It's hard to get behind a build that has 10 min of screen time, and 5 of the 10 is an ad to win it. I think the supra brought so much to the channel cause we got to see the process! Even the 20 primer videos....

Honestly Derrick from VGG puts out an hour + long video every week and a million people watch it like a crack addict watches a jar boil. You've already said it. The Supra video series was gold. Those videos showing the body work in detail plus the engine and electrical in detail was the ticket. I still watch, but the smashing through giveaway builds thing is a turn off despite my loyalty. Your's was one of the first channels on KZfaq that I watched religiously and couldn't wait for the next episode 6-7 years ago. You have a talent that you can teach, and an audience that wants to learn. You didn't build this channel on short attention spans, you built it on enthusiasts.

@@wannabefunnymanyeah it was awesome but the supra build with always be the highlight of this channel. Plus don’t you see that full rebuilds of crashed or either screwed cars is the way. People nowadays are in to either exotics, jdm sports cars. Drifting or trucks. Mostly all vids are 45 plus mins long and the builds are always to the shells down or even body swaps etc. he Trevor needs to go back to that. He also needs to brings the drift car back in them vids where freaking awesome and let’s not forget how good Trevor actually was as a drifter.

You got away from car culture, car community, and car life and moved to a primary focus on giveaways to make money. Your channel's success came from the long-term builds and the goals you set of going to events with them. Drift events, drift weeks, drag races, drag weeks, car shows, etc. The cars you built to work on towards a goal built the connections with your audience, which brought the success you've been chasing since. If you need to keep doing giveaways because it's a financially viable model, I recommend moving them to the background or secondary focus, and putting more screen time/energy into what made your channel to start with. Set a goal for an event. Build a drift week car, build a sick week car, go back to events, reconnect with people rather than focusing on the next quick buck. Good luck!

I think it's key that Trevor's fans don't want him to be other big KZfaqrs. We want him to be distracted many projects goes into detail can't half ass stuff but can half cost stuff Trevor. We want to see builds that he enjoys doing and that we can learn from, not just stuff to try to make good titles or give away. It's hard though when costs are high! Just hoping the channel keeps succeeding.

I agree. I've been building cars over 40 years. I work mostly on older cars but I still enjoy almost any car content as long as it shows enthusiasm and dedication. Giveaways are probably good money but not inspiring. There are many channels that have these quick COTS bolt-on projects. I'd bet you will gain more viewers if you do bit different style projects. Building cars was your hobby. The Supra videos were about you to reaching your dream car! That desire is what touches the most of us who have the same disease. Show your passion. Show how it is done. Show how the result is enjoyed! It will inspire others to try and reach their car dreams.

28:40 Just saying I have been here since the Supra build and no matter how long or short the video is, I watch them all the way to the end. This video seems like the older content when you are slowing down and basically interacting with the viewers. I am a die hard fan of the channel and no matter what you do, you guys will always have my views. I also bought more than my fair share of merch for my wife, my son and of course me. And you guys always went the extra mile on most all orders, throwing in a motion auto license plate frame or even the M.A. green stickers. The problem now is that the cost of just plain living lately is soooo much higher than it was a few years ago. Your channel and business has improved sooooo very much over these years and I am just happy to watch your content no matter what it is.

Pick a format and stick with it. You keep changing it and not sticking with any of them long enough. You need consistency, and flawless planning for a build. Start to finish. Like the foxbody. Never finished it, missed the goal, and have never really gone back to it to finish it. Same with the Civic, the Evo, Godzilla Mustang, drift car. Jimmy Oakes has a great mix of how he does things. Completed purposeful builds with a story and an on going ending. Plus mixes in life blog stuff here and there with trips and learning. Cleetus started that way now he has a big team, but people watched for the story of the car, and the purpose, end result and continued results. He has used some of the same cars for years.

Personally I like to see the build progress. I’m not a fan of the “hey look what I paid my guys to build, now buy a t shirt” type you tuber videos.” There’s a fine line between that and watching the build come together. It’s cool to see a build come together, then have a payoff of it doing what it was built to do, then keep up with the process of making it better. Cletus is pretty good at that. It keeps people engaged. I watched every one of your Supra videos, even all 99 primer videos lol. I felt involved with that car, if that makes sense. Can’t speak for everyone else but I like this style of video.

There is a lot that has changed in 13 years, not just in your videos, but YT as a whole. Lots of your old videos were about the process vs the product (the finished car). I think a lot of what your older videos had that the new ones don't, is the process that viewers could relate to while working on their own projects. I don't blame you for all the giveaways, I have seen countless creators on YT fall back to other financial means to keep things a float. It definitely feels different seeing these cars get finished so quick to be given away, vs the cars you want to build for yourself. The giveaways are a product, all the other cars are a journey.

I've always appreciated your channel because you're one of the few guys that actually builds stuff yourself and you do what needs to be done to get the job completed. I obviously watch all the other usual channels that you're friends with, Adam, Jimmy, Grant, TJ, Sammit and a bunch of other similar channels because you guys all do similar content and you're likeable. My biggest concern lately has been the lack of anything to follow, you do a build on a car but you don't go into the detail on things any more it seems to get skipped over with a quick montage and then you move on to something else. It's hard to follow when there's lots of different projects going on. I fully appreciate that building cars isn't an overnight thing but at least following along on projects, even if it's just small things in greater detail. I really hope you can figure this one out and come back to where you used to be at the old shop when Dave used to come around and you two would argue about what you're working on or what he's working on but you making enjoyable content of documenting a build and going through the process including the failures or problems and overcoming that and then having this awesome car at the end of it. I wish you all the best Trevor, from a long term subscriber and genuine fan.

I know for me, just as an example. I was so EXCITED for the RSX build when you said it was going to be a simple clean build you could do yourself. Then you went off the rails went awd brought in specialists and fabricators and bought the best parts. I started watching because you were relatable. Doesn't feel that way anymore. Just give us you working on simple cars and build that take a few weeks or a month and the parts can be SOURCED not always have to be built. Most of us would prefer 350-500hp cars that could be driven anytime anywhere over 600+ cars you can't hardly drive.

I've been a viewer right before the Supra series and I really enjoyed your channel because I wanted to learn how to do more with my car. I really wanted to do an engine swap and have a project car that was never in someone elses hands for service. I've been successful at that with only trips to tuner and alignment. Last year I finally did just that and engine swapped my nb miata with a k24. I could've had the car running within 1 month (but complications not in my control came about) and it took 3 months. No big deal at this point and very good pace for a novice. Without sitting through your earlier videos and understanding the method of just trusting the process, I don't think I'd have had such quick success. Being a little older now, the car scene feels different, and its more challenging to find that same passion. At this point I'm really looking for those purpose built projects that are above what I can do with my wrenches. Either way I'm still checking in on one of my original hero's that encouraged me to tinker with success. No matter where the future goes, You've showed me a lot Trevor. Thank you.

Roughly 50:00 mark you kind of hit the nail on the head for why you're struggling. You scaled up and your return to scale is currently negative. If you sat in a college business class or economics class this is something they teach you. Two channels that come to mind as a successful and consistent model: Truck Master on the small scale and Boosted Boiz on the large scale. You've done good quality truck stuff in the past. He works out of his backyard garage and pumps out quality content bringing trucks back to life. People love seeing broken stuff get fixed. And Boostedboiz success has been a result of consistency over the past 7-8 years. The same vehicles constantly getting upgraded. Reliable and consistent upgrades. Again lots of broken stuff people can watch get fixed.

Brother, I’ve been subscribed to your channel for years, met you in person and loved how humble you are even in person! I feel that the biggest thing that’s hurting your views, is the incompletion of the projects at hand. The civic was a big one for you and lots of people have been asking for a revival, the evo wagon, the mustang with the Godzilla engine, the Datsun, the c-10 with the ameribarra , the Mercedes wagon diesel swap and many others. But you also have such talent at rebuilding, painting, reconstructing copart car that we love seeing. We love seeing you being hands on and teaching us new skills. I think that maybe simplifying and taking it back to the roots will bring back more of the og viewers. Either way you can count on me to continue watching. I would like to see you do a “trading up” series. Your skill set, addiction to marketplace and short attention span (mean that in a good way) would be perfect for it. Start with something under 5k and set a goal of one of your dream vehicles around 50-60k. One episode per vehicle from buying to repairs to selling/trading it off. There would be a ton of content with each vehicle, so it’d give you the longer videos and fit the one video a week format. I think people would continue watching regularly to see you progress towards the end goal.

I thought "wow, that's a cool car, i'll check the channel out" and I've been watching ever since, because of the "hanging around" video vibe. It was something different even from Adam's videos during that time. More of like a DIY vibe and learning perspective. I learned so much from those videos and it gave me confidence to work on my first car, even though at the time I've never touched anything on it/painted stuff. And now here I'm deep in the automotive rabbit hole, done entire interior swap from a never model and other things, hah. Big thanks to You Trev. :) btw. 19:36 clip gave me weird old shop flashback with that rack on the left and the s14 by the opened door.

+1 on going back to the basics. The mainstream content, “fake” energy, and giveaways really has made me just skip over the videos. Been a fan since the LS s14 days and still around because I know what kind of content you can make that first got me to this channel!

You were the first KZfaqr I really got into. And the first KZfaqr I bought merch from. After the Supra… everything went down hill. Idc about giveaways. But there’s no content going on like it used to be. The old s14 days were the golden days…

I know give away cars are money makers but I like the episodes with the cars you put your heart into. The ones meant to be given away and not too shabby by no means but you dont put the heart into since you can't keep it. People.can see the passion jimmy oaks has for all his s chassis and I believe it makes for better content

As a test for this channel you should go back to a long form build series. I do miss the video of taking a crashed vehicle and turning it back into something cool. Hell, I don't care about trucks but watching this process on some of the trucks you've built over the years has been interesting. I've been here when you were building the S14 and I look forward to what you will do in the future. It makes sense to do a long form vlog style video for the other channel but don't give up on this one. Good luck Trevor.

I think the natural progression is people trying to adapt and change the content to what you THINK people will want to see. But the reason people following your page is because you were doing what YOU wanted. I think that's the key. Make content and builds that YOU want, not what you think others want. That's what makes a channel unique and truly you vs all automotive KZfaq moving toward the same thing.

I hope you see this comment. I am 1 who found your channel when you just got the supra. I enjoyed the raw real style video you would put out. I got the chance to meet you at Sonoma Drift winter Jam in Cali. You asked what isit that i liked about the channel, i said the way you vlog and do your videos, the amount of info you give while working on a project, it wasn’t just a “heres a video of me on my project” but you gave important info threw the build, and it was relatable because of how long it actually takes to build a project car. These past years the content has been kinda flat, it doesn’t resemble the old you and the parts that are recorded for the video almost sounds like its rehearsed like a TV show. You are right on the money when you said that you lost the opportunity to do 3 to 5 videos on how you painted the Evo. It was definitely a missed opportunity on u showing new subscribers how to paint a car and older subscribers that have seen you paint a car before a new painters trick or just to refresh our memory on how to do so. Definitely hope you the best and can find your way back to the old style videos on starting a project, showing us every detail and info about it while recording it and actually finishing the project.

I feel like it’s hard to be competitive with most automotive KZfaqrs without an insane budget. Collabs would be great, maybe a budget build series to compete in some sort of racing with other KZfaqrs.

Me personally I like longer videos that keep me attached and entertained. No so much engaged but to where I can listen and not just watch the whole thing missing a clip. On your videos I feel we like when you love stuff you’re doing like Copart buys, funny entertainment rambling, almost day in the life so that we’re updated every video! We feel like we need connection and we’re there almost as a friend. I love your videos and I’ll never leave your channel🖤

as someone whos watched you since ur og shop, back when u painted cars without a booth, back when u actually worked on car, youve gotten lazy tbh, u dont do anything anymore but talk, i dont come here to listen to a grown man babble, i follow ur car channel to see YOU build cars and drift! you have shown so many people over the years that u can build a car on bare min budget and resources. youve shown people how to take a wrecked pos and turn it into a master piece, i sure hope u change the channel soon or ima have to be like the rest and find a new builder to watch which sucks cause like most of us we enjoy ur content when u actually make it, whatever happens in the next few months i wish you the best of luck man and i sure hope u actually go back to making videos on actual car builds!

The reason I subscribed was back when you went and 1j swapped LZ's s14 in 24hrs. I think the reason why I did that is because you seemed like a regular dude who loved wrenching and had the knowledge to do so. And the go get it attitude to learn how to do things that you've never done. For me I want that drive to just dive in and have the knowledge to go with it. Still would of never painted my motorcycle if it wasn't for thid channel. Oh and the giveways I actually like them. Gives us all the opportunity to actually meet you guys in person one day with a gift of a lifetime to top it off. But more so the meet part is sweet. Hoping for the best!!

I think you need to start a new channel and use this one for just the “building X car in X minutes” with a big badass add at the end to win the car. You’ve made solid points about KZfaq not recommending your videos and that’s not going to change any time soon. You’ll have 60k people that watch nearly everything no matter what you post. They’ll follow you. The other 550,000 subscribers are just bringing down your stats in the algorithm. Start over. We’ll follow you.

I was in a hurry once. I went to Les Schwab to mount and balance 2 tires on Sat. It was like $85. Never again. They also told me my 2500 2g Cummins needed such and such. Went to a local shop and they replaced 2 totally different components and truck was good.

I have been watching since 2017 and loved the content. I would really love to see a series of one build at a time and not random things every other video. Just one project at a time into detail. You are a wonderful mechanic and body guy and that’s what we are all here for. Everything has its ups and downs and you still have gas in the tank and a ton of support from you fans. Get back to the focused in detail videos and start getting more views and fans and start doing more merch and maybe selling products like jimmy sells link ecu. I just want more car content and less ransom stuff. And feel like you shouldn’t do as many giveaway cars because it gets watered down. Just my input because I want to see you succeed. Sending love and prayers to you and your beautiful family

Trevor defining a dule direction plan on his channels may be the way to go for him... Having the MA Ch. be a more condensed/edited down once a week version of what the Trevor-Jamison channels long form detailed storyboard covers will give people, "options" as long as they know what to expect from each one. Diversity seems essential to keep the bills paid these days as is evident in many professions however capturing peoples varying interest rates on social media is a real challenge. The amount of drive, time and effort it takes to pull this off is huge for everyone involved. Just the timing of a build's needs and purchasing parts VS actually getting them all in house on time for filming is a full-time job in itself which is why many "car enthusiast U-tubers" have 3-5 builds going at 1 time. You can't help but to feel like a circus juggler trying to keep more and more balls the clowns are tossing in the air going till it finally all collapses. Timing, Focus and concentration on your passion for a unique build is what got the Supra where it is I think because you covered both long and short versions and people of different attention spans can relate to your love for what you did.
