest in skills that will make you marketable. Hope this helps!

I'm about to go for my first interview ever for a Tech job, and it's for a entry level data analyst job, on the 7th. I completed a technical assessment already, it was just a set of tasks to do, mainly SQL and just 3 Visualizations. Now what should I do to prepare for the interview and since I did the assessment at home, what could they probably come at me with especially since I have no experience and they want a Junior data analyst with 0-1 year experience. Great video! And your advice would be highly appreciated, all the way from South Africa ❤🎉
@agathakang
@agathakang 9 ай бұрын
Congrats on the interview and completing the tech assessment! Next, they will be looking to ask questions about your analytical and soft skills. Have some data projects on hand that you can use as examples to show your ability to clean data, work with different datasets, communicate technical concepts to a nontechnical audience are all good skills to highlight. As a junior data analyst, you may have no work experience but even some projects you've done on your own while studying would help here. They may even give you a case study like "how would you measure the performance of the company" and this is where you can talk about your ability to align with different stakeholders to define metrics and bring insights through data. The fact that you got the interview and completed the tech assessment means you are already qualified! So just make sure you dedicate time the time to preparing and be confident! Hope the interview goes well!

A little bit about myself, I have been in Healthcare for the last 25 years on the caregiver's side of things, but would like to transition to the business side as an Analyst. The data analyst role will not go away but will be redefined as it's a career field that keeps up with the ever-changing technology. How do you like running a mac OS vs windows? Most software is pretty similar, I know excel is different regarding the functions and quick keys does that ever get in the way?
@agathakang
@agathakang 8 ай бұрын
Mac OS and Windows both work well for Data Analysis but personally Mac and Excel sucks lol the quick keys bothered me too but I don't use much of Excel anymore on the job. I mostly use SQL and cloud based tools so having a Mac OS has been easier for me to use as that's what I use on my personal computer as well

How I can make a portfolio? Example: if I do a project about homeless, cause, solution, why so many failed to fix. I know the answer and the solution for the crisis, but I want the data. So how I can get the data where I can find. Other projects I want to develop in tableau just to practice the tableau about housing crisis and another project about covid vaccines. I don't like the projects subjects but I need data to practice the tableau.

Hey! w3schools is a good place to start learning sql for free and practice. You can also go to kaggle for datasets and leetcode for practice sql questions. I learned sql by practicing so my recommendation is to not just watch tutorials but to practice writing to learn.

Hello from Canada, I was trying to get into the BIE at Amazon, but I don't even receive an interview. Can you share a bit your experience/insight on how can someone can prepare well for the BIE at Amazon?
@agathakang
@agathakang 9 ай бұрын
Hi there! For the BIE role at Amazon, you'll want to know advanced SQL (leetcode.com/studyplan/top-sql-50/) and a visualization tool (ex: Tableau, Power BI, or QuickSight). Depending on the team, some may require more Python and statistics as well. You'll also want to have strong examples of your work in your resume. This could be from job experience or your portfolio that you will leverage to showcase your data analysis skills like the ability to explain trends. When practicing for the interview, use the STAR technique (situation, task, action, result) focusing on the actions and results of your work. I plan to do another video with more tips but I hope these help you get started!
