It is finally here! Follow ex Southern Pacific GS-4 Steam Locomotive 4449 on the first leg of her journey from Portland, Oregon to Havre, Montana! Watch the 11 car train in several shots over a period of 3 days, as it passes along the Colombia River, up into Northeastern Washington, through Idaho, into Montana over the famed Marias Pass, and down across the plains of northern Montana in this 10 minute video. This is the first youtube video that I narrated, so please be understanding if things aren't perfect.
DVD info: What? Another DVD? Well, sort of... I have recieved a few requests to have this on DVD. I was planning on making a longer DVD for personal use, which would be much more detailed, and would include all of my shots (this has less than half of my Daylight shots). If you would like a copy I am considering giving some outjust for the cost of shipping and the dvd and case. (So like.. $5 or so for the DVD and shipping costs). If this interests you, please send me a youtube private message. Thanks.
History: SP 4449 was built in May of 1941 by the Lima Locomotive Works as a GS-4 Northern type locomotive to pull Southern Pacific's fameous Daylight Passenger trains. 4449 runs at a boiler pressure of 300 psi, has 5,500 horsepower, and is capable of reaching speeds up to 110 M.P.H. In 1955, 4449 pulled her last passenger train. She was donated to the City of Portland, Oregon, where she sat in Oaks Park until 1974, when she was restored for the American Freedom Train (1975-1977). Today, 4449 is in her as-built appearance, just like she looked at the Lima Shops in 1941. 4449 is truly the most beautiful train in the world, a one of a kind American Legend. Visit 4449 in person, it is well worth the tip.
