Embercrest there’s a clear difference here, black face has been used all through out early America history to make fun of African Americans. My thoughts are this, if you’re dressing up to honor, or because you respect the culture, or person, even if you just think the costumes are amazingly cool, I see nothing wrong with it, if you’re doing it to mock, or poke fun at, then absolutely not. If I wanted to dress up like Michael Jackson because I admire, & look up to him as a musician, what’s the problem there? Yes, I understand that MJ wasn’t exactly, “dark” complected, but you get it, or how about Michael Jordan? Let’s say I’m a huge fan of basketball & Jordan is my favorite, what is wrong with dressing up as someone you admire? I think a person’s intentions should be taken into consideration before labeling someone as a racist, or crying out, “cultural appropriation”...!!!!

The word “cultural appropriation” , is being thrown around way too often these days. Lighten up people, no one is making fun of Mexican culture, if anything, this seems like respect to me. I think it’s awesome that people from another culture can inspire people from a different culture. America is a melting pot of cultures, if you’re against it, then I suggest you only eat, & wear things from your country, while you’re at it, take your Japanese, German, or American made vehicles back & buy a vehicle strictly from Mexico. Cultural appropriation can be twisted to fit any narrative we see fit. As human beings, we might ought to look past petty shit like face paint, & dread locks, before we truly lose our way.

stephanny moreno it’s funny that your last name is Moreno, oddly enough my favorite band in the world is fronted by Chino Moreno, you may, or may not have heard of them, they’re just a little band known as “Deftones”. My point is, Chino is of Mexican descent, instead of accusing people of cultural appropriation, he chose to put on a yearly concert known as “Dia de los Deftones”, & share his culture with the coming together of many different bands, belonging to many different genres. Stephen Carpenter is the guitarist for Deftones, couldn’t be whiter, paints his face in the tradition of “dia de los muertos” honoring the culture.
