welcome everyone! today i have a day in the life follow me around vlog of my life as a student at the university of amsterdam! I am Dutch and am doing my masters in Biomedical Science in amsterdam, so I thought it would be fun to document what a typical day looks like. This is another episode in the series the dark academia diaries, where i try to combine study vlogs with reading vlogs and also some cozy lifestyle content. let me know if there's anything you would like to see in this series!

I just dropped out of school mainly because of my mental health but I’m still in love with dark academia which is kind of ironic but i just love the vibes and books and art and also studying even though i don’t do it anymore.

Dark academia is also about exploring the things you're interested in, so you can always just explore some topics in your own time, when you're feeling better :) And there are still libraries to go to, books to discover, museums to visit, languages to learn and classes to consider on edx and coursera! So it doesn't have to stop you from doing the things you love (after you take care of your mental health first, of course)

I just finished Piranesi last weekend and absolutely loved it! I hope you do too. I'm not a student anymore, but your vlogs bring such a cosy feeling of nostalgia. I wasn't organised at all during uni, was the annoying classmate who had to copy notes and had to learn directly from the book because more often than not I was even too lazy to even do that. 🙈 Seeing your vlogs makes me want to go back and do it right (even though I know I would just make the same mistakes all over again). I also studies Biomedical Sciences but your masters is soooo different from mine! It looks really difficult. Good luck!

In 2018 I spent three months in Amsterdam and it was just the best time of my life. Amsty is such a lovely and magical city and I miss it so much! Lovely vlog :)! I’m actually doing my masters in statistics and I still remember learning R for the first time a few years ago. It was definitely a struggle at first, but hang in there, it gets better and then it’s actually quite fun! Oh, and R for Data Science is definitely a book that helped me a lot in the beginning. You can access the chapters legally on the publisher website :)

Ooomg I feel the same way about hybrid education! I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it going in but I've found that the mix of face to face and online classes gives me enough variety while also saving me A LOT of time commuting to and from uni on the days I'm online! E.g. I can afford to wake up half an hour before an online class versus, say, 3 hours on the day I have to be on campus

Woah. Statistical methods for genomics + their R packages can be a bit of a pain. As a statistician that area is kind of a mess. So interesting though, and so much opportunity for making meaningful contributions. Wish I knew more about genetics as to fully appreciate bioinformatics. You really have to be a unicorn for that (mathematician-biologist hybrid).

Whenever I was in Netherlands I loved it because people are great and it looks super cool but the sky mostly in the evening looks really depressing with clouds mostly occupying the scene and cool air blowing with people mostly hurrying to apartments and empty streets

Dutch research universities are so intense... don't know how you manage to combine it with youtube. Queen. I am just emerging from a master thesis and internship... balance is so hard
