So many people actually think that being a 'writer' is sitting alone all day and writing, whereas it's actually a lot more complicated than that 😅

Blue Bee Content you’ve got to be disciplined and thick skinned to write because there’s a ton of rejection in this business. But being published doesn’t make you a writer, writing and working hard at it makes you a writer.

@@KJPadgett So true! Even if you don't get published, as long as you work hard and actually write, then you're a writer!

Amen! People always comment things like: 'oh nice easy life for you then,' when they have actually no idea! Some times I roll my eyes and tell them 'some days I wish I could just have a regular 9-5'. And sometimes I do, but I'd never settle for too. Over active imagination and desperate need to write and what not! haha!

Not usually any different from that at all for at least ninety percent of the really successful writers I've known. I wish I could remember who said it, but I can't, but I remember one very, very successful writer who said "You need a room with a door, and you need the self-discipline to close that door and put up a big DO NOT INTERRUPT" sign. And mean it. I earn a living as a writer for almost thirty years, and while the location of my writing changed fairly often, the manner did not. I wrote five hours per day, five days per week, and nothing, NOTHING was allowed tyo interrupt those hours. Deadlines often forced me tyo write much longer hours, but the sit the heck alone and write, no interruptions allowed, did not change. Writers writer. It's just this simple. Thinking about writing is not writing. Reading is not writing. Watching TV is not writing. Can't think of what to write not only isn't writing, it's never, ever true. Only writing is writing, and writers write. There is a real thing called writers block. But any writer who says he or she has it is lying to themselves, and lying to everyone else. Real writer's block means you CAN:T WRITE ANYTHING. This includes posts online that tell others you can't write. You'll need professional help to get over the real thing. What so many writers call writer's block is just laziness. It's an excuse not to do the hard work. It almost always stems from a complete lack of self-discipline. Those who plant their rear ends in a chair at the same place and at the same time every day, who stay in that seat until the allotted hours are over, no matter what, and who don't allow interruptions, do not get "writer's block. It's not complicated at all. You sit down, and you write. You do not allow interruptions, and you stay there until the day's words are written. It's childishly simple. But only a tiny few who want to be writers can do it. So almost all of them fail.

1. This is a really well-done video. Thanks for posting. 2. Lately - because I've been writing a darker story - I've been listening to the score soundtrack to "Social Network." It's a phenomenal backdrop for writing. 3. I'm reading "Madam Bovary." I'm making my way through the classics. So far, so good! 4. Have you read Stephen King’s "It?" It's a fantastic read. Talk about amazing character development!

I am NOT exaggerating. I assure you, I promise and I swear you have LITERALLY the same personality as me. I felt so much connected to you and guess what!!!! I am subscribing to your channel. OMG... I never thought I could ever meet someone who is like me. Things you mentioned that made me astonished. 1. You drink coffee, I do first thing in the morning. 2. You let your house until it gets messy then you have a morning to clean it. 👋 Hello... same here. 3. You like reading. There is no day that went by in my life without reading something (from a book to a blog) 4. Your culture is all about tea. I come from Morocco and TEA is a must in the household. Like literally no argument. Tea (Atay) or people get offended if you don't offer them. 5. You listen to instrumental Disney music while working. I am grown a** woman and there's no day where I don't watch cartoons and yes, I listen to Disney music occasionally. 6. You hate révisions. I can pick dog's poop in the street to avoid doing any proofread. 7. You have a dog and talk to him in a humor human way. I do the same to my kitties. 8. Barnes and nobles.... excuse me, did someone mention my favorite place on earth? 9. You are a writer.... DUUUUH... What am I? 10. Horror movies.... girl, we're on the same page. I recommend you watching The autopsy of Jane Doe. Many loves, blessings and thanks to you!!!

I have an important question. I have always wanted to be a writer. I have always wrote or typed little stories growing up and I still do so. I never publish them unless they are on Wattpad. So asking this question will help prepare me for the future. I really want to go to college, UCA to be exact. Can you go to College to be a writer. I am asking because this question never really pops up anywhere.

Hi! I hope it's not too late for my reply. Just read this comment today. In terms of writing book, being in college will train you how to do structured thinking. It will also train your critical thinking. The skill will help you write non-fiction book, scientific articles, etc. But, if you want try to write fiction book, personally I think it's better to read classics or another fiction. Also, it's always a great idea to join communities such as Wattpad. If you want to write screenplay, formal reports, etc. It's a good idea to take courses, rather than college.

I also want to be a writer, so I shifted to being an English major. Other majors require lots of writing too but I like the idea of knowing the do's and don't's, doing technical and creative writing, etc.
@KJPadgett

This is an old comment so you are probably already in school 😆 but for anyone else who wants to know, there are options for writers in college. I considered majoring in English and minoring in creative writing. That way I would have other options like publishing or teaching to fall back on. Some people go all in on creative writing, and that’s fine too! When you get to college, talk to a counselor there about the best options for you. And good luck!

How important is it for a writer to read? Does your work get better or worse if you don't read? And one for you specifically, are you a slow or fast reader> you said earlier in the vid you was a slow writer, is this the same for reading?

I did get full 620 points out of 620 points on my big state test in the writing section which is really boosting me( and that my advanced ELA teacher told me my final personal piece was really good for a seventh grader I got 35/30 on it!). I adore writing a lotttt, but I have other hobbies too. I really need some advice!

Jason Gomez I actually just bought the entire throne of glass series and I’m on the second one. I love her writing so much. Lately I’ve been reading a lot more than writing because I’m in the middle of a big move and my focus is one track lol. So right now I’m reading a lot more than writing. When I get focused on writing a book tho I stop reading as ravenously. I think the best advice I can give you about getting on a writing schedule is to not pressure yourself too much. If you do that then you make it a boring job instead of a passion. I usually try to write for an hour a day when I get free time. But if I don’t feel like it, that’s okay. I usually make up for it by writing for hours another day in the week. 😁 Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
