Breaking The Cycle

4 жыл бұрын

Hello everyone! I'm bringing you another video today to see how the real life of a person that works in a cubicle is. I try showing you what i go through on a daily basis from my commute (walking and taking the bus) door to door to when i come home. I am honestly always busy and I always have work to do, that is why i rarely ever get up form my seat. I actually have a standing desk to help relieve some pain from my back from sitting all the time. It was super early in the morning this day, so thats why its so dark. Day in the life of an accountant is not the most exciting as you can tell, but where I work they try to make us feel a bit better when busy season comes.
Hope you all like the video! Remember to like, comment and subscribe! :D

Thanks for the video. I'm currently preparing to start working as an accountant in NYC, so your video was helpful. I like the cubicle, it looks peaceful and quiet, which I don't mind. Are most accounting environment in NYC structure like yours with cubicles? Also, I notice you were dressed very casual. Does most accounting office environment in NYC allow their employees to dress casually for work or is your work place one of few exceptions to the rest?
@BreakingTheCycle
@BreakingTheCycle 4 жыл бұрын
Striker Hey congrats on your new journey! I believe most accounting firms have cubicles for the most part unless they have whats called an “open/modern floor plan”. The clothing is totally up to the firm that you work for, it was a Friday when i filmed this video, and in some cases we are allowed to be a bit casual. I don’t know about other NYC firms but I have heard some are starting to allow their employees to dress casual on Fridays, but please confirm that with your future firm. Wishing you best of luck!

Thank you Mr Rivera for making this video. I'm currently in my foundation year at university, I am tied in between choosing Marketing or Accounting and Finance for my degree. I like accounting as it has great job security and it is a valuable skill to have in life in general. However I also like Marketing because of the wide range of industries and consumers I can connect with. Marketing also involves people skills which I am proficient in as I am an outgoing person. Despite this Marketing does not have the credentials as accounting does and therefore less job security. Can you please say your thoughts on the 2 if possible. Thank you so much! I wish the best for you and your family :)
@BreakingTheCycle

Velóx hey! Thank you for your support! As to which one you should choose or look into is definitely up to you. Accounting is an extremely demanding job to be honest and i cant really say how it is for marketing. I do remember one of my classmates whom majored in marketing and is mow working for Google, so just from there it seems like a nice career lol. What i would suggest is taking intro accounting (usually financial accounting) and also take an intro to marketing course. I remember my intro to marketing class was phenomenal and really interesting. You can also look into intrnational marketing so you can travel the world and focus on many industries world wide. While in accounting you’ll definitely be doing a lot of what seems repetitive work and not so much fun. You definitely have to take these courses so you can guide yourself into what you really like and what you can see yourself doing for another 15-20 years. Its a tough choice lol. Let me know if you need more advice ill try to help as much as i can. Last thought, marketing seems easier than accounting but accounting pays a lot more here in NY (i think)

Hey man I may be working at an accounting firm soon after I graduate, I only have the technical knowledge, but almost zero practical experience. The firm said if they hire me they're gonna put me on probation for 3 months, which I understand for sure. My question is any tips for starting out as somebody with only the book knowledge but no practical experience? I understand on probation I definitely gotta perform my best to get a chance of being officially hired. I'm just really scared because I don't know what they'll actually make me do. What kind of work did you initially do when you first started?
@BreakingTheCycle
@BreakingTheCycle 4 жыл бұрын
Jessica Lee hey! Trust me i was blind when i first came in as well, so you wont be the only one. Im hoping your firm will have a training, usually a week long of training on how to use the accounting software your company has. This software is for storing workpapers (client sends you an excel sheet with a bunch of numbers in it = workpaper). Make sure you take a lot of notes during the training, i was the only one who took extensive notes during my training and it proved to be my savior as i was named the better one of my recruiting class. You also have to put in the time. What i mean by this is make sure that if you don’t understand something, take your time to read it and read it and read it. Also, i found a mentor early on, a supervisor with 10+ years of experience, who was super chill and helped me LEARN a lot. I would suggest trying to find that person that you connect with and they can help you throughout your struggles. Also, ALWAYS look for work. This is also what made me stand out from my peers because i was always eager to work and learn. I also went out of my way to get feedback from my seniors and supervisors prior to my reviews to ensure i was meeting their expectations. When you go to a meeting always take your notepad/computer because you are always going to be told to do something and the last thing a manager/supervisor wants is to be asked a question on what they just told you to do. Make sure you LEARN accounting assertions. Make sure you know the basics like how to determine depreciation on fixed assets, what are additions to fixed assets. If someone tells you to do something and you dont know how to do it. Make sure you ask them how to do it (they wont always have time to explain but make sure you ask). ALWAYS COMMUNICATE (hey supervisor im 45% completed with this task, hey mr supervisor when do you want me to send this open items list, hey supervisor i am done with cash confirmations and ready for your review.... things like that). Make sure you know excel, pivot tables, vlookup. Know how to look at a general ledger. Hopegully these things will put you ahead. Just make sure you put in the time and always make yourself standout in a positive way. You got this!!! Also, start studying for your CPA ASAP!!!!!! Once you start working it gets a bit tough to work and study at the same time. Sorry for the long answer and hope it helps

Being in front of a desk for 13+ hours or do you like to be on the move seeing different patients (including nasty things you might see lol). Do you prefer doing all your work on a computer or physically diagnosing people and helping people with their problems. they are both challenging careers, nursing might have an advantage because you will always need nurses (my personal opinion) and in accounting, we’ll probably get to a point where we get easily replaced by computers (dont see this happening in the short term, but still). Hey just wanna ask, i'm already in my 2nd year of college and I think all standards the accountants use is all the same, GAAP, IFRS, IAS that? Does that mean I don't have to study again if I want to be an accountant in other countries?
@ashleywilliams6119
@ashleywilliams6119 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I am not the video creator, but I am a Canadian CPA who is now working in France as an internal auditor, so I have some insight. GAAP is typically local (US GAAP, Canadian GAAP, French GAAP, etc.) and it conforms to the requirements of each country. GAAP is typically a set of rules whereas IFRS is guidelines-based. For example, companies listed in the US stock exchange need to report under US GAAP. So there will be local differences depending on which country you end up in. As far as an accounting designation, I have found my Canadian CPA to be quite valuable in Europe since many of my coworkers are not designated. I haven’t needed to recertify under French GAAP to work here, but depending on the country I am auditing, I will research differences between IFRS and local GAAP. But it is not to the same level as what I needed for my designation, it’s usually just a quick Google search to see if there are any major differences. My Canadian CPA does not transfer to the French equivalent since I studied in English, but there are equivalencies depending on which country you are coming from. For example, Australian CPAs can transfer into a Canadian CPA, but you need to write and pass the CFE for that to happen. Hopefully this helps!

Hello! Thanks for the comment, CPA requirements differ in every state, for the most part you need to have at least 150 credits in order to be able to sit for any part of the CPA exam (there are 4 parts of the cpa exam). ACCA is an international association and i am not familiar with that, with internstional things google might be your best guide. As an accountant you want to be a cpa because it empowers you and allows you to move up in position. Hope that helps!

William Bill Singson the requirements depend on what position you are applying for and if they’re going into public accounting and autit or tax or so many other positions. Generally, if youre going for a staff accountant position at a public firm, just tell them that if possible they should try to master exce and take courses on it, it will help in the future. Also, assertions are big because thats how we determine certain risks and how complete our work. Also, make sure he is comfortable speaking with clients, this is big because this happens on an everyday basis through email and through the phone. Hope this helps a little!

Thats just the experience i had and a couple of other people that i know can say the same thing. Most of your learning will be done in college as you will be taking more advanced/ focused classes based on your major. What i would recommend, like i always tell everyone is get super familiar with excel, do some research on which area you want to study either audit or tax and then do more selective research as to learning the basics of the area you choose. I am wishing for the best in your future!!! Let me know if i missed anything from your question. Just remember public accounting is very time consuming lol i tell that to everyone.
